Many folks have been asking about my new book “One withthe Wilderness” (Passions of a Solo Bowhunter). I should get them from hard cover this week, Jan. 29th. I'm taking credit card and check orders now at www.brothersofthebow.com (http://www.brothersofthebow.com) (TG sponsor). I plan to stamp, number, and autograph the first 100 copies. So there is still time to get one of those if you place your order. You can also e-mail me directly at [email protected] for additional information.
I hope to have them at Trad Bowhunters Expo. in Kalamazoo on Friday if they arrive in time, if not I will have them at Mich. Trad Bowhunters Banquet, Comptons, and United Bowhunters of Illinois. I may be at Wisconsin. Trad Archers banquet as well. The book is 334 pages hard cover with full color images throughout. Cost $30 + $7 S&H
There are three sections. In the first section I talk about gaining experience and confidence while hunting many game species in a solitary and group setting. Section 2 is about my “Solo Spirit”, and many wilderness hunts are shared. In section 3 I talk about some of the people and events that have inspired me. I will close with a portion of the press release.
One With The Wilderness (Passions of a Solo Bowhunter) is a 334 page hardcover keepsake. Join Mike on his adventures as he presents the nostalgic feel of the wilderness enriched with full color photographs throughout. Share in his journey toward self-reliance by hunting whitetails, mule deer, elk, moose, caribou, bear, coyotes, hogs, and nilgai. The solo spirit will stir your soul as you become part of the natural world of Alaska, the Rocky Mountains, and the Midwest. Experience the people and events which inspired the author to the realization that even in solitude, we are never truly alone.
Thank you for your interest, Mike

Sounds like a good read Mike. If you dont have them in time for Kzoo next week I will be sure to pick one up at the MTB Banquet.
-
I have a hunch, that my wife will order me one for my birthday...since I just took her over to the screen and showed her what I WANT, and HOW to get it! :D :D :D
I love surprises!
I hope there are instructions in there on how to carry two huge bucks at the same time.
Congrats Mike Mitten.
-
See you on Friday Mike! Can't wait for this one!
-
Mike,
If there was a way to put #99 aside for me, that's the one I want to be sure to buy...it will match my Paul Schafer print...
Guys--I've read most of this book already; I was fortunate to be able to do some of the proofreading for Mike. I read a LOT of hunting stuff and this is like nothing else I have ever digested. It is excellent; even the most serious and seasoned hunter will learn from it. It is hard to explain, but you can almost feel the hunts and the passion Mike has for the wild.
:clapper:

I've been waiting in anticipation for this one! Sent you an email, Mike.

Way to go Mike  :notworthy: .

Congrats on building a hunting biography that is book worthy. I'm sure it will be a classic.
-
Mike, thanks for update. I just ordered one and will look forward to reading it,
Rick

I too have had the privilege to read most of the draft manuscript of this book. Itss going to be very special for sure. Mike has a way with words. I'm proud to have been a little part of this and more proud to be his friend.
On a related note, I asked him about the font used on the front cover. Its called "Bleeding Cowboy." Thats cool enough, although I doubt we'll ever see a font named "Bleeding Cowgirl." Or "Bleeding Indian" for that matter! :>)
-
Just my kind of bowhunting book, and my birthday is coming up, so like Bonebuster I'll save my wife some trouble and order one now!
-
G'day Gene or Mike,
Could you work-out what the shipping price would be to Australia?
Thanks,
Ben

Mike I will pick one up at the UBI banquet, looks like a good read.

Mike,
Sent you an email...put me on the list. I'll be at Kzoo, so I'd like to pick it up there.

Thanks for all of the enthusiasm guys. I don’t know what else to say other than I tried my best. I hope to have the books very soon and quite possibly by this weekend, but every thing is out of my hands right now. Thanks, Mike
-
Get ready guys... you are in for a real treat with this book. Mike's personality is just the right combination of macho and romance of the hunt. But more importantly, he has the ability of putting it all into words we can all relate to. Mark my words... you're gonna love it. BW
-
Looks like a great book! Can't wait to read it.

