Hey all, I am looking at doing a black bear hunt and am planning for 2010. Right now I am looking at different places in Canada where I've found some good hunts for around $2500 for a week long including 2 bears. I am interested in getting some feedback from anywhere some of you might have been. I am just now starting to research this hunt and with time on my side right now I want to make sure I book a good hunt within my budget. I am also interested in any bear hunts that also offer moose hunts, which my wife is extremely interested in.

If you want in on the best bear hunt going give Tom Phillips a call and see if you can get in on Bear Quest III. Take a look at this thread below, and then do a search for other past Bear Quest threads. I've been on a number of bear hunts, and this is as good as it gets, plus you spend a week with a bunch of TradGangers, including BowDoc. That alone is worth the price of addmission!

Yeah, I suppose Biggie. "Best" is kind of a subjective thing. Depends what a guy is looking for. One thing I know for sure is you can't hunt moose at the same time.
But for reasonable cost, fantastic camp companions, multiple opportunities, and just an all around good time, BQ is great! Although maybe there are places that offer better opportunities at huge bears, Uncle Barry might even argue that point! ;)

Hey guys thanks for the info. I do a lot of bear hunting around my home town and have harvested one with my old recurve but it was a young bear in poor shape. I also missed a beautiful black bear twice. One shot went under his belly and then he came back out to sniff my arrow and I sent the next one over his back. Talk about not picking a spot. On that note I will continue to hunt bears around Cody (spot/Stalk due to grizzlies) but our numbers are not great nor are their size. I've always dreamed over going on a good baited bear hunt where I can sit and watch the bears and their behaviors and take it all in.

If you would like to stay in the states give Brian Johnson at twin bear outfitters a call.You can hunt bear and deer for less than $2500.By the way the last time I was up hunting with him was 2007,I killed a bear that weighed about 300lbs and 5 does.Tracy killed a monster chocolate colored bear.Well monster in my book(nearly 400lbs).She saw 7 bear before she shot hers.I saw probebly 10 bucks that would make Pope and Young,and to many does to count.The bucks were just to far for me.You can party hunt in Minnesota.PM me if you would like his number.We are going back up in Sept. of this year.It does seem that every other year is better for baiting bear in that area.So I would suggest trying to get in this year or 2011 if you are interested.

What part of Canada are you wanting to go hunt in?
I've had great bear hunts in Alberta and British Columbia. Do you want baited or spot n stalk? One bear or two?

I have a buddy that used wolf river outfitters in northern Ontario about 3 years back I think it cost him about $1300 plus his gas and hotels to get there. The owners name is Doug Park - email is dpark4@msn.com and phone # is 807-857-2942. My buddy said it was a first rate operation and their success rate is 85-100%
I am open to hunt anywhere in Canada, however, after driving from Wyoming to Radisson Quebec (approx. 43 hours one way) I would prefer to stay a little closer if possible. I wouldn't mind staying in the states if the quality of hunts and/or bears is good.

I've read some good articles about Tim Doud at Bliss Creek Outfitters in Wyoming...Bighorn Mountains. He donated a hunt for P&Y last year if I recall.
You pack in on horseback and hunt from baited treestands.
Just another idea.
It's on my list of to do hunts.
