More later.....
Curt, looks like first buck in first video may have a limp. What ya think? Shawn
Looks like it to me.
That storm clip was a couple of yotes?
Last video, way in the back - another deer or ?
the one titled yote....has another set of eyes to the left at the end.
Shawn/Jamie....I thought so to...wish the clip was longer so I could tell exactly which buck it was....I'd bet it's the big 7....
Yes, "storm clip" is a couple of Yote's...
Dave...yes it does...
Here's a couple more clips....
More yote's...

As you can see, I have to do some "thinning", way too many coyotes around!!!
Yote winter fun and next year...hope you get to see those boys next year!
My camera date is a month off. Everytime I open the cuddeback, the batteries pop loose and I don't always reset everything, just the time cause to me, that's most important.
Very fitting for where they live huh???? :goldtooth:
Those Cuddies sure do take nice pix
Great photo`s...looking forward to more.
Guru, those `yotes are cruising quite regularly
as a pack. Must be some sort of funnel to bring them through there like that?
Exactly
You're not alone on the coyotes Curt, the guy that owns the land Hunter and I turkey hunt on has killed 9 of them since November, and our they are still showing up on our cameras........
Great pics, cameras are addicting aren't they?
David
Curt...that funnel reminds me of one here that I bowhunted for years, the one that I killed so many deer out of, the same one that I killed 2 bucks and a doe in 13 minutes one evening. Ah...the memories of those old blue Zwickies of the mid 80's.
Everything used that funnel....foxes, coons, turkeys, and I'm sure yotes used it too, I just never saw any.
Looks like you got a dandy there. I might have to take you up on your offer next season. :readit:

Thanks Curt! These were from my Expert. I have one of their older cams(c3000) and a new Capture, but they're not out yet.
Now that's a nice trail there Ron. I've got a couple of spots here in KY that look like that but for the most part, it's hard to find a trail that defined on the farm I hunt.
Marvin
Jeez...the last time I found a trail like that is was from milk cows........
Those are some fine looking Blacktail's. Something to look forward to next year.
picked up a new trail camera for Christmas. set up behind the house and in less than a week it captured 33 pictures of deer including this buck that looks like it has dropped its antlers already.

It looks like it Dustin, unless there's a twig right there, either way very cool!!
I've seen quite a few of them, but never got a pic.....
Here's one of the Heartbreaker and Lil' Forky. Can you guess who's who?

He broke a side in October keeping himself off limits. Man I hope he doesn't break off next year. He's a beaut.
A little better pic from earlier.
i may be wrong but the way i understood it the info that was told is as follows. when a deer breaks a side of horns they dont grow back the same the remaining good side grows back bigger than the damaged side. is that true
No that's not true.....
Tim
ok i stand corrected and humbly i mught add
Here is another recent trail cam pic from S.E. Ohio. I plan to retire this year and am scouting now in Ohio. I live in West Virginia and haven't hunted in Ohio yet.
Here's a few that I thought were interesting. We have had lots of snow and an unfinished housing developement in back of us so the deer pics have been somewhat limited this year. We have a number of the usual suspects but I think these are at least interesting. The first pic is a little dark but shows a doe and yearling sharing some "quality time". The camera is about 50 yards from our house on the opposite side of the brook that goes thru our property and feeds out pond.
One morning I was awoken about 5AM by a pack of coyotes across the pond near our feeder. Apparently this was one of them. I cropped the pic to show him better.
We have a family of gray foxes nearby and this one cooperated.
We have a couple of feeders across the pond. After I filled the one on the right it stopped working properly and dispensed very little corn. So I got one from Cabela's and set it up in the same location. We had about 25 turkeys coming in and one warm day the males were strutting.
Nice pics Bill.I bet you that fox has been up a tree more than once with big yotes like that afoot.
Got this guy some time in the night,January while Javelina huntig. My time/date stop working on my Bushnell trail cam so I sent back well see what they do.

I got Laura her own Cuddeback for Christmas this year. She found some fisher tracks on our path in the woods and set up her camera to see if she could get some pics of something other than deer. She got plenty of deer pics but did get a couple of the predators that lurk around in the dark hours.
At some point in the near future we will try "baiting" the fisher with some freezer burned meat on a leaning tree nearby...just like my trapper friends set up traps for them.

I never saw this guy all season while hunting. I had him on the trail cam back In early September and then bam, didn't see a hide or hair of him till late December. My season ends December 31st, he was huntable I believe but time was not on my side.

does that fox have a feather in his mouth?
No, he didn't. it's just the way he was standing.
That's an odd colored turkey. Is it a domestic bird?
I've never seen a "buff" colored turkey...pretty cool!
It is a wild bird. A wildlife biologist I work with said that it's a smoky gray mutant phase and that it's more prevalent in females than males. Delaware only has a spring gobbler season, no fall season, so that bird is safe (I hope), but it sure would make a great mount, hen or gobbler.
Don't see many mutants like that for a reason. She might be safe from 2 legged hunters, but the real pro's will get her pretty quick.
Just checked it today.

Keep the pics coming. This is a great thread.
curtis
unless you are in an area with high numbers, putting a cam out on a trail just isnt going to be enough. You are trying to get pictures on chance with that setup. Using some sort of bait station really has helped me out in getting pictures of animals in the wild. In the early spring and summer months I use mineral licks and blocks. After the season is up I put in a couple of different corn and soybean stations for the deer and turkeys. It has really helped in getting animals to stop in front of the camera and hang out there for a while.
Ok thanks!!

That's a happening place!
There's nothing at all on it....this is the same spot that all the critters funnel thru that I got the pix at the beginning of this thread....
All I did(as an experiment to see if I could get some critters to hesitate a bit) was move that piece of log to see what they would do when they first encountered it.....seems to be working

As an aside, Chase picked out the spot for the camera in the pics above. I really like the spot but played it down. I asked him, "So, should we go back to where we just came from and hang the 2nd camera there?" "I think we need to hang it here, this place just feels right." Makes a pappa proud.

