Title: Im Lovin' Trad. Archery!...
Post by: Tree342 on January 24, 2009, 03:00:00 PM
I got my first trad. bow for Christmas and I finally got correctly spined arrows for it.

Today was the first time I have ever shot a group, with a trad bow. 7 out of 8 shots went into a group the size of my palm @ 10 yards. I re-shot the only flyer and it went dead center.

Heres a few pics of her. Shes a 62", #40 Green Tree Poliers. I made a rest out of felt and the string scilencers out of some silkie rope. I Spray painted the limbs and camo taped most of the riser.

The arrows are 570 Beman carbon flash arrows with plastic feathers and 78gr points.

PS: Thanks for all the help I've got here!

Nice looking bow! Sounds like a good start on the shooting too.Welcome to the addiction! My last compound was an Oneida too, closest to a recurve out there. Finally sold it and am all Trad for two years now, and could never go back. Trad's way too much fun.

I noticed in your pictures, it looks like your shooting off of the shelf.  If that is so? You will get even better groups if you have your plastic vanes on your shafts replaced with feathers.  Feathers will collapse when going over the shelf producing a very smooth shot.  Vanes on the otherhand, are usually shot off of "Flipper" or some other style of elevated rest designed to allow the vane to pass without much if any contact. They usually "JUMP" a little when shot off of the shelf without a very high [way above normal] noking point.

Great bow buy the way.    :clapper:  I also had a Oneida years ago. I think my son may still have it.

Thanks guys. I am shooting of the shelf and I do have "feathers" on my arrows. There plastic though. Not rubber vanes.

I got the Onedia Tom Cat II at a pawn shop for $30. And it came with a bowfishing arrow and reel! It badly needs adjustments though. And I cant shoot it well sense Im a lefty.
