I have a Shrew recurve that has snake skins on the back and they are getting a tad faded. Is there anything I can do to get the color to show or maybe make them darker that won't hurt the bow or cause the skins to come lose? Any good advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doug...
Montana Pitch blend works well. Might darken them a bit. Will keep the skins soft so a lot less chance of peeling or cracking..
Thanks Froggy, I will have to try it. I guess I would have to be careful about anything I use on it because there is a chance that some things could cause the skins to loosen or come off?
Don't the skins already have a finish on them? The finish itself could be wearing off. A couple of light coats of spray varnish will bring back a little of the lustre. Paste wax would do the same, but won't last as long.
Contact Bob Morrison and he will give you some good advice. He's "The Man" when it comes to skins. He's a sponsor on here.
I've also used Montana Pitch blend with good results.
I use Caseys gun oil.
I don't think you want to apply anything that will soften the skins. Snake skin backing is very delicate and will tear easily. More than likely you need to refurbish the finish.