Simple answer...it's a smoldering meteorite. :D
I finally got my first deer on the trail camera!!!
Although I made a few mistakes and the photo isn't great I'm still syked!!
First thing I messed up on was I set the date wrong. Because it is 24 hour time it says 6:44 in the morning when it is really 6:44 at night.
Next thing I did was attach the camera to a tree the was leaning back from my target area, therefore you only see the deers back. But now I know so hopefully I can get better pictures for ya in the future. ;)
Here it is:
JC, there may be no corn on the ground but guess where they are all headed?
I am sitting on the other trail of course... :banghead: :banghead:
Nice pic Santiam...healthy looking critter. Seems we often share the same problem: right time, wrong trail.
Biggie, yep, but they have to walk by me FIRST :D Course, I'll probably get buck fever when one of them big piney monsters strolls by and you'll get your shot anyway.
Hope it all works out for ya Santiam...hang in there it will all come together sooner or later.
JC, nice pix...seeing any horns starting to grow yet?
Biggie, are those piggies on the club? From the looks of it at least after deer season we can chase squirrels around as there appears to be no shortage of them.
Has anyone seen any rabbits?
Rabbits, yes. Pigs, no.
There may be some moving in though....
:-)
JC, I'm betting that's a young buck in that pic with the scar, and that scar is caused by the end of a beam being pushed against his side in a fight.
A broadhead would have been real sharp (pardon the pun) precise, and most likely a lot straighter line than that, with scarring and perhaps some crusty blood.
All you see there is white where the hair was pushed off the skin.
Just a humble man's 2 cents.
looks like a flashlight.somebody lookin for your cam?

Let's try to keep this to 2009 pix please
There are rabbits out the ear, Chris.
JC, I have never seen so much sign in pines as there is in that place. You planning to hunt from the ground or climb one of those 4 year old pines and pray?

bowhunter,
I thought so too. I almost had a heart attach when I loaded the card into my laptop and his picture poped up. I hunted hard for him but never saw him.
Take care

Had to slog thru some snow drifts a couple weeks ago to hang a couple trailcams. Most the snow has melted and I could get quite a bit closer this morning. I need to straighten one of the cams, it's canted like my bow when I shoot!

Last month my friend Todd Gregory and I went out to my property to do some chain saw work. Down in one part of the property several old bull pines had died due to flooding by beavers. The pines were huge and were blocking access to an open area the I knew the deer were using. These logs were right along the river and made traveling thru that area very difficult. We simply cut about 3 foot sections of the logs just to make a trail for the deer, bear and moose to use. Last week I went in and made a mineral lick right at the opening of one of the log cuts. This morning Laura and I went out there to check the camera and to plant an apple tree. There were deer tracks in the lick and a picture on the camera. Here is what was there. One of the deer is obviously a buck and I have reason to believe the other is, as well. There is a pair of them that that we played chess with last season. I think the deer at the licks are the same two in the pic from the previous season.

Thomas, full set of horns in February???????
Yep, full set, go figure. At least I know he made it thru the season. He lives right behind Joey's house.
Nice buck buddy! Hope ya get'um
Hey, Wayne...we busted a wad of 8 bucks out of the SC short pines in MARCH with both horns on them including a 22 inch wide 8 pointer....
Those Mississipi boys have a December/January rut if I remember right.
We typically see a few bucks carrying up into April..
We also kill some in Dec. that have shed.
Well Ray, at least now we know why Joey hasn't invited us over to his house.......
Last Friday I made a little turkey hunt and on the way back to the truck I found a nice trail. So I went back with a trailcam and hung it to see what might go by. I didn't have the right wrench for my lag bolts, so I just wrapped a Python Cable around my "apb" and straightened up one corner with a stick. When I left I walked by it...
Just 41 minutes later a bear came by, and of course he had to go knock the stick out from under the box...
Then later that same afternoon a nice bobcat came strolling by...

This yearling has HLS (hair loss syndrome). It's infested with a lice that causes them to scratch and chew themselves crazy during the winter. Quite often it affects the fawns and they die from the elements before the weather warms up. The lice is believed to have spread down the coast from Puget Sound in Washington and originated from animals brought over from Asia.

WOW! You got quite a variety of great shots there TK...especially of that cat.

Hey, what are you guys using for mineral licks?
Basinboy, Those are great quality pix, what kind of cam are you using?
Found a spring a week ago with numerous bear trails around it, and lots of clawed up cedar trees. I hung a Tcam on it, but think I need to hang it on the other side of the water since the bears are too close. Had at least 2 maybe 3 different bears come by.

just set my trail cam up about four days ago and it's looking good! so far it looks like i have a six, eight, and a heck of a ten pointer, with his tongue covered with mud, coming to my lick. not to mention all the does. my mineral lick is under a persimmon tree that is a hot spot in the early fall. hopefully one of these guys will come by then.

Tree killer & Santiam; are those Roosevelts? Beautiful lush background. Also, "Devil Spikes" above sure looks thin.
Those be Rosies, the Cascade varitey...Ron's camera is north Cascades, fairly high...I am central Cascades, fairly low..
Only a little over 2 months and it will be Rosie season... :bigsmyl: :campfire:
Sweet pics Santiam
This is only a couple hours before the longtail came by...Hope he is safe and sound...

The elk near my Tcams are mostly Rockies. The Rosies are usually lower on the west slope of the Cascades.
Devil's Tines are the little points at the base of the antlers where the brow tines come out. They're usually 2 to 4 inches in length.

Santiam,
There is nothing in the world cuter then a Calf. nice pics.
Checked a couple Tcams and moved one of them to a new location. Got some nice pics the last 5 days, but this Blacktail buck is one of the funkiest bucks I've ever caught on "film"! He might look pretty nice with one of my Doug Fir arrows in his ribs! :archer:

Have you named him yet?

These are a few of 981 images I got in 20 days at one location. I have my camera set for 1 minute interval trigger, so I don't get too many of the same critters.
All the images contained deer, turkeys, and hogs

Nice photos guys
Thanks Mike
In a two day span I had 146 pictures of bears on my trail cam. I also have this small cinnamon bear coming in but he usually chews on the camera, so I don't ever get great pics of him.

