seem like any more every bodys either shots carbon or alluminom does any body out there still shoot good ol wood arrows thanks
sure do and wont shoot anything else :archer:
I still like to shoot cedars. Nothin like good wood. ;)
yup i do plus i shoot the others as well somtimes i put 3 of each in the quiver and the first one that comes out gets shot. good fun
Heck ya, all the time.
I do, nothing like a wood arrow. They are just plane good looking no matter what is done to them, plus they smell good and half the fun of shooting is the building of them. Not much life in a metal or carbon factory stick.
I prefer wood arrows over everything else. Nothing has the feel of a wood arrow. They have personality!!! I love to make them. I probably have 10-12 dozen woodies laying around my man-room, that I've made for myself!
Just wood.
Wood. Sometimes grass (Rivercane, Bamboo). Never have shot carbon, and for me, I really don't see any need to.
Dennis
There is just something about wood that does for me. I like the way it shoots from my bow, it's more quiet and sounds better in the quiver too.
I have made the switch to wood POC, But I still have and still shoot Easton classics and legacys, when they die I'll be all wood.
I just can't seem to bring myself to shoot carbons. Sorry guy's, I know they are faster, straighter, tougher, etc etc etc......I just can't do it.
I consider myself an equal oppurtunity arrow flinger! I still like to shoot woodies sometimes however it seems I am shooting carbons more than the others the last few years.
Good ole' wood and nothing else.
Just wood for me.
The other materials are fine; but I just plain prefer working with wood, and shooting wood arrows, wood has warmth and life to it.
WOOOOOD
Wood has life. A big part of the enjoyment of shooting wood is the care and effort to craft a good set. I do have some aluminum but don't shoot them much.
Nothing but wood here.
I love POC's... ONLY wood out of my longbows.
JDS III
Still do and dont plan on changing either.
Nuthin' like a wood arra!
Eric
Someone did a poll on here just last week on that question. If I remember correctly, wood accounted for about 40% of the arrows folks use, carbon just a little less, and aluminum less yet. (My recollection may be faulty. If so, someone correct me.) It seems carbon may be taking a bigger bite out of the aluminum market than it is out of the wood market, at least for now. All the materials have their advantages and disadvantages. I've been shooting wood for more than 50 years. Think I'll stay with it.
i sure do. and going to keep on shooting them
Just started shooting carbon Jan. 08 after about 7 yrs. of trad, but still have a passion for wood.
KYArcher
Only wood arrows for me.
I shoot all three. I like wood the best, but when school is on, I just don't have a lot of time to make woodies, so I shoot carbon or aluminum, depends on what the bow likes the best. Wood is quiet and forgiving. The forgiving part can be a bad thing. I can get away with plucking the string a bit more with wood, so I shoot aluminum or carbon to work on my form. Any bad habit shows up a lot quicker with carbon.
Nothing but wood!
Wood arrows here, have been shooting a few aluminums, but hunt with the woodies!
Wood. Just finished my first dozen - surewood doug fir shafts. I have some aluminum but will shoot the wood now I think.
I even used wood in our Traditional DART league last year. When broke, wood smells better then the rest :D
Wood. There's a real romance with wood that you don't get with the man-made stuff. It just feels better.
Joe
thanks guys for your input any body shoot laminated birch i heard its real durable
Nothin' else!
Wood. I have 1 dozen aluminum shafts purchased as an experiment that sit around. I even have a bow that really shoots them better than any of my wood arrows. But the wood arrows have a life or a spirit or something that aluminum just doesn't have. Can't really explain it. And in the words of my archery mentor, I'm not "shooting conduit." I really dislike the way they 'clink' when they bang into each other.
RonP
Yipper Paul Jalon specials through Ron LaClairs shop. They fly real nice out of the ACS and soon out of my Shrew when we get her figured.
Jer Bear
COONCRZY - The toughest wood arrows I've shot have been hickory shafts followed by maple shafts. I haven't shot ipe, but hear that they are tough. Ash are also a good choice. Tapered shafts on the nock end are best for these hardwoods....
I'm working on a dozen wood arrows in the basement now. Will start the next dozen right after that.
Can't wait to shoot them.
Me too!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just a woodchucker..... ;)
I like wood and cane arrows best
They're the only thing I shoot (for the last 20yrs.) Ive shot all the others, and yes they to perform somewhat better-something you have to consider if you're B.Fer. trying to slip an arrow thru a finger ring--but for most of us mortals they don't make alot of sense--kind of like having an F-18 when the only thing you'd ever flown is a kite. Wood arrows perform up to the level that 99% of the out there will ever reach. The real bottom line for me, though is that those other "airs", just ain't GOT NO SOUL. Hey, whatever floats your boat.
cedars quiet and smell good when working
Ahhhh...there is just something about wooden arrows! Nothing says trad. like wooden arrows.
I shoot all wood, too. Coon, I like the lam birch. What spine are you shooting, might have a few you can try. Where in IL are you?
I shoot carbons from my Savannah. But I also own a yew Blacktail longbow. It seems almost unnatural to use anything other than woodies with this bow. I now have a Blacktail recurve on order. That bow will also be fed nothing but wood arrows.
Nothing smells better than a freshly broken cedar.
If I could shoot good enough to shoot woodies without breaking them all of the time, I would. My carbons fly great and they are pretty tough also.
I like wood

