Title: Bow Blanks
Post by: D.A. Davis on January 12, 2009, 04:55:00 PM
Does anybody have any information on Bow Blanks?  I'd like to find a company that sells them for individuals to finish themselves.  Thanks.

Hey D.A.,
I know there are alot of bowyers that have blanks available. I shoot HH bows and know that he has a very nice blank for reasonable money. Iffen you like that type of bow, many don't. Check his website if you want more info. All you need to do one is a file and sandpaper, then finish it to your preference. They are tillered and all you have to do is cut the shelf and finish the string nocks. Check them out, they are pretty cool.

Old Master Crafters sells them, along with lam's and riser woods, etc....

They always bring a few to the show in Kalamazoo every January.

I have handled a few; they are nice, and around $200 to $250, if I remember...

They don't have a website; you have to do some net research to find their number.  I believe they are somewhat north of Chicago.

Take Care,
Marc

Thanks guys.  I looked at the Dryad website before posting, and I did like what I saw.  I was only asking to look at what options there are.  You know that a traditional bow is a very personal thing.  You have to find the one that's right for you.

I'm in no hurry.  I was doing research for  later this Spring.  I've got an MRI scheduled for Thursday, and shoulder surgery shortly after that.  I shot traditional for 25 years, but suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery in 2000.  I was not able to shoot traditional after the surgery.  Now, 9 years later, my shoulder has deteriorated to the point that I can't shoot a compound, but the surgeon tells me that he can fix it back to where with some physical therapy, I could go back to traditional equipment.  I look forward to it.

D A, I highly recommend Dryad bows. You have your choice of all natural materials or a glass blank bow. I have built both. Their instructional vidio is top notch (almost professional). If you can make it to Ojam this march, you will leave there with a bow made to your personal specs, that you will be very proud of(there is always an "Arkie" camp at Ojam).
There are alot of bowyers out there that offer blanks, but Dryad offers the best instruction that I know of...............Terry