This stud Blacktail showed up the last couple days. Our bucks don't shed velvet till around Labor Day, so will he grow much more in the next 2 months?

Those are some *nice* shots Tater!
Are you using a homebrew or a commercially available camera?
Shoot straight, Shinken
Ron, awesome pix as usual bud
Tater, That looks like a heck of a spot for a treestand!
Someone walked off with my cam I've had set in the funnel since last year
But I went in today with what is now my one and only cam and set it. It covers basically the same travel pattern. But is in a thicker spot that is real hard to get to and hidden much better. I'll probably only check it one every 2-3 weeks.
I found this spot this winter and I think it'll be the key to killing one of those good bucks that were using the area last year
Curt,
Treestand or ground blind this little meadow has produced some great results over the years.
Pat
"This big 4pt might be a shooter!"
Geez Ron, that would be a heck of a muley, let alone blacktail. Great pics guys. Too bad about the camera Curt.

Great Pic's Tater!! Keep em' coming.......
Here's a couple of pictures of a hog using the trail below our cabin. He's going to the wallows created by the springs that supply our water. The trail is bare earth beaten in an area of heavy duff. There is mud about 30" high on the trees on the trail and a nice pig hole under the fence with a coating of mud on the wire.

love all the pic's!! will set 2 cams out in the morning.
Checked mine again today though didn't download the pics off it. Just another bear and some squirrels is all. Seems I have found the bear highway in the area.
Sounds great but by season they will have altered the route.
Great pics by all! really cool thread

This is my favorite thread :goldtooth:
Thanks Ryan for putting those picks on bud, The bucks are finally starting to show up.

Caught this fat guy carrying a ladderstand into my best spot.
Well,... is that public or private land. :readit: :D
I don't have pigs in DE. I want to see some bone!
Not quite bone yet, still tissue but....
I just got back from a week in Wisconsin. While there I spent some time visiting friends. Driving around in the evening of July 1st we saw this guy out in a field with half a dozen or so other deer. There were 3 or 4 other Bucks with him and one other P&Y class that was about 20" wide but only just branching into his G3's, this guy just dwarfed them all. We watched him for about 20 mins. thru some quailty optics at about 100 yds. with our jaws on the floor. Then we thought to get a video camera but by the time we got back there were only a few does out. My buddy was going to be on a mission to get some video of him before the summer is out. Later I was looking thru some stacks of old pix he had laying around and came across a trail cam pix of the same buck which turned out to be from 2 yrs. ago. Same antler configuration. When I got home I e-mailed him asking if he had any luck. He sent this. Feel free to drool!
Obviously the date isn't right. Guess I better tell him to set that camera up. He said it was taken on July 3rd. Another month or so to grow! Yikes!
NICE BUCK!!
WOW what a buck!!! I have not got a pic of one that nice in 3 years. I am kind of glad though, it will make a man a bit obsessed!!!!!!!! :knothead:

:D
Curt, i should have named it "Four pregnant Hoes at the Jacuzzi"..I counted up 21 different females swines pregnant for last weeks pics..I'm letting hogdancer work on some of them. He's 2 for 1 ! figure that out
Put mine out over the weekend and got one to watch... this pic created some anticipation.
That stuff on his head must itch- definitely a buck! After this shot he stuck his head in the branches for some scratching.
Never got a clear shot of his rack, but it appears that he's developing a little more slowly than others. Good width and height to start, for a north MS deer.
Great pig pic there Joey!
Gun, that's lots of reason to spend deer season in Alberta...just a dadgummed monster. I'm not sure I could stay composed enough to put a good shot on one that big.

ray, put a 3ft fence around your feeder, will keep the hogs out, but the deer and turkeys will find their way into it no problem

I have twenty four feeders, goblism...it would take all my retirement money to put a three foot high fence around my feeders....and they're all getting hit that way too. That camera was up for 13 days this time...586 images....with a 1 minute delay
Michael,
Ray is probably trying to think of a way to keep the deer and turkeys out and let the hogs in! :biglaugh:
you make a good point than, if you want the hogs to get it, than not a big deal, just figure you would save in the long run on feed if you are only interested in deer and turkeys.

Curt, the Swine dancer sure is cocky now with his trick shooting!...he said he could clean Ray's place out if he got the chance.
I put down alot of salt this time of year. My best count is i have over 40 hogs at just this one salt lick......That would take Hogdancer 20 shots to kill all of them. You feeder boys supplement some salt and put in some fresh batteries!!

Great pics fellas.
Biggie you know I would be happy to carry your ladder stand around and set them up for you. Of course I would need to put one of my own up nearby in case you needed any help....
Ray, I`ve never seen Turkeys tolerate pigs like that...as close as those were anyway. Very cool stuff. Anybody thinking of a pig hunt with you should like those pics as well because they show your pigs are gonna be there before dark to feed.RC

OK, I am noticing that a lot of you are setting up your cameras in thicker cover than I am. Is that an accurate interpretation or are you zooming/editing pictures before you post them. I had thought to place the camera in a more open area to allow for a wider field of view. Is that a mistake?
Arrow k9,
first week of November, baby...I'm there.
RC- that's what I thought...and that's mostly why I stuck those pics in there...struck me as very different behavior...I also have deer hanging around with hogs...and I didn't think that happened much either.
I got so many daytime shots with pigs I just pulled the camera to put it somewhere I can get a buck on it.... I know they are coming in there for sure when hunters are around.
It happens alot. Marty could load this site up with hogs and turkeys in same pic. I think he has some bears and birds and a bear with hogs in south fl.
Ray,
I have not been able to get the bigboy on camera yet this year. The property owner did get a pic of him with a 35mm and a super telephoto lens.
Things will change by November.
Getting so many pics, it's hard to just pick out a handful to post!
Kind of a funky little bull. Almost appears to have a forked browtine on his right antler?