Mike Mitten is one of the true great guys and outdoorsman! I have no doubt that this book is going to become a must for every hunters library!
Mike's writing is fantastic and I am excited to get my copy!
Peter
-
Absolutely Peter. Mike is one of those quiet guys who just manages to kill BIG stuff year after year. Since he's a modest guy, most people never hear of him or see pics.
If he were loud and boisterous like two brothers we know, he'd be a famous bowhunter!
-
Thank you all so much for your interest. There will be opportunities to get autographed copies, but I just wanted to make it special for the first 100 advanced orders.
I hear I’m still on track to have books in hand by Thursday, but we will do our best.
Even though I may hunt alone and wrote the manuscript alone. I needed a lot of help to make a book. Thanks to Steve Osminski , Gene and Barry, my kids, my daughter-in-law and niece for your help editing and typing. I would also really like to thank Matt Smith from James W. Smith printing for his co-publishing of the book as well as Nick Salter for help in cover design. These guys are both avid elk bowhunters, and after reading the book Matt ordered up a new Wes Wallace bow. I hope that it will force him into CLOSER encounters. Ha! I have been blessed with a great bunch of friends.
Fassettor- This book spans over 35 years, but over the past 20 years I have been shooting Wes Wallace and Brachenburry bows, however the one on the cover is the second bow I made myself. Its name is of course “Herd Bull”. Some think that the lower limb is a little twisted, but the 3 does I took this year with it did not seem to mind. Ha! Mike
-
Just ordered mine. Looking forward to a great read.
-
Just in time to fill the gap between post season scouting and shed time. Thanks for sharing your passion with ours! Bowtough. :clapper:
-
Biggie...I agree. In certain cirlces you and I are famous...at least thats what Uncle B tells me...
-
peter- I said the same thing to my wife once, her reply was quick and surprisingly humorous,
"yeah, the circle that runs from your one ear to around to the other"
I guess my humor has worn off a bit on her the last 18 years....
-
LOL!!! Good one! I told my girlfriend that Biggie and I were famous...She rolled her eyes and shook her head...what does that mean?
Peter
-
I ordered mine last night , hope it's one of the first hundred . Can't wait , thanks Mike , Fred
-
Sounds like a great read. I just ordered mine. I've been soloing for 35 years looking forward to what what I'm doing wrong ! I hope to get it autographed.
-
Biggie and Peter, it's OK to be a legend in your own mind. At least you have one fan, even if it is you. Awe heck, you guys are famous to me!
-
Mike ordered your new book on January 26th cant wait to set down and read it. :readit: :readit: :readit: :readit: :clapper:

Great news Mike, I plan on being there Saturday.
-
I ordered mine day before yesterday. Sure hope I was one of the "First 100" The "passions of a solo bowhunter" had me sold as there is nothing I enjoy more than being alone in the woods to let my mind and spirit observe without interruption.

-
I'm looking forward to "a fresh voice in the wilderness." It's not that what's out there isn't good, but I've read it all already. Looking forward to getting a copy of your book Mike. See you at K-Zoo.
-
I just got a call from Mike. The books have arrived from the printer and he's signing them as we speak. He also said they did an excellent job and he's very pleased with the results. My hat's off to the printer. A day early... that's unheard of! Great job guys! And thanks from all of us. BW
-
I got a call from Matt Smith, president of James W. Smith printing in Gurnee, Illinois that he had something for me and to meet at the Shanty Restaurant at 7:00PM. I thought it was an advertising poster we were working on that day, but it turned out to be the partial shipment of books. I am working on mailing the advanced orders ASAP and plan to have books at K-zoo. Please stop by the Sitka booth for an autographed copy. THANK YOU ALL! Mike
-

