Dagnabit! Gene and Barry were on TV tonight, Mossy Oak Classics, and I was down in the shop making a skinny string and missed the first half of the show! I did get to see each of them take a buck with their recurves, but I sure would have liked to see the whole show. It's great (and rare) to see someone hunting with traditional equipment, especially fellow Tradgang members! I sure hope they run that one again!
What channel were they on, I really enjoy it when they get a chance to see them 2 on TV.
Glenn
I watched it on the Outdoor Channel, it was pretty cool!
I miss my dish and dvr!! :banghead:
Glad to see that Barry put down "old split ear" before he could harm any more innocent children:^)
It was on three times in one day. I managed to dvr the second showing. I'm saving it until I get my dvd recorder fixed. Good stuff.
I recorded it. Watched it three times already. Gene and Barry are a class act with some good humor thrown in. They do a good job of representing our sport.
They showed their web site on the bottom of the screen at the end does anybody remember it?
ckanous...they have been Sponsors here for years and are on the Sponsors List.
Are you kidding me??? We have Jimmy Johnson's crew cheif in here!!!
:biglaugh:
No cable here, I'd love to see some "new" TV work by the Wensels; I've got all the VCR and DVD stuff memorized...
:clapper: Good one SteveO
Valuable info also!! I had an old buck who saw me in my tree last year but now that I know Barry's hat trick I'm sure to kill him next year. :jumper: Joe
I recorded it.I couldn't get off the phone.
Gene and Barry www.brothersofthebow.com (http://www.brothersofthebow.com)
I hope I'm not breaking TOU here but since we are talking about the wensels I hope not.
It was a fantastic episode, and the brothers were very friendly and comical. A nice change from the whack'em and stack'em kinda crowd on tv. I wish they had more with them.
If you never saw or missed the episode here is a free link.
mossy oak: hunting the country "Two for Texas"
http://www.mossyoak.com/media/video.aspx#mediaPlayer
it looks like their video player is down, probably check back this evening.
Anyone know when that was recorded... I think I saw Barry's hunt showed 1996...
Just curious because it looked like they were shooting Snuffers rather than the Woodsman...
Jonathan
I caught it just in time to see them both take their bucks. Wish I had seen the whole show and hope it repeates in the near future.
My sweetie isn't in to archery but as soon as I said the "Ramblin Rednecks" are on TV she knew exactly who I was talking about...PR
I saw the show as well. It was great watching people on TV who In my opinion are the cats meow!! Great stuff you Wensel boys, I might just dig up my tape of Bow Hunting October Whitetails and watch that one again.
Twigflicker- I too thought the broadheads looked like Snuffers.
If you go to that website you have to choose an episode (ie: click on it) to view it. It's working. I don't know if that current episode is up yet but if you type Wensel in the search feature, the twins have several episodes there to see.
I was there in Montana with the guys that week in '96. I've actually hunted out of that stand that Barry killed the buck from. Since Cuz was there alone and they only had one camera, he showed the deer when Barry shot. I just wanted you guys to know that he made one helluva shot on that deer. He had to reach around that big cottonwood and shoot behind him. 22 yards and he drilled him. The camera didn't show that there were about 20 other deer there all staged up to go to the alfalfa at dark.
He's my hero.....
Biggie, and you were there too! They must've been filming that episode with a wide angle lens!
Yeah but between the 4 of us, we all agreed that Gene had the widest load.........
The one I searched and found was 2004 "Two for Texas"... still pretty neat! They'd have to be neat to hang with... :)
Thanks for posting the link Pigmy. It is awesome to be able to watch these guys in action.
How privileged we are to have the likes of Gene, Barry, Biggie, Charlie, Ron, Rob, O.L., and many others as members of our forum. Not only do we have friendly, helpful, informed members, we have some of the legends of our sport right here. I truly appreciate how willing they all are to teach and associate with those of us who will never be legends but who simply love traditional archery and bowhunting. Thanks!
I only caught the second half also. Very neat! :notworthy:

Thank you guys for all the positive feedback. We appreciate it and I'm sure Mossy Oak would love to receive positive feedback too. Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland, as well as the entire Mossy Oak crew, does an outstanding job. A recent talk with Cuz has revealed there is buzz of a Mossy Oak strictly bowhunting TV show being considered to involve Gene and I somewhere down the line. I know absolutely everyone probably won't agree, but I've always been proud to do shows with Mossy Oak because of their attitudes. They've truly always tried to portray hunting in the proper light. And for that I think we owe them a big thank you. The power of national television is unreal so I really hope this comes together as a huge positive for our sport. BW
The Wensel brothers are multi-taskers supreme. I've watched them as they popped up a blind, ate cookie crumbs, kicked dirt, argued with each other, and all as they simultaneously carried on a conversation with me about how people talk in Kentucky . . . sheeeeeeeee!!! God love-em.
Barry, if you and Gene are going to be on it, it will become my new favorite show for sure. I agree, the Mossy Oak crew generally does a good job, especially Cuz. I hope they include a healthy dose of traditional in their bow hunting show. I know you and Gene will, but other than Fred Eichler (sometimes) and Tred Barta, it is rare to see a stick bow on television. When one does appear on one of those other shows and the hunter makes a kill it is usually a good buck "for a recurve." That last part just irritates the heck out of me, especially knowing some of the deer you and Gene have taken.
Thanks! You do a great job representing us all. Now I gotta go back to Mossy Oak and watch some more video of the twins!
Oh, I meant to mention Cuz said for those who missed the show that was aired yesterday, it will be broadcast again on April 14th at 8 AM 5:30 PM and 11:30 PM Eastern times. Thanks again. bw
I loved it. Much better than most of the crap that they call Hunting Shows these days.
Hello, Barry. I enjoyed the show so much I've watched at least 4 times over yesterday and today. I was just wondering, what are the chances of the Brothers of the bow releasing another instructional dvd. I still watch October Whitetails but I'm in need of an update. Thanks.
Yup those two need more air time..Very enjoyable..
TradOnly- We are in the process now of editing and producing our next video with Wensel/Mitten Productions. We hope to add an instructional component to its varied theme. Of course this would be separate from anything Gene and Barry are doing with Mossy Oak. Thanks, Mike
Mike,
Thanks for that info. It'll be eagerly awaited.
I'm with everyone, wish we had more traditional shooting on the shows. Love to meet the Wenzel brothers sometime.
Well that was cool. Just watched it online. I missed it on tv! Good show.
We need more Trad only hunting shows.
I've got the time and would really be interested in being involved in one sometime in the future.
The Mossy Oak crew are one of my favorites.
Just watched it on line. Very good.
Mike, Primal Dreams is my personal favorite, best video I've ever watched, hands down. If the next one is half as good,it will be excellant. I can't wait! You guys do great work!! Thanks Jason
Herdbull, that's great news. I can't wait. Granted, I still have to buy Masters of the Barebow 2, but I'll definitely be impatiently awaiting this new dvd. Thanks for the info.
Not to take this thread off track, but if you liked the romantic feel of the Wensel/Mitten's Primal Dreams DVD, and can't wait for the next film, then you may enjoy my new book "One With The Wilderness" ( Passions of a Solo Hunter ). It's about my journey toward self-reliance and hunting alone; which was a major point in Primal Dreams and includes some of the behind the scenes stories to what you saw on film. It has been printed (334 pages w full color images) and is currently being hard-cover bound. I will have information and ordering very soon on brothersofthebow.com (Sponsors). Thanks for your interest, Mike.
Thanks for the heads up Herdbull!! Sounds like it will be a good read!