Great pics guys, I wish I could share some of my 35 to 40 good buck pics from OHIO but some scumbag cut my camera off the tree i had it on. Maybe the deer gods will come pay them with a visit this fall.
I hate to hear that Robert. That is on my mind the entire time my cameras are out.
Arrow K9 i think what bothered me the most was my 3 year old son Jeg was with me and we were both looking forward to seeing some more big buck pics and then as mad as i was i had to sit down on a log and explain to my son what had happened, then my boy looked at me and said i buy you another one at "belas" thats what he calls Cabelas. At that moment i forgot about my camera,we left and went to the local icecream shop.
TJ, that's a heckuva buck...shame his left leg is shorter than the right one.....
Thanks Biggie. That's why he must be on my wall. Can't have him passing on those genes haha.
Great Pictures
Sorry no huge antlers to show, but this is a cute little fella so I thought I'd share. Camera was only out 2 days and had 9 images of deer. (http://www.redarrowfilms.com/galleries/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=167&g2_serialNumber=1)

Looks like you have found a place to try out those new broadheads
Feather, i also got a pic of something that eats hogs! If i get'em hemmed up before the hogcowboys do , i'll get a hold of you.
Going to get the card out tonight. Also going to try to get some video in the fields as well. A little behind this year. Hopefully "big ten" is still alive. He was in the 170's last year. My partner did see a pretty good one last week that was in the 140's. I have pics of him under my stand last year. I'll report back later tonight.

That's a PORK-RICH environment for sure, right there!
Happy huntin'!
Shoot straight, Shinken
That second boar is slighly larger, I've had the second one in close and I'd guess he was 300+. The first one had some nice cutters though.
Great hog photos.
YYYYeeeeeessssss! That looks to be a fine buck KY-TJ!
Shoot straight, Shinken
Is it a bad sign if you havent caught a buck on camera yet this year? All I keep getting pics of are the does and fawns on the farm.
QuoteIs it a bad sign if you havent caught a buck on camera yet this year? All I keep getting pics of are the does and fawns on the farm.
Not at all. The bucks tend to group this time of year. It's simply a matter of having your camera in the right location. That may be on another part of your farm or could even be they are using only adjacent properties. It's just that time of the year.
New deer lease in northwest Louisiana (Bossier Parish)I put a camera on a game trail on a creek bank here is one of the first pics, my bother in-law sent it to me. (http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z105/robertwholloway/RobertsBigboar.jpg)
Dustin,
Don't worry if you are not getting Bucks. With lots of does, you can bet the old boys will be there in Nov.
Good bucks are off in their bachelor groups right now and best left alone anyway.
Son of Texas, what a cool looking pig. I can see that one hangin on the wall
my wife yells at me when I act like that hog is.
that one needs shooting just for showing off, Son of Texas! :biglaugh:
I'm going to start hunting him in a few weeks,
He does look cool. I'm going next weekend to put out some corn, hopefully he'll start coming in on a regular bases.

That's a hot little spot.
Lets just hope they stick close by after October :D
SonofTexas: That pig has one bummer of a birthmark!
Great pictures!
It`s shocking how many little ones a mama pig can raise.
I wonder if coyotes chase little pigs.
That one photo actually looks like the boar is stropping his cutters for future use
She's back for the 09 season. Another year older and wiser

Lets see. If each one of those pigs has a couple litters of 10 piglets and each of the piglets grow and have a couple litters of 10 piglets how many piglets would you have?
Seems to me that there are going to someday be to many piglets for the land.
A few from lasst weeks set-ups.

Dustin Waters,
This is a perfect example of deer trail use during different seasons. This camera has been up for 14days and this and a doe pic was all that was on the camera. During fall when the leaves start to fall the deer use this draw like a super highway.

"This is a really nice buck for the home ground"
Those 40% protein soybeans tend to have that affect on antler growth. Not to mention fertilized with emu poop.
EMU!? Think so? I've never seen one here before, but it doesn't look much like a turkey, does it? I just assumed...
Emus are very tasty. Big target too. Looks a little low to the ground though.
No actually I think it is a hen turkey.

damm.....bout 170 maybe. I have always been bad at guessing..
Oh my!
That is a gorgeous buck whatever he scores!! They don't come much prettier than that!
He's got great tine length including strong brow tines...not real wide...beams seem pretty long as they wrap around pretty good.....I'd guess...165+
Got any like that Mike? If so I'd like to put my order in bud :biglaugh:
I have a deer on my wall that looks very much like that. He went 173 before deductions, but the g3's and g4's are longer on yours. Real close to B/C.
Curt,
The Grey Ghost is not as long but a little wider.. and 14 points. No sightings lately.
Joebuck.......thats a dandy. The Mississippi Delta at its finest!!!
He can't be over 100 cause nobody from Mississippi can count any higher than that...
Joey, I'm DEFINITELY hunting with you this year!
Biggie, if a bunch of us MS boys get together and take off our shoes... not sure how many it would take...
DANDY!!!!!!!!
Joe..that is 160 symmetrical inches and still growing. You've got to put an arrow in that buck.
"He can't be over 100 cause nobody from Mississippi can count any higher than that" Biggie says.
Thats why we'll have to keep the Ole Miss /Tenn score this year under a 100 against the Foot soldiers from Noxiousville!!!!!
Hope the tornado didn't sux him up thursday!

Good! You know Kyle the thing that keeps our bucks the safest is all the doe/gun hunting and muzzle loading that the state now allows in Oct. Every Friday and Saturday and 16 of the 27 legal hunting days in October allow gun hunting for deer in some form. It does a good job of educating the bucks prior to the rut and has really effected daytime rut activity.
Plug, that buck on the right- I think you caught him in the act of something I've always suspected was possible but never had any positive proof of. I think he's in the middle of becoming invisible.
We have the same problem in my part of MS: 6 weeks or so of bow season, the first gun season, and into primitive weapon season before the rut gets going. By then bowhunting is extremely tough.
Glad we feel the same Plug. Too many "wanderers" these days in our little state. All these gun seasons make everyone think they're professional deer killers. Would love to get together and shoot sometime.
Plug,
You're going to have to start hunting at night then! lol. J/K. You wouldn't be the first one to accomplish that feat in Milton though! Nice, Nice bucks. Are the pics from Milton or somewhere else in the state?