Got mine from Mike at Kalamazoo yesterday.
-
Worked the Sitka booth at Kzoo with Mike, Steve O and Brian W this weekend Mike's book was very well received. There was a lot of interest in the 09 Sitka line up as well we had a very busy booth, it was great to meet new people and talk to old friends.
-
I picked up a copy at Kzoo on Friday. Mike was fantastic to talk with. I haven't begun to read it yet, but if he writes with the type of passion he speaks, I'm sure I won't be able to put it down...Mike
-
Damn...That Mitten is a handsome author...in all that Sitka!
-
The huge philosopher Biggie Hoffman once told me, “If your friends don’t buy a book from you, who will.” Thank you all TRADGANG friends and all other friends for your orders. The response has been very humbling. If you didn’t get one at K-zoo we are taking orders at www.brothersofthebow.com (http://www.brothersofthebow.com) (TG Sponsor). Thanks again, Mike
-
Mike--
Got it over the weekend in the mail, and despite very mild weather that called me to the woods, I couldn't help myself and read it all the way through (impressing my 2nd grade daughter that I could read that many pages!--she's quite a reader herself). Very well done, the color photos are an especially nice touch and help share the beautiful mountain views that b/w pics wouldn't do justice to. By the way, it's expensive to do a book that way; Mike spent extra money to better tell his story with the color pics and we should be grateful.
Coming from a family of hunters, I could relate to much of what Mike shared in that regard. But my favorite parts were those that because of my profession, I've still not had the good fortune to do: the deep trek solo adventures. I envy Mike's persistence and effort in those chapters, and come away from the reading very impressed.
If you like reading adventure books, you need to pony up for this one. And, as in any well-written adventure book, there is much how-to to be shared here. In fact, I would think for the elk hunter who wants to hone his game, there is MUCH to be learned here.
Mike, well done! It's already provided me with additional inspiration and motivation.
Bryce

HUGE philosopher?
Got mine Saturday. Number 25, same as my PBS Life Membership number. That makes it special to me all on it's own.
Can't wait to read the chapter on "What is Your Sleep Number?"
-
Mike...How much would you charge me to autograph my book?
-
HawgLife You know I would never charge anyone for an autograph. Just come to my house tonight and I will personalize the book you have buddy. Ha!
-
I got the last copy at Kalamazoo late Sunday afternoon. I look forward to reading it.
Gregg
-
Mike...your benevolence will not go unnoticed!..What time is best for you?..And will you be serving dinner?
-
Yeah...what time is dinner???
-
It was great to see the response Mike was getting with the book at K-zoo. After reading just the dedication inside the cover, I felt the $30 was WELL-spent. The foreward, introduction, and first chapter were icing on the cake, and I look forward to enjoying the rest of the book.
Mike is a fine man and a very good author. Congratulations on bringing your dream to fruition, and thanks for sharing it with all of us!

I picked up my copy this weekend at Kazoo. On the drive home today my wife was paging through and kept reading passages to me. She didn't ruin the endings to the stories though, so I can't wait to dive into it on my own!
I have three cases of them that will be on their way to Texas with me on Friday. Anyone coming to the last three of the Wensel PigGig's should be able to get a copy through Gene.

Just a note for all you readers...
I am typically guilty of this. Don't just start at Chapter 1. Read the dedication, foreward, acknowledgements, and introduction. It will give you some important background! I've just started reading the finished product today and I'm real proud of the job Mike has done  .
-
Got mine yesterday #93. Only got to read the dedication, forward, introduction etc, but I'm already plannning on buying addtional copies for some friends and family. I can't wait to get started on Chapter 1 tonight. I promised my son I'd read to him at bedtime, and couldn't think of a better book to do so.
Thanks Mike.
Tim

I'm ready to begin Chapter 4. I've been a "lone hunter" for the past 25 years. I love MY time in the woods. I have to resist the temptation to read your book in one sitting. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Thanks for a great read! Book #94.
-
I just returned from Seattle, to find my copy. I have promised my lil' boy "Tanner" that every night I'll read him 1 chapter before bedtime.

