Title: Experiences with poplar arrow shafting
Post by: Old York on January 28, 2009, 01:10:00 PM
I just built up some woodies from Poplar and I am very impressed with their strength & over-all performance. Anybody else out there try this materiel? Anybody know who sell raw poplar shafts? Thanks

I made some a few years back and was impressed.  Bought a few from Troy Breeding but he stopped making them.

Don't know where to send you now.

I've switched to Sitka Spruce, they are about the same weight and as tough as poplar.  Raptor Archery carries them.

I just buy poplar dowles from lowes.  I stand there with a postal scale and try to get 12 that weigh about the same.  Get some funny looks from people while taking every dowel out of the rack.  I get what i want and get a kick out of peoples reactions as well.  I love this stuff!!!

I have had very good results from Twig Archery.  The poplar shafts (and ramin) I have gotten from him are great and his price can't be beat.  They're my favorite!

I too have ordered some from John at Twig Archery.  Super great guy, great price and they seem to be virtually indestuctable compared to POC.  I did have to sand a couple down as they were just a bit over 11/32, but no problem really.