River Otter
That's what I though but some co workers laughed and said I was crazy, they have never seen one and I've only seen one while duck hunting in central Louisiana. This is in northwest Louisiana.
Joebuck,
I was talking to one of your fellow club members monday and the way he talked, ya'll were very lucky. He said it went about 300 yards from the houses.
I was there!!! it came 1800' from our cabin..sounded like a Million ton Weedeater with snap crackle and pops..I had one camera tree sucked up and thrown 100 feet. Colvert still kickin....I never saw the tornado because i was looking east...I went out after it and shish ka bobed 80# shote. We now have a new 4oo acre cutover!.....dang,you showed him that deer didn't you?...
heck no.....i didnt show him that deer, i didnt even mention the deer. I did hear a farmer talking the other day really close to there saying he had seen a very good deer, he said to be 160" or better.
Son of Texas, otters will wander. I have a newly stocked 5 acre lake on my place, out in the woods. The nearest river is a mile away, and there are no large creeks in the area. I found otter sign there a couple of weeks ago. I hope he's still wandering! I don't need any help eating my fish.
Don...I think the wandering River Otter is the actual critter in 99% of "black panther" sightings. Black house cats are pretty common in most upland areas but not in the lower areas where a lot of "black panthers" are seen.
First decent buck behind my house this year. Got a bunch of lil ones.

Dark, but looks like a shooter.....
I've really been slacking and just hung my first camera out a week ago. This morning, a sow and her cub decided to pay a visit.....there's bears everywhere in Potter and Tioga counties this year and I half expected my camera to be torn up when I checked it this morning. Fortunately, I think she got a whiff of the rolled up dog hair inside the camera and decided not to eat it. :)

Who wants to go coon hunting? :)
South Central MO
I quit feeding the deer at home (or anywhere else) because of the coons. There are so many here that they're a problem, coming up on the deck and ransacking whatever they can find, digging up plants, etc. Recently one began raiding my bird feeder, even though it is strung on a rope between trees, at least 6 feet from the nearest one. I live-trapped him last night and hauled him 7 miles away to a good habitat.

Actually there changing from summer coat to fall coat, then there winter coat will fill in.
There summer coat is a reddish light tan color.
They might be doing some rubbing also.
Man, that is a beefy blacktail. Where did you say that was again? :knothead:
Good luck on him.

Ron,, that buck is "huge." His rack almost looks small on that body.. I am definitely waiting to see "Hero" pictures on that one. Good luck with him.

This is the "Big 7" from last year...terrible pic! This dang Moultrie keeps whiting out the first of the 3 shot burst! The second pix was a lot better and easy to identify him, but like a bonehead I deleted it by mistake :knothead:
He's an 8 now with a short G-3 on the end of his left antler now(again I could see it in the other pic).....

He's grown considerably!! (again easier to see what he's developed into in the deleted shot)
Guru ... I think Moultrie has a down loadable fix for the whiting out problem from their website. I have two of them and have not had the issue but have heard of it ...
I put the 2 cameras out Wednesday on differant trails that parallel a river

It's really hard to see the buck. He's the one to the far left. When I pulled the camera I was so mad that doe got in the way. I'll be checking the camera again on Fri. Hopefully we'll have a better photo of him.
And he's not the biggest one.
These were taken with a homebru digital cameras our buddy let us use. (Mike Parish-aka-missing impossible)He makes a great camera and they are instant. Thats why we got 2 pics in the same outing of the big boy.
The big blacktail came back through,at night of course,

The time on that trail cam looks you have a good chance. The best of luck with him..
had him come in at 40 yards last year int he early part of the season with the wheels( just started trad last season) and didnt take the shot because he was on alert. Never saw him again the rest of the season.Got him on my trail came opening day of gun season sneaking past my stand at 5:30 am. never saw him again till he shed his horns.Glad i didnt shoot him because he grew more mass and longer main beam. thanks for the encouragement guys.
Moved my Scoutguard home, to try to catch the high-wire act the coons have learned to reach my bird feeder. Failed at that, so I put it in the edge of the back yard to see what's happening. After 5 days I had 75 pictures! After weeding out the empty ones, I still had 55. The emptys were caused by setting it to take 3 at a time. Nothing but does and fawns, but these are the first fawn pictures of the year. Our rut is late- the does were bred in late December.

There's a little chunk of trace mineral salt to center them for pics, but other then that I don't feed them anything.
It was a wet spring and there's a ton of lush feed this summer, so Mother Nature has been generous to them.
see if this works, im computer illiterate. just put the camera out this week here is one that i thought was interesting check out the left beam/tine i wonder what happened there

The next best thing to a trail cam still pic is a handheld video. I was out trying to put some squirrels in the pot with a friend of mine and low and behold we look up and see a small buck. I turn the camera on and start filming. These three videos are in sequence. We were caught out in the middle of an opening and had to try and hide the best we could.

Dustin, I'd be losing sleep if I were you! What a beauty!!!!!! Can't wait till you tag him!
I had a dream the other day that I missed him with a muzzleloader. I saw the word "dream" loosely, and it was more like a nightmare. I didnt sleep the first week after I got video of him. I have trail cams all over the place on this property and never seen this deer. I have seen others that are in the P&Y category, but nothing toeing the 160 line. Last year I killed a P&Y buck and saw two others. This year I have seen zero of the deer I saw last year and this monster that I had never seen before. There is now a treestand on that path he walked by. October can not get here fast enough.
Here are some from my new DLC Covert. Looks like it's time to make some bacon.