Hey Bonebuster..Good visual.Good way to start the weekend...
-
I'm almost half way through it. WOW MIKE!!
Some of the other "bowhunter" books have left me a little bit dissapointed. Not this one....total awe here.
-
Herdbull-I have read the entire book. I liked Chapter 5's adventure and was completely spellbound reading about your friend Bart. The whole thing was great and it has now left me wanting to read more of your adventures. Will there be a second book?????? Maybe its just winter/cabin fever, but the book was making me yearn for next fall and an out of state hunt again.
-
Just ordered mine, cant wait to read it.
-
I'm sure mine is waiting for me back in Kabul, Afghanistan as I'm currently on leave back home here in aussie.
Gee I hope I got a numbered book!

-
Mike,
Thanks for signing and sending the book directly to me, I finished it last nite. Gotta say You done good, real good!!!
-
I popped back on this thread ealier this evening after dinner, and after seeing several had thier books, I reaized I had not gotten todays mail.
I pulled on my boots and sludged dow nthe muddy driveway to the mailbox, and low and behold, I had a book in the box!
I read the first 5 chapters, and now had to force myself to put it down and get to bed.
Great reading so far, I suspect I'll finish it tommorrow at work.
-
Got mine in the mail today as well. I haven't started reading it yet...but I will before the evening is over.
-
Here's a photo I took of Mike's book. Nicely done throughout! Hit F5 on your keyboard if the photo doesn't open.
-
Thanks Gary. It looks like you slipped one of Gene's arrows in there. Nice touch. Mike
-
Yeah, it was hanging on my arrow rack collecting dust. I thought about using one of Barry's arrows but Gene's woody was purrtier:^)
-
Mine arrived yesterday. I didn't get in until late last night, so I didn't have time to do much other than scan through it, but was impressed by the quality.
I look forward to starting to read through it tonight.
Thanks again, Mike.
-
Thanks recureve_shooter. For others I should be at Mich Trad Bowhunters banquet this weekend Feb 21. Mike
-
Great job on the book Mike! It's become one of my favorites in my collection...
-
Mike, I am looking forward to seeing you at the MTB Banquet this weekend. I am almost done with the book and it is great. You have inspired me to start chasing some of my own hopes and dreams in the way of hunting.
-
I finished the first read of this book, and was really impressed. Many of the stories I of his elk hunts I could relate to, and found his analogies and reasoning of some of the hunts that did not have the desired end similar to some my own experiences and thoughts.
Great book. I have always wanted to do a solo mountain hunt, and this book is an inspiration to do it. I doubt it will be this fall, but it will happen.
-
Mike, I was reading mine on the flight home from Pig Gig...but due to unknown circumstances (old age & weariness) I left it on the plane in the seat pocket :( I have a search on it with Continental as it was signed as a collector's copy :) If it doesn't show up, I'll need another signed one...tippit
Left out most important part...I got the start of a Great Read!
-
Mike, I just ordered a copy. After reading all the great things people are writing about this book I had to have a copy also.I'll be looking forward to the read. Thanks Chris
-
Got your book Mike, and like I expected, excellent reading, can't get enough of it.This is the kind of book that I will read over and over, truly the best!!

My wife gave me my copy for Valentines day. It was supposed to be for my birthday in May, but there was no way to make it till then.
She actually gave it to me on Friday night, if I promised not to ignore her while I read it cover to cover.
I have had to go to my thirteen year old sons` bedroom and retrieve it,(TWICE) so that I can read MY new book. This is the ultimate compliment!!!
In this day and age, when a boy will grab a book and go read it on his own, there is nothing more to say.
Thanks Herdbull...indeed, "Self reliance can`t be bought"
-
Chris, Glad you got yours. I hope it will bring you a touch of home over there.
Bonebuster- Yes I know what you mean, and thank your son for the compliment. I hope he picks up on its OK to make mistakes if we learn from them, and that we can find success even in our own failures. My older boys have not found time to read much of it yet, but my ten-year-old grandson has read to chapter 6 already. Ha! Thanks, Mike