Heck yeah people still shoot wood arrows, I shot a nice hog this last weekend with a wood arrow. :archer:
I shoot wood arrows. Love the smell of cedar..
I just made the switch from carbons for a special hunt I've got in the works. I love my carbons, but these tapered hickories sure are nice. The mojo they carry almost seems to hit as hard as they do...
My fav bows and POC arrows

Nothing beats wood!
woods 4 me....
I shoot carbon now but I really want to try wood. I shot wood arras when I was a boy 40 yrs. ago. As soon as i can get the funds together and can figure out what spine I need im going to get the things I need to craft my own. I cant wait to shoot wood again.
Me.
Wood forever! :D
wood for me
I have a 30-1/2" draw and had problems finding good quality woods that worked for me, so reluctantly switched to goldtips some years back. They're functional and worked fine, but I've always missed the woodies. Then last year I discovered Surewood Douglas Fir shafts out of Oregon! I leave their 23/64, 32" shafts full length, and with a Hunter Taper they'll outperform my carbons...quieter, more forgiving and hit consistently higher at anything past 30 yds. Wood for me!
Dave
Wooden bows and wooden arrows go together well so that's what I shoot from the bows that I make... I still have some 2117s around and I shoot them from my fibreglas bows. Never tried carbons.
POC for me.
I have a few carbons that get shot for stumps, but wood is the choice for hunting.
Tapered ash here  :archer:

Wood only for me and the wife  Joseph
I do! I also shoot carbon.
me. I shoot wood. Though when I go stumping I like to take cheap #bay aluminums.
I looovvveee woodies shot out of a wood bow. They go together like chocolate and ice cream!
Wood exclusively here.

nothing like a nice piece of ash..actually i shoot POC love em and hate em. not always straight but very forgiving. besides carbon dust doesnt have the aroma of POC
POC's love 'em. Nothing like wood arrows out of wood bow's. Tried aluminum and carbon, wood works best for me.
Daren
My bow is wood, my arrows are wood and the place I hunt is not artificial either!
The ambience and romance of a walk in the forest cannot be beat!
Not yet, after what I paid for the carbons that I got I need to use them first. But ever time that I go some place that sell wooden arrows I look at them and they look some much neater that what I have. Oh well someday.
oh yeah there nothing better
Yep.

Wood arrows. I try not to get to attached to them 'cause they break, but love the feel and making them.
This thread was a nice reminder. I have a new bow coming sometime soon so I placed an order this afternoon with Suzanne St. Charles for two dozen POC arrows.
Traditional Only? Heck Wood Only! Makin up a few dozen ash and hickory. Hard wood hits harder!
I enjoy making them as much as shooting them , Fred
Hi All,
My winter project is finishing up four dozen woodies....eighteen with broadheads, and thirty with field points! These will probably last for the next three or four years and will be all I shoot.
Make and shoot my own woods only for the past year.
Nothing but woodies out of my Hill bows! Got Jason at Howard Hill making me a dozen right now to go with my new bow being made at the same time.
Wood goes with wood
I tried aluminum for a while, but wood is all I use these days. I like to keep things simple.
Joe
I'm a POC man. Hap
Nothing but wood anymore.
Are there other types of arrows?
Me too!
Only wood!
Me too!! :campfire: Nothing wrong with the others, I just love the process of working and making up wood arrows. Feel like I put a little bit of myself in each one. When I make a harvest with one, just makes that moment a little more special. :) Even more so if I use something a friend has made me!
Raven >>>>--------->
I like keeping the tradition alive and with longbows and recurves that would be wood. I also love building them and every dozen are different plus you can change them some with fletching and cresting and I like to do that.
Just seems natural shooting wood arrows from longbows and it sure is fun making them, gives me more satisfaction in taking an animal with a handcrafted wood arrrow.
John
I started out shooting wood, then started shooting carbon. Carbons are great, but I'm going back to wood for awhile. It's fun to build them, and I'm not so sure carbon is really any more accurate. Carbons may actually be cheaper in the long run, but then again I don't really know.
The trouble with wood is finding quality shafting in the first place.
Has anyone experiemented with using heavy FOC with wood arrows?
I do out of my self bows always...and my longbows at times.
I like the nostalgia, the look, the feel, and the smell of cedar. I like the toughness of hickory. Wood is just plain fun. Nothing against aluminum, either as I have shot it a lot, but as stated above, there is warmth to wood. Never tried carbon.