John K. thats is one dandy deer... i just about spit beer everywhere when i seen those pics.. is that the same deer.. he sure looks different side profile!
Here is one that will make the grade for me this year. I nearly killed him last year. He has not grown too much, but this video is from July so he probably put on a little bit. Not realy wide, but good tine lenghth and you can see this when he walks away from the camera and turns his head sideways. His name is Crabby. (//%5Burl=http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n132/jonsimoneau/?action=view¤t=Crabbyvideo.flv%5D%20%5Bimg%5Dhttp://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n132/jonsimoneau/th_Crabbyvideo.jpg) [/IMG]

Don't think it's the same deer. Here are two from last year.
Is this the same deer?
Well after going about six weeks without so much as a 115 inches of antler on film. I am now looking at probably two and half times that in just two deer.
You all saw the video of the stud on the property. Then only a few days later I catch a cam pic of another really nice buck coming from that same direction.
Im putting him in the mid 130 range, but look at the length of those tines. I love it.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? One shot of a really nice buck for SC - this "whitening" of the pic only happens about 1 in every 300 or so pictures, and naturally it happens on THIS one!
You can just see his head- he's left of center, walking away from the camera, and that rack is really high!

Ray,
my moultrie does that once in a great while as well. The only thing I can figure is that the sun is in a position to "blind" the camera. My first few set ups with the camera produced too many of these, so I adjusted point of aim, and got better pics. I still get them once in a while, and wonder if moisture from a heavy dew covering the lense spreads light from the flash and whites them out....

Joey. Thats a fine buck. You gonna let Biggie Shoot AT him?RC
That's funny !,, Joey could'nt find this buck !
hogdancer, is that a Mississippi buck? They sure don't grow like that up here in the hills!
Man thats a GIANT spread. I can see why he's working the field, probably can't get through the trees!
GLENN
RC, if I shoot at him, you'll get to see some better pics that include my Swamp Rooter laying across him.
Oh yeah I forgot, you don't have a Swamp Rooter do ya???
yep, in the hills.
Good Gracious Thomas!! That is one huge framed buck!
Good luck buddy, if you kill him, you'll have to let me mount him for ya
Ray, the guya t stealthcam told me that when the IR cameras are set to the auto mode they sometimes have a hard time deciding which mode to use right at dusk and dawn. That can result in a washed out image if the camera uses the IR mode when the sun is still bright enough to use the regular camera mode.
Wow thats a slunger.
Thomas did you stick a 2 X 4 between his rack to make him grow so wide
hogdancer, I thought I wanted to hunt with Joey until I saw that picture. Now you're my new best friend!!
I hope to have an encounter with this guy. Got a glimpse of him back in July about 20 yards from my truck.

You have no idea. October 1 cant get here fast enough. I dont think I have ever had my broadheads sharpened and arrows made this early before. Usually its later in the year almost trying to rush it before the opening weekend. This year after seeing some of the bucks around things are in order and im just watching the clock tick by.
How do I get this bear to come earlier in the day?

DJP - its a full moon; and at that time its like daylight out. The moon phase changing will help.
A good size bear will be to the shoulder; nearly as tall as a 50 gallon drum.. not sure what size drum that is; but it looks like a relatively small bear.
The bait should be secluded enough that the bear can feel safe coming into it in daylight. If its a big open area; the bear will wait until darkness to come in.
I can't tell what your set up is; but ideally if you can find an opening in really dense cover about the size of an average tent - put your bait there.
You have an advantage with the camera; as to time and bear size- but there is something keeping the bear from coming in when you can get a shot. If this is a new bait- then maybe just give it some time.
Thanks Brian, that is a plastic barrel and it is over 48" tall, I have pictures of this bear 7 nights in a row. I would be really pleased with him/her.

I had a great time in Idaho this last week with Weitas Creek Outfitters. Ted, you missed a heck of a week with all the Bears! Unfortunately I had one shot and the Bear won. He'll be OK, Gary says. If I can only have it back! I had another Wolf encounter as well! Two trips, 5 Gray Wolves in bow range! What a rush! Here's a few pics of the critters. I just love this cam! Enjoy everyone!
This bait was 200 yards from camp! One collared dog. Notice them looking up towards camp!
These critters were busted removing sticks to uncover the bait! Gary! We need bigger logs!
I saw this Alpha the last morning sit! He half circled me and didn't come in for a shot. I picked up the cam 30 minutes after they left!
This Bear I never saw. He's still out there!

This one too! I called him "Patch"

Two medium rare and a borderline medium- not too shabby for South Carolina sandy soil.
Good Bucks Ray.Send one down this way.RC
we've got one that's 24 inches wide, RC but I can't get that joker on film....
I'd take that last one just cause of his body size!

Nice! Why ain't you in your treestand? lol
He had to wait till Saturday.
Corey, Our season opened Sept 5th. I went to the treestand that evening and got down 30 minutes later due to a bad wind. Wind was good on the evening of the 6th. I killed the deer in the second photo at 7:25 p.m. on the 6th. They came through every morning and evening on there way to and from a soybean field about a 1/4 mile away.
I think I found something to hunt...

Ahhh, life is good. Got this one today from sat. evening at 7:36pm. He's headed to the corn field to fatten up. This camera is under the stand that I shot my buck from this year. Those that read my story, this is the buck that came through at 0800. He's definately a good one. he doesn't know how lucky he was that day being I already had one down.

We had some gully washers and I didn't have my camera high enough. Never thought it would flood here. Took camera apart and cleaned it up as best as I could. pos. wire had come unsoldered. I tried turning it back on with it connected to the spot. NOPE, nothing. Can I send it back to moultrie for repair? My fault of course. Damn.. I loved this camera too.

Marty coming up to kill them for ya? ;)
Wow nice that's a bunch of bone Wayne.
They may spook deer a little more, but I sure like the flash photos better than the black and white no-flash. As expected, most of the mature buck photos are taken after dark. At least you know the're out there. Ha!
Biggie if those are decent ones i sure would like to see some of your big deer.