I ordered mine at the very beginning, it still hasn't showed up. Probably to do with Canada Customs, a dirty bunch of scoudrals they are !LOL
-
Just finished reading this book. Mike, you did a great job conveying what bowhunting is really all about. Reminded me a lot of some of the better bowhunting books from the 50's and 60's.
-
Thanks Tom- Will you be at the United Bowhuters of Illinois banquet Feb 28? I plan to give a seminar there and will have some books available. Mike
-
Ahhhhhhhh yes, the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters are in for a treat at the banquet this weekend...
-
Got mine yesterday. Looking forward to reading it. Will have to wait for a while though. Too many other things in the go right now. Did read the dedication and sent a prayer.
-
I finished mine on a couple nights ago and I started to reread it last night. I have noticed when I really like a book I do this to pick up the small details that didn't stick out to me the first time through. I am really looking forward to the Michigan Tradional Bowhunters Banquet tomorrow night to hear Mike actually talk and tell stories about some of these hunts.
-
Mike, Thanks for a great read. I'm a 61 year old who has just been inspired to go back to the mountains again and back pack in. I too am in the process of going back through the book a second time. Thanks so much for your insights and shared experiences. I have been recommending the book to all my friends. Hope to see you sometime and learn a little more about bowhunting and packing out mountain game. Thanks again, Don

Which i could be there have a great time guy's

Tim and all others- I’m sorry I couldn’t make the Mich Trad Bowhunters banquet. Thank you for the prayers for my family, and your understanding. I’m also grateful to Darryl for stepping in as the speaker. I hope to see you all down the trail. Thanks, Mike
-
Mike, no appologies needed. Your family is more important and we will continue to keep them in our prayers. Take care buddy and I am sure we will see you around this summer.
-
Mike, no sorry necessary...we will all keep your family in our prayers!
-
Five days from the order to the delivery to Germany
Thanks again Mike, and for your wife the best health wishes!

Mike, like the guys said, no need for apologies. I bought one of the books as soon as Steve O came through the door with them and I started reading it right then as I sat at the door taking tickets. When I got home I was so tired but I made a pot of coffee and read until 7am! :D
I read books in a very strange way....I have to have a good hot cup of coffee to sip between pages, and I have to read slow and often re-read stuff. If a book is REAL GOOD it will cause me to start reflecting to my past hunts and experiences and the next thing I know, I have read a few pages and don't remember what was written as I am lost in thought with my memories. This book must be REAL,REAL GOOD because I keep doing a lot of re-reading!
-
Mike,
You and your family are absolutely in our prayers. Ditto to what Jim and others have said, no need for apologies, per the MTB banquet. We're like one big family, and when one hurts we all do.
Mike Deppe offered up a prayer for you and your family at the banquet. It was a very special moment, and we all feel for you.
I'm also reading your book, and I can't put it down. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us...very inspiring.--Don McKellar
-
Thank you all for being so understanding. I’m glad most are enjoying my book and starting to share it with their friends.
We worked out a few bugs on the brothersofthebow.com site by making it appear that the book price for overseas delivery is $40, but in reality the book is still only $30 but we had to fake out PayPal so that the total cost for book and S&H for overseas shipping will be consistent with international first class. I’m glad to see that Ben Kleinig placed an order from Australia that will go out tomorrow. Thanks Ben, and all others for your trust. I hope you can experience at least some stirring in your soul while reading this tribute to my life’s passions. Mike
-
Mike, my wife ordered me a copy thru the brothersofthebow site and it arrived today! Excellent! I hope this is the first of many! Prayers are going up from IN. God Bless, Mike
-
Mike,
So sorry to hear of your challenges of last week. You and Paula are still in my prayers, and I hope things look a bit better by now.
Do you know if it looks like you'll be able to come to the UBI banquet this weekend, or will you need to hold off on that, as well? I was hoping to bring a couple friends to your seminar.
Very best wishes,
Daryl
-
Mike,
I was able to secure a copy from Gene in Texas and have devoured a 1/3 of it already. Great read by the way. On a different note you and your family are in my prayers, hang in there & don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. :archer:
-
My favorite part so far is "Thirteen days of nocked arrows". I think all of us can absolutely relate to that feeling when you decide it is time to nock an arrow. Loved it.
-
Daryl - I’m going to have to play it day by day as far as UBI. I hope if you get your friends to go they will enjoy themselves whether I’m there or not… don’t forget Monty will be there. Ha!
Beachbowhunter- In some chapters I explain how I found reward even in failure, but in “Thirteen Days of Nocked Arrows” I try to, not so subtly, redefine success many times. Successful bowhunting does not always end in the classic sense with a dead buck or bull. Ha! I’m glad you are enjoying it. We are blessed, Mike
-
Thanks, Mike. Continued prayers. Daryl
-
I will not be able to make my speaking engagement at the United Bowhunters of Illinois banquet due to my wife's illness. I have already called Jim Ellis. I hope you will all have a great time, and thank you for your support. Mike
-
Mike,
Sorry to hear of the continuing challenges you face in your family. We'll miss seeing you, but I applaud your clear priorities! Give our best to Paula, please!
Blessings to you,
Daryl

