Title: field points for goldtip arrows
Post by: V-Archer on January 21, 2009, 03:10:00 AM
I will get a Hoyt Tiburon that has a pull of 50# @28". What weight of field points can I use with 3555 goldtip arrows? (I draw 28")

Thanks,

V-Archer

I'm shooting some 3555's out of a 47# Tigercat. They are cut to 29.5 and have 175 gr points with the standard inserts, this could be a starting point for you. You may have to cut yours a little shorter.

they make field points anywhere from
125
145
175
200
250
that will work with your arrows to get them tuned right.
the 35/55s (.500) will work, and i just heard of a new gold tip that is a .600 spine.

Those shafts should spine at an equivalence of 63#.  With a cut to center bow I would think anything from 145gr on up would work.

I'd start with full length, about 30.25 with standard inserts and 125 grain points and start playing from there.  When you are tuning, never cut more than a 1/4" at a time.  Stone Knife up above may be close as well.  But I'd start long, with several point weights and start playing.  They shoot well and are durable once you get it right.

If you ever want to go heavier, my recipe for 670 gr gold tips out of a bow at about 50 @ almost 29" works well - but you'll need 5575 GT's.  Cheers.

I use 100gr inserts and 175 gr field points on my Gold Tips(35/55) out of my 51 to 59lb bows and I keep the Gold Tips full length.