Incredible pictures 4 point. Love the lightning bolt. Chad
4-point, that pic with the lightning bolt would make a great wallpaper! Just stunning!
4-point that lightning bolt buck is the coolest picture i have ever seen.
I would name that buck Braveheart. Remember, William Wallace could shoot lightning bolts out of his @$$!
Wow what a beautiful buck 4point. How you get a crack at him. Is that a homebrew cam?
Lightning bolt is cool also. Had a buddy get one this year as well. Imagine the odds.
It's a Trail Mac, they take some great pic's but I don't know if they are still making cameras. My freind shot a 185" this year from where that pic was taken.

Where I should have been opening day. On public ground as I was brave enough to leave my camera until opening evening. This was opening morning...wooda shooda cooda. Older buck with ok horns. He better watch his six this weekend! :)

My Swedish hunting buddy came over here this fall to hunt; and bought some trail cameras to use: and to take home to use.
Well last week in Sweden; a man was fined for $2000 for using one on a game trail; as it falls under their law against surveillance.
In Sweden you can walk on anyone's property without permission; and even camp out the night. There are littering laws; but the land is ultimately the peoples.
So - there... putting a trail camera up is a violation of their laws...
odd thought huh?
On the other hand; I know when I am hunting- I have been real careful about where I use toilet paper these days!!
Biggie,
I'll be there the week before you. I;ll be sure to take pictures for you.
Gregg

Two bucks from last year...
The big 7...that's now an 8pt.....
The big "white horned 8" from last year as well....
These were taken about 5 yards from the treestand I put up to try to kill one of these two(or the 10pt. from last year, but I haven't seen any evidence of him yet)... of course both pix are at night!
But I was in there this evening and had a buck grunting chasing does right at dark....I'll keep my fingers crossed
That's a huge blackie Biggie!!
Here's a couple of a big guy I've been after the last 2 seasons - the first is him in velvet back in early September - the second is from a couple of weeks ago - just under my son's stand the night before he hunted it.
My first year messing with a trail cam - I've always been a low tech guy - but it is pretty cool.

Pretty cool Earl.
There's a huge white oak tree raining nuts right here and 40 yards to the right is a corn field that was picked a week or so ago and the deer are flooding into this spot. I walked through this little wood lot and the amount of rubs in there was amazing.

Mqqqse: go down to wally world and pick up some camo netting. Replace the screens in one window in each room in your house with the netting. Since you can shoot thru it you can watch the Sunday foodtball games and hunt at the same time. Just keep your bow near the TV!!!!

I like the quality of pics with my new Wildview cam.
Jim, Which Wildview is it? I've heard good things about the EZ cam...and less than $100
It is the Infrared Exreme. It shoots AVI vids and stills with no flash. It triggers a little slow but properly placed it takes some good pics.

And they are finally starting to attract the boys:

If they ever show up in the daylight the plan will come together!
Nice Gregg
Bucks sparring. Coolest pics I've got yet. Wish quality was better.

Ben, Did you get a pic of the buck in front of this one? He's got his nose tipped down, ears laid back, and his rear-end lowered. Classic aggressive stance...
He's got another buck in his sights!
Heck, this is the first time I've seen this pic! I think the guys are holding out on me. Don't worry Ben/Rob, I already killed my buck.lol Curt, That buck is standing on an old, grown up logging road about 15 yards from one of our stands. Could be another buck in front of him but he did not cross the path of the camera. Good observation on his posture. This is the 2nd pic of this buck from this stand site. Ben and Rob are hunting the area and Rob has seen the buck in daylight hours. The 1st pic(which Ben accidentally deleted) was in daylight and Ben was in another stand. Story of our life, should have been here yesterday.lol Hopefully one of the guys will get a shot off in the next couple of days......or one of the kids might get a dandy when youth season comes in the 21st. We will be shutting the area down after this weekend to give it a rest before the youth season comes in.
Come on guys, I want to do some draggin!!!!!
The big bucks haven't crawled out of the woodwork near my stand yet, and mostly moving at night. Kind of funny, I put out a few apples and some buck jam and these mountain deer haven't even stopped to sniff it. Guess they don't associate it with food!

Looks like he's getting there Ed!
Washington is a sleeper state for big bucks. There are some really good genetics floating around.
It is too bad you can only shoot one deer a year. One of the few states you can hunt Whitetails, Blacktails, and Mulies.
This one is right here in town Chris.
I hear you are over on the wet side now. Give me a holler if you ever get over this way.
Ed
Ed,
That is my son...he is in one of the engineer units. I am back down in Fort Benning, GA where the deer and hogs roam.

Biggie, Is that the one holding you back from telling about your Ohio hunting trip?
Dat looks like one of his stands on our club...and one worth shooting in 2-3 years. I mean that's what I think that would look like if I knew where his stands were that is. Good pic Biggie.
Chris, that's a fine lookin buck for S.GA. I'd drop the string on him in a blink.
Is this old girl trying to tell me somethig? Wonder what's on her mind?

This is my first trail cam pic. I had this guy at 25 yards a couple days earlier but needed him to take one more step. Needless to say he didn't take it. I'm sure he is still in there,
(http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/horatio1226/gamecameracornerfield015.jpg)
Hope having this buck sneak by my treestand on Friday the 13th will bring me good luck! Been getting lots of little bucks, but this is the first BIG buck. Hope he hangs around and comes back in a week during the daylight!
When I first saw this pic I thought the snow flakes had set off the camera. But after looking closer I spotted some elk behind the flakes.
One of the cows came by a little closer a minute later to confirm it.
Hey Biggie,
At least you have a picture.
snow and elk, two things we don't have here in s.c.
I posted this picture in another thread but thought it should be here.