The first 100 were numbered and signed by Mike.
-
Markus- There is special "Mitten Family" stamp and a number on the title page. I did personalize a few books with Special "Herdbull" copie as well. However, nearly all books sold so far have been autographed by me. Thanks again guys, you're a special bunch. Mike
-
ahhh... thanks Mike!
-
I bought a copy from Gene in Texas Mike and wanted to congratulate you on producing such a fine read. Great book for old guys like me and super for hooking young hunters and showing them what it "should" be all about. Thanks, and all the best to your wife and family. Prayers for a speedy recovery, Grant Young
-
Speaking of which Mike, thanks for autographing mine. I appreciate. Your wife and family are in my prayers too.
-
Mike...
I have had my copy for a few weeks and have gotten through about half of it. Im loving it. It will definitely hold a place on the shelf for many many years. Best wishes to you and the family getting through everything.
Thanks for autographing the copy you sent to me. I appreciate it.
Dustin

I just got my copy last night and the book looks great. I love the cover without a jacket and the pictures inside the actual cover its a nice touch. I really like the colour photos inside. Your family is in my prayers as well. Thanks for taking the time to sign it.

I have real problem with this book. I ain't getting enough sleep! I like to read before bed and I am having a really hard time putting this down. Plan to be asleep by 10 or 10:30 and have ended up reading until midnight! I am pretty close to finishing it up and if you haven't bought it yet, you should get one soon. Thanks Mike for an excellent read. God bless and prayers are still being sent up. Mike
-
Mike, you brought me back to my college years backpacking in WV awakening to find bear tracks through my campsite. Like many, I had a hard time putting your book down. Like all great books, it was evidently clear that you write from the heart. Thank you for sharing your wilderness. You've inspired me to take up my solo ways once again. I'm planning a fall elk hunt to Colorado, somewhat confused just where to start with all the info on the internet, but I've just started my research. Going through some of my old gear brought back memories of weeks alone fly-fishing for native mountain Brook Trout. Most of all, thanks for putting hunting back in to the perspective that it belongs. I will reflect on you and your stories on my own future wilderness hunts. Thank You and my prayers go out to you and your family.
-
Thanks guys. I tried for a nostalgic feel with this book and hoped the reader would reconnect with their past. I don’t care for folded dust covers that get all beat up and ripped because they aren’t as durable for a keepsake. I too much prefer the wrapped cover case bound. I would like to thank Matt Smith and Nick Salter for their input on the cover design. This book is only one month old, and we are already talking about our second printing thanks to all of you. Mike
-
Mike,
All I can say is AWESOME...the book is such a great read that I, to like so many others, had a hard time putting it down...Books that are written from the heart are much more enjoyable to read and this one is just that...I could just go on and on about how much I enjoyed reading it but most of what I could say is written so much better in the above posts...Also the cover and color pictures are just the icing on the cake...well done brother very well done.
All the best to you and your family.
-
Mike,
Thanks for a great read! I couldn't hardly put the book down. I know that I will never be able to go on many of the hunts that you have experienced, but it was enjoyable being able to feel as though I was right there with you. Hope to meet you at the WTA banquet next weekend.
You and your family are in my prayers.
Kevin
-
Thanks Chris and Kevin. I'm glad it stirred your soul. The WTA is only a few hours from my house and I hope I can make it up there, but I can't promise. I will have some autographed copies of my book shipped up there for Bob Daigle to sell for me. They are a great bunch of people and a strong organization. It was a good time last year. Thanks, Mike
-
