New to group and wanted to say hello and thanks for this great site. Quick run down of my bow hunting skills, none. Let's say that age wise I am shall we say very well seasoned, or rather long in the tooth. Many years of hunting, Colorado and Alaska mostly; all with rifle, short time in the early 80s with a PSE compound but not successful with it nor did I put in the effort. I gave up rifle hunting ten years ago, just seemed more like a war zone than great moments alone with nature. Last year I bought a Martin Savanna 50# at 28" and just became a fanatic with regard to traditional archery. I pull 27.5" and do wonder if I can take this bow hunting or is it to light to be respectful of the game that I would like to hunt again. I do have a problem with my left shoulder so I lock out my left side then draw with my right side, not sure if I can go much more that say 55# pull. What is the main differences between longbow and a recurve? Anyway just wished to say hello.
You can kill anything in North America with that poundage, with a well placed arrow and a sharp broadhead. There was alot of animals taken with alot less poundage! Welcome to the gang!

Welcome to the gang< you bow is plenty for north American game , as others have said, shot placement, and scary sharp broadheads, plus a fine tuned setup, equals trad bow harvests!!I have taken deer with 44lb bows and wouldn't hesitate to shoot bear with it!! :campfire:
Welcome to the Gang! As others have said, that's plenty of bow. Fred Eichler made the traditional grand slam of big game with a 54# bow. Yup, moose, big bears and all.
Accuracy, well tuned arrows of about 10 grains per pound of draw weight (some of us like a little more than that), and a scary sharp broadhead is all you need. Get close, pick a spot, and harvest game!
Welcome Jamie - some great folks here. Some good bowhunters too...tee hee
