Title: Bitzenberger Jig Question
Post by: el_kirk on January 24, 2009, 02:58:00 PM
I just borowed a Bitzenberger jig.  I have a right wing clamp, RW fletching and the jig I borrowed is set up for LW fletching.  I don't have a RW indexer.

After looking at the thing, I can't quite figure out why I need a different indexer for RW and LW fletching.  Isn't it just a ridge that the nock sits in and turns a pre-set (indexed) amount?

So can anyone explain to this novice why the different indexers?  Can I use the LW indexer with a RW clamp?  Or will the earth stop turning?

From reading my instructions that came with the clamp i think it's just the TM nock receiver that needs to be L R or straight.  The standard one and the Secret one fits all L R and straight.

If you are using carbon shafts and can rotate your nock after fletching you can use any indexer.  If you glue your nocks first the feathers won't line up right with the nocks.

Thanks you two.
Mark, not sure if I want to trust Alfred E. Newman's advice...   :)

You don't need a different receiver. You're good to go.

If youy try to spiral right wing fletching the way the left wing clamp is set up, it's not going to work very well.  The left wing clamp spirals to the left on the arrow when viewed from back to front, the right wing jig/clamp/feather spirals to the right.  Of course, you can bend the feather against its natural inclination, but it will not work as well as using the proper clamp  and offset/spiral for your fletching.