Mike ,Thank you for taking the time to pass your thoughts and Hunts on. I to ran a trap line when I was younger and to this day. In fact our water season will end in ten days.Love those spring rats You made me feel like I was there with you on all those hunts. Your writings will forever be kept close. In fact all the float trips this winter my thought went back to your writings.I find my escapes can be afloat on the creek after some rats and mink..To see the cars passing on the road and me and the dog in the canoe just floating along with just one care in the world..To enjoy..Life is Great..can't wait for the next one..Thank you Tucker
-
Mike, we missed you at the UBI banquet but understand that our families always come first. We all send prayers for you and your wife. I just ordered your book and can't wait to read it.
-
Bill- I was so looking forward to coming down there and having fun with everyone in Springfield. Thanks for your understanding.
Tucker- I was planning ot foat a river in Iowa this past season in a canoe, but instead of checking traps, I hoped to quietly put ashore every 200 yards or so and rattle some horns. On the day I planned to do it, a thin layer of ice formed all along the shore line- you know how that is. The river said, "Not today." It would have been to noisy - so it was back to a treestand in the timber. At first light, three coonhounds who ditched their owner during the night ran through my woods. I never got another chance for my river-rattling. Ha!
-
Gene and I have been gone almost six weeks running the Pig-Gigs in Texas so I've been kinda out of the loop. We're still trying to catch up. I wanted everyone to know I'm scheduled to be guest speaker at the West Virginia Bowhunters Association banquet this weekend in Flatwoods, WV. I'm planning on hauling a case of Mike's excellent new book back with me. Since airline luggage/weights are now rather restrictive I'll only have one case, but they're already autographed by Mike. It'll be a good chance to thumb through it and save a little on S&H costs. You won't be disappointed. Hope to see some of you there. BW
-
Glad to see you boys are back "Uncle B"
I imagine you already have picked up a couple of totes full of sheds...
-
Can't believe I missed this back in January!
Mike, I sent you an email.
-
I like my copy very much, and am enjoying the read.
-
Thanks Barry for selling some at WV banquet. I had plans of going to the Wis Trad Archers Banquet this weekend, but it looks like I won't be able to make it. However; I have sent some autographed copies to Bob Daigle who plans sell some for me at the WTA members booth.
Dave- I sent you a note and plan to get a book out to you today if you send me your address.
Ben- I'm glad your copy made it to Australia and you can relate to similar passions. Thanks, Mike
-
Just finished your book, Mike. Very well written! I really, really enjoyed it. Blessing upon you and your family. Thanks for signing my book, even though it wasn't one of the first hundred.
-
Greetings Mike!
My copy arrived today - BUT I won't see it until June when my 25th wedding anniversary rolls around!

Dave, I'm glad your kids enjoyed the posters. In a way it links Primal Dreams to my book.
If you google "One with the Wildernes" you will get a hit on suport link in the right side column. If you google "One with the Wildrness Mike Mitten" you will get a lot of hits as well.

Can we order them now?
-
Yes, all new orders will be filled with the second edition printing, which features improved paper and over ten more full color photo pages. The book remains case bound (hard-cover). I plan to number, stamp and autograph the first 100 copies. I have a list of advanced orders and there are still many of the collector books still available. I expect my book delivery in a couple of days and will ship all advanced copies priority mail the next day. I hope to have copies at Comptons this weekend as well. Thank you for your interest and support. Mike
-
Mike, I have #26 and it is fantastic. It came at just the right time too because, after 27 years of applying, I finally got drawn for a moose tag here in Maine and we've got some of those 60+" bulls here too. The stories of your moose hunts in Alaska are inspirational to say the least. So much so that beside using one of my own Black Timber Longbows I am going to be using self made wood arrows and one of them will have the last of a dozen of the original Bear Razorheads on it. This razorhead is still unused in the original Bear package that my mom gave me for my 14th birthday way back in 1958. The first deer I ever shot fell to one of the others from the same package. I've used many other types between then and now, but now is the time to use the last of them.
Thanks for the inspiration and for the great book.
Craig

