Title: Who claims Terrace B.C as their stomping grounds?
Post by: V I Archer on January 14, 2009, 04:49:00 PM
After 28 years (my entire life!) of living, working, and hunting the rock, new oppourtunity has emerged.  I will be relocatiing to Terrace B.C for an exciting new job opportunity.  I have never lived outside Victoria, and have only hunted off the island twice (Cranbrook, can't wait to return, and Vanderhoof). If there are any fellow trad archers who know the area and would be willing to share some local knowledge it would be much appreciated.  I can't wait for the spring to begin chasing bears, and will most certainly be pursuing goats in the fall.

Also, I have yet to secure housing for myself, my sweetheart, and our adorable crate trained beagle.  So if you know of any homes for rent in the area, that too would be appreciated.

V I Archer, my father spends about seven months out of the year living in Terrace. He fly fishes for chinook and steelhead the majority of the time. Unfortunately he is a nonresident alien, so he won't be hunting anytime soon. That said, Terrace and the river systems around the town is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Colorado on steroids! I have been told that it is 95% public land. When I was there two years ago in May,there were black bears all over the place. A bowhunter friend of mine who lives there Matty, who is a tradgang member, said that the clear cuts were the place to hunt the bears. Also, I was able to experience many mountain goat sighting and found out later that some of the finest goat hunting in all the world is right outside Terrace. If I could stumble upon a great job as you have, I would leave the states in a minute and venture north. I would miss the elk, that's about it. If you love fishing and you have never fished up there, look out, unbelievable! Many Blessing, hopefully someone else will chime in and offer you some more details. T

I have only visited Terrace in 05 when I was on a goat hunt. Beautiful place and what T said about the fishing is all true. Some of the biggest goats in North America come from the Coast Mountain region as well. Your a lucky man!

Terrace has a growing archery club called the Terrace Whiskey-Jack Archers. During the winter we shoot indoors every sunday. And mothers day week end in May is our annual 3D shoot, Smithers (2 hours up the road) has their shoot in late April and Prince Rupert has their shoot first week end in June. So lots of shooting opportunities. A large percent of the local club is Traditional. As for spring blackies and fall goats lots of opportunities all over the place. So when you get in, stop by the "Thornhill Community Center" on any Sunday from 1pm till 4pm and bring yout stick and string.  I have been here since 1989 so am starting to know the place....I'll tell some of the secrets...not all but some.
