Title: Bottle Cap Broadheads
Post by: Arwin on January 18, 2009, 02:27:00 PM
While enjoying an adult beverage( I probabley have one or two a month, LOL!), I had a great idea while fiddling with the bottle cap. The mind formed a cheap way(depending on what your drinking) to obtain squirrel ammo.
Center punch a hole
Screw on
Fold forward with pliers.

Warning:
Ability to build these heads can be impaired by the number of heads you plan to make.     :biglaugh:          :jumper:

That's a good idea. I wonder how they fly?

Not sure yet, but I think at close range they'd be ok.

That is a great Idea. I wonder if you left the cap unfolded, if it would act like a judo/blunt type head that still punctures, but stops your arrows from being lost under snow.

Might not last to long, but cheap and easy.

I'll be experimenting. Thanks for sharing.

Really a cheap, good idea for small game. Even if I do expect Jeff Foxworthy to be chiming in any second...  :D

Im sure, if they fly ok, they would do good on small game in general. Think of the different ways you could modify it to suit the quarry....
Now only if I still drank...

'Might not last to long, but cheap and easy."

I'll bet they would last a long time if you backed them with a washer.

"You might be a redneck if your idea of an invention is to use a bottle cap to efficently(sp) kill a squirrel!"

The washer is another great idea.

That part about Jeff Foxworthy really gave me a laugh. Those things are good for all kinds of stuff.  I got a budy who makes them into fishing lures and catches a fish with them before he gives them to someone.

Arwin, I'm getting ready to go on a rabbit hunt here in Kansas with several  guys from trad-gang. I'll throw a couple of these in my quiver and try to give you a report. Tripper

Two Hearted Ale? A favorite IPA of mine.

Looks like it's worth trying.

When I was a kid in the early 70's, me and my cousins used to go to the countrly store down the road, get a hole handful out of the coke cooler cap opener box and make the same thing. Flies ok out to 20 yds, we shot squirrels, possums, toad frogs and just about anything else boys will shoot at with our bear fiberglass #30 and shakespear wonderbow #45.

Arwin,
I hope that was a two-hearted ale.  One of my favorites.

What keeps the cap from sliding down the arrow shaft at impact?

After dark, it's called a "night cap."

From past experience they fly just fine but don't hold up well.  At least they are cheap.

Don't know why, they would fly at close range.  Likely on impact might pop off (get it).  Just have to make the sacrife and have a few more adult beverages to have spare's in pocket with my mutli tool handy, after getting the resource of course.