Craig – There are several threads that feature my book. You may have gotten one of the first copies of the second edition that came out mid June. As you well know, the hunt is as much about romance as anything else. I am glad you have connected to your own past through my writing. Take care, good luck and have fun this fall! Mike
-
Mike - I've got number 46 of your second edition and I have injoyed it so very very much.
It will take it's place along side my first edition Fred Bear Field Notes and my Glenn St.Charles, David Peterson, C. M. Sackett, and E. Donnall Thomas Jr. books as well as many other great authors I've collected. To be read over and over through the years and hopefully passed down to someone who will enjoy them as much as I have.
Thanks again for your great contrabution to our passion and love.
DJ
-
Mike,
Will you be at Denton Hill this year and if so will you sign a couple more books for me to give to my hunting buddies?
Craig
-
DJ- That is very humbling. Thanks!
Craig- I won’t be at Denton Hill this year, but I’m very seriously considering it for next year. I will be at the PBS odd year gathering July 17-19, 2009 at Ojibwa Bowhunters in New Berlin, Wis. Whip (Joe Lasch) will also be there and I plan to autograph some books as well as my complimentary poster “It Can’t Be Bought” for him to take to Denton Hill. He will have them in his booth so you can pick up some for your friends there. Mike
-
Thanks Mike. I'll plan on doing that. I've wanted to meet Joe anyway. When they were called Rivers Edge, they used my Bow Bolt takedown system and it is always nice to meet folks in person that you've only spoken with on the phone.
I will be 65 in September and the uninvited slow down process that Gene wrote of not long ago is starting to get a pretty good hold on what I can do now compared to what I once could do. So, my advice to those who have read your book and are thinking they'd like to participate in a similar manner is that they should not wait for "the right time" but do it NOW. I have done some of what you have done (but only one deer at a time on MY shoulders) and I know that a lot of what I've done will have to surfice as dreams from the past, not of the future. Those "dream hunts" must be accomplished as a younger man while you are still able.
I would also advise that anyone who hasn't read your book and is thinking about a "dream hunt" should get a copy and besides just plain enjoying the read they should use it to see if they measure up to the challange and as a reference to the types of things to be preparred for so the dream doesn't turn into a nightmare. As you say in your book, the Boy Scout motto, "BE PREPARED" is a good one to live by.
Thanks again for sharring your adventures and your personality with us.

Just ordered a copy and really look forward to a good read from what I hear in this thread.
-
I just finished reading number 83 of your second edition. Bought from you at comptons. I really enjoy the way you write, made me fell like I was right there. By and far the best "Hunting" book I have read to date. I Thank you for taking the time to write down your experiences for the rest of us to enjoy.
-
Just ordered mine along with that flashlight and Come November. I haven't been this excited about getting books in a long time. That's probably cuz all mine are usually for school though. lol
-
I picked up my Second Edition at Compton also. What an improvement! More photos and they look a lot crisper on the thicker pages.
-
I ordered 2 2nd edition books a month ago. 1 for myself and another for a good friend who I had planned on giving a copy to. I hope they get here soon.
-
BSBD,
That does not sound like Mike. I know he worked some very late nights last month when he received the 2nd Edition shipment to fill the backorders. You should drop him a note to make sure something did not fall thru the cracks. He is out of touch right now, but should be back on line next week.
-
well, as soon as my family is back on our financial feet I will be ordering one of these books.
It looks like a great read!!
--c--
-
Thank you all your your kind comments.
BSBD- I mailed both books via priority mail on the first day that the 2nd edition became available to me (June 17). I will send you a PM to figure out what went wrong. Thank you for understanding. Mike
-
Mike,
I appreciate your fast response.
I received both books you shipped on 7/11 this week.
I'll let you know if the others ever turn up.
Thanks again.
Dave