But usually end up with one like this that likes to travel in teh daylight hours
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/yohon/MDGC0051.jpg)
Caught this guy on camera last night. Haven't seen one all season. I usually see a few...never had one on camera. For those that don't recongize it it is a Fisher also called a Fisher Cat by some.
Great picture. We have them here they say but I have never seen one.
Yow! is that one from outer space??
Terry, that's great, love that picture ! Got to be in TX with the feeder and the pear.
Too cool !!
My money is on the coon!
Reminds me of the story Jerry Clower tells about the dog they lost that was fighting the coon, and they both got hit by a train during the fight. The owner was in tears. His buddy says "It alright, because we got a good litter of pups from him, so the blood line will go on." (words to that effect)
"No, it's not that..." "Then what's wrong then?"... "That poor dog is gonna go to his grave thinkin' that coon killed him!"
Terry I like it. I need to rent that hog for about two months.
Looks like doe doesn't want to share.
Terry, is that picture for real? An amazing shot if it is. These days it's so hard to tell. I was curious about what seems to be corn on the pig's back and in the air.
Jaw dropper of a blacktail...
As far as I know it is real Don....and he'd definitely under a feeder.
Bill, that boy looks love sick! :bigsmyl:
My friend Todd (birdbow on here) emailed these pics from his camera. They are 12 yards from his stand. Now he just needs to get the AM/PM thing reversed. First, the eight pointer.
Now the 10.
Bill
I keep staring at that stick, but I can't see what is so interesting...however, I'll buy it!
R
Wow! That blacktail is the real mack daddy around those woods I'll bet. Looks like he's headed out to see the ladies.
here is one of the brutes I've been chasing all fall, too bad I was sitting some where else that day (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2797/4133422159_9d6ff991e3.jpg)
Ryan: I think Todd uses some sort of urine or attractant. I am not totally sure but he told be a while back he gets estrous doe pee from some deer farm/scent maker???? Really don't remember where he said he got it but the name was not familiar to me. Definitely not one of the brand names. If I am not mistaken he previously had a mock scrape right there where his camera is pointed.
Got a pic of this guy the other day. Best one I've seen in a few years.
Nice looking buck there Chris. Looks like he has company in the back ground. Hope you get a shot at him how has your season been thus far. Joe
Ryan: I checked with Todd last night. He had made a mock scrape there a while back with regular doe pee from Timber Valley scents (tvfreschscents.com). He told me he has pics of 10 different bucks doing the same thing as in these pics. However, NH is big woods and these deer have lots of room to roam and are very difficult to pattern.
This treated 4x4 post has been getting a workout the last couple weeks. I had a trailcam on it for a week to see what the culprits looked like. There were quite a few more, so I hi-graded a few to post.

I spent a lot of my career working with wood preservatives. I'd sure like to know what that post is treated with! Any idea, tree killer??
While working as Development Manager for a wood protection company, we put out stake tests at a university to test new preservative formulations. Deer ate one of them, but ignored the others. The one they ate had lots of salt in it, but to my knowledge there are no commercial formulations like that because of corrosion problems that would require a stainless steel plant, which is too expensive to be practical.
Tree Killer,
Those pic`s are awesome! :bigsmyl:
Don...I don't know what they're treated with, but it has a slightly oily odor. Bucks rub on these posts every year, but I wasn't sure if one particular buck laid claim to it or if multiple bucks were using it as a community rub. Some of my questions have been answered.
Thanks buck-eye!
Here's a few more of the road signs that have been ground on by bucks over the years.
Looks like pentachlorophenol carried in a heavy hydrocarbon solvent, i.e. #4 diesel fuel. That's the most common formulation on the "Left Coast", and it has that smell. Back east, #2 diesel is a more common solvent, and I don't think the bucks like it as well.
Wait 'till the buck lure people hear about this!
If you shoot one of those bucks, don't smoke around his head!
YA GOT ANY BEAVER IN THE AREA :p
That gives new meaning to road hunting :biglaugh:
Pulled this trailcam because I wouldn't have much time to check it very often. But I did get some cool pics at the ole rubbing post last week.

I posted this on the "Your goals for 2010" thread. I got a photo of this big gal in '06.
Missed an opportunity at her last year. I had not seen her while hunting or on my camera this year and figured someone else got her. Checked my camera card when I got in tonite and there she was. Can you say, "BIG doe"?????
I never thought I would see a "COW" whitetail...Bill I have now...
I think I know where one of her distant relatives is.

Dang!! If either of you are so fortunate to take one of those does please put her on a scale and report the weight. I know they are out there but a true 150+ field dressed doe is a rare beast and I think there are two posted in the threads above.
Bobby: That's the plan. But she lives in a swamp you cannot walk thru and most of the land around my property is posted. I am going to work on clearing a small food plot next Spring in an attempt to pull a few deer over to my place. My neighbor has a plot and only shoots bucks so I need to put in a bit of sweat equity and make the food plot. Planting something tasty should increase the odds a bit.
Bill Make sure you plant some Kale when it gets frosted you can't keep the deer out of it you have to chase the little one away with a stick.

Earl: I am going to use the shotgun approach to the food plot. Winter rye, NO PLOW, clover, kale, chicory (deer around here love chicory), etc. Can't get heavy equipment in there so it will be chain saws and sweat.
Bill, when I was out in Illinios the deer could not leave the turnips alone, they put then with clover in their food plots. I watched them eat turnips for 3 days.
This deer stayed bedded down right in front of the camera even though the flash went off about 25 times in 3 hours
(http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z267/horatio1226/cedargrove022.jpg)
Ron: I have turnips in my field at the house this year. First time I tried them. So far they do not seem to be interested. We'll see how it goes throughout the winter.
Nice pics...one (or ANOTHER) whopper of a blacktail.
Bill
I put turnips out back of the house and they didn't fool with them although they hammer them at Dad's place in IA. Don't know why. My best luck in small plot (though mostly early season because it will freeze off) is the buckforage oats. Cheap, easy to plant (broadcasts nicely) and the nannies just MOW it around here (and I'm in agricultural country with plenty to eat).
R
Ryan: I have never tried oats. But I am always willing to experiment so i will try some at the house. When do you find in the best time to plat it?
Bill
I put them in late Aug or early Sep. If you have moisture they'll come up in 2-3 days. They never go to grain and the deer eat the grassy leaves. I put them in too early one year and the stand got up to like 10 inches and seemed less attractive.
When I get a chance I'll post some pics to this thread from that plot this fall. (I'm stuck in Ireland now)
R
