Title: Made a quiver for my sons Birthday...
Post by: BowHuntingFool on January 29, 2009, 02:59:00 PM
Well last week on during the Wisconsin Bunny Romp my son Dominic really liked everyone's back quivers with the fur,  antler tips and all tricked out! With his birthday in 10 days I decided to jump in and try and make him a back quiver. I followed Rob's how to build along, pretty go how to by the way! Now this is my 1st stab at leather work so I took my time. I laced the quiver up a few times making sure everything fit right. I then took it all apart dyed and put the Montana Pitch Blend on and laced it all back up. I put the rabbit fur in but didn't glue it in yet, still trying to add some bling like antler tips or turkey spurs etc... but can't seem to find any on the net so far. I'm going to go shed hunting a few times in the next few days hoping to find a shed with a couple of points I can cut off and put some where on the quiver! I did leave the lace long so I can add some beads or something... any ideas???

That looks real good what weight of leather did you use? and what color is that die? That is cool..I am working on a few leather projects for the first time myself, I sure hope they turn out that good.

Thanks guys, I'm hoping the boy likes it!!!!!

Peachy sent ya a PM.

HH, its 8oz vegetable tan leather. I used Fiebings light brown dye, I just used the dabber that came with it and dabbed the dye on the leather in penny sized spots until it was covered. Then went back and darkened it in spots to give it a worn look. The Montana Pitch Blend darkened it a bit more to make it just the way I wanted it to!!!!

That's a fine quiver, your boy's gonna love it. That leather is sharp looking too. Someday he'll hand it down to his boy, who'll cherish it since "Grandpa" made it.
