what is the poundage of the bow with which you do most of your hunting with?
You don't have my category on there Clint. I'm a 45-55# guy.
I voted 50#-60# for both questions. Most of the bows(selfbows) I make for myself are about 55#@26". I use the same weight/bow for all hunting and target and 3D shooting.
sorry. 5# increments was to much typing. :o
45 and 50 lbs. on my recurves. I'd probably try to work into a 55-60lb bow if I ever got the chance to hunt elk seriously, but I just can't shoot many arrows with that kind of weight and maintain good form.
Most of my bows are from 45# - 53#. Nothing over 53#.
My recurve was always at 73lbs at 28". I loved It at that poundage but recently lost 12lbs In a years time. Upper limb trouble I believe. The 2nd question not near as much pounds are needed for bear as for elk. I voted 50 to 60 as the minimum but 40 to 45lbs will do just fine on a bear shooting a traditional bow.
About 53# is just right for me. Rev
When my new bow is shipped to me in October, my bow weights will be between 35-42 lbs.
BTW, since I don't hunt elk, I can't vote in the poll.
Most of our bow orders fall in the 45#-52# range.Although, I did have (2) 75#,and (1) 95# limb order last year. The heaviest order I have had was 105#@33".OUCH

id love to see that penetration good lord!!
105# @ 33", wow! What do you shoot out of that thing, rebar!!!!
61-2# is what I hunt with depending on the bow. I voted for a lighter weight for what I would shoot that game with but years ago I was told that NH required 60# to legally hunt moose with. I didn't want to limit what I could hunt. Now those 62ers shoot more easily than that 50# starter bow did when I began. I see no reason to drop weight now.
55 lbs. I used to shoot 60-63 lbs., but found I was so much more accurate just dropping a few pounds off that. And in the end, I think the added accuracy is the most important variable.
I voted in the low range 40-50#, I have 2 sets of limbs the light set is what I'm hunting with now 47#@27", the heavier set 57#@27" I'm working into. I hope to be able to shoot the heavier set as acurately as the lighter set by fall of 2009.
I have never hunted elk but hope to, I have shot a hog with the light set and was pleased with the penetration.
I would not be afraid to shoot a whitetail with the light set but would not use them for elk.

My whitetail bow is 58# Im bilding a hog and bear bow to 65# would like to shoot a 650 or 700 grain arrow for them..
#57 Lbs
I fall in the 50-55lb range. I can shoot all day in this range. I do have a 60lb longbow I love, but can only shoot good for a short while.
41-46#, all longbows.
I shoot everything with the same bow - 70# recurve. I have been shooting the same bow for 18 yrs. Before that I shot a 65# recurve for 17 yrs.
I have bows ranging from about 50 to 62 lbs. Most of my hunting is with the 62 pounder.

I don't hunt anything except deer, so I could not answer your question. I suggest that you divide up your poll.
:campfire:
All of my bows fall within the 47#'s to 54# range. Shot all 5 of my deer(3 last season and 2 this past one)with my Bob Lee HUNTER T/D, 49#'S @ 28"S. 165 fps and 31#'s K.E. :archer:
Most of the bow orders I get are between 45 and 55#. I occasionaly get an order for one in the 60s but not often. Bob
59/68lbs.Really like 60/63lbs.Want to work into 70+lbs some day.
61# @ my 29" draw from a longbow, would hunt anything in north america with this setup!mostly hunt deer and bear!
I asked the guy that orderd the 105# limbs what he was hunting? His reply, anything I want, squirrels, rabbits, deer, turkey. When I asked him how many arrows he roasts while squirrel hunting,he said A BUNCH!IM NOT GONNA SASS A MAN THAT HAS A 33" DRAW AND SHOOTS 105#!

AMEN :notworthy: :notworthy:
Well, I just got a 55# Timberhawk that feels like a toy, but before that all my bows were right at 63# at 29". You wouldn't think almost 10# would feel that different, but it sure does! Arrows seem just as fast too.
I don't hunt elk though unfortunately. I had to guess 50-60 on that.
63-67#
First yr of trad. hunting I used a 52# curve.Last 2 yrs Ive taken all my deer with 45-47# curve.
40 to 45
