It's that time of year again, most hunting seasons have closed and here in Ohio archery season is winding down :( . Also the weather is pretty nasty around here at this time of year, cold and rainy :help:
:campfire: Tradgang
When hunting season ends, bow building season begins. When bow building season ends, back to hunting season.
I enjoy getting out in the woods this time of year looking for deer sign and for next years stand sites, soon shed hunting and just getting out no matter what the weather is. Pat
The best thing about retirement, other than being paid for breathing, is that when the Wyoming winter sets in, we now head for warmer climes. We will be in Arizona until mid March, then head to Texas to hunt javelina, then back to Wyoming in time to catch spring turkey season. Getting older has its advantages :) !
This is the time of year that I catch up on some of the reading I've neglected. I currently have a couple of hunting books and several magazines sittng on my shelf that I haven't yet read.
Then, of course, this is the time of year to study the state game pamphlets and fill out applications for any out-of-state hunts one may be planning for next fall.
I'm sorry I don't know what your talking about, I'm on my why to go hunt some hogs :goldtooth:
Getting ready for fishing, tying bugs and preping gear. I shoot in my garage and basement and will also concentrate on the "Honey Do List" so when turkey/trout season comes i'll be ready to go!
Snowshoes, cheap arrows, good Scotch, Ibuprofen.
I'm with kingwouldbe, not pigs but been chasing bobcats.
I dig a path in the snow to my bag target so I can at least still do a little practicing.

Buckeye, Man I am in the same boat.I built A 30 by 80 garage to get me out of the house.Shame I didnt get it completely finished before it got nasty out.Got to put a ceiling in it to hold the heat in.There will be a man fort inside plus a archery range down the one side. The next three months drive me nuts, countin the days till the bass start hitting.
Head to texas fishing next month.

Buckeye,
Read a lot, snow shoeing, shoot in the basement, bunny hunting, visit Trad Gang, dream of all the past hunts, oh and work to pay for all those things I need for next years hunting. Keep the spirit up, spring is on it's way:)

But seriuosly I just get out in it more..It's still tough at minus 30 and colder so I shoot in my shop at work. Otherwise I love to get on my horse and tour around inthe snow finding things to shoot at.

I watch veoh and a few others free videos.
They have lots of shows about primitive tribes. I am watching the hadza tribe hunt dik dik with their bows in africa on my other screen right now.
and LOL with jesse.
After bow season ends at the end of next month I'll be fishing bass tournaments pretty heavy.
I do not miss snow or cold weather at all. Had enough of that in Alaska to last my lifetime.
Up here in snowy cold western new york this how I spend my free time in the Winter:
1. Shooting with a group of friends every Sunday morning no matter how cold or snowy. We keep score and at the end of Winter give out prizes.
2. Work on various projects around our Archery Club
3. Make arrows
4. Repair / Maintain my hunting gear
5. Started fooling around with snowshoes
6. Going to try some Winter Camping this year
7. Small Game hunting (if the drive down to camp isn't too bad)
8. Playing with my Grandson Outside
Not enough time to get bored. Wish I had even more free time in the Winter Months.

same here
Dave, I hear ya! I'm looking at Sunny Skys, about 65 degrees...Shooting bows in the back yard, grilling venison burgers for lunch on the Weber, and thinking of chasing pigs.
Come javelina/hog hunting with us in Texas. I just had two cancellations. Cheap and fun. That's why we call them Cabin Fever Bowhunts. BW
It could be worse, you could be holed up with someone who practiced on their turkey calls all the time. :saywhat:
Unless the snow gets waist deep I go outside as much as I can. Actually, we have had little to no snow so far this winter.
Cabin fever is driving me nuts this year!!! I usually spend lots of time shooting in my shop, and just tinkering around in it. But this year I am building a new house for myself, and my shop has been moved onto the new lot, 18 miles away. Makes for some long boring evenings without it.
Watch the deer eat of my bird feeder, and ski.
No better time than to make up some wooden arrows for the 3-D range and next hunting season. Its also a good time to go a stumping in your deer woods. The leaves are gone and its easy to find trails, rubs, ambush points, etc. (That is if you live in N.C. like I do!)
no down time here, runnin rabbits hard every chance I get with my beagles. Mike
I go bunny huntin!! Shawn
Cabin Fever can't get you if your not in the Cabin.
We were able to get an indoor trad bowhunter league started this year. More fun than I thought and will make us better hunters.. Then there is the NFL until Feb 1st,, then to TX to chase Javelina.
As always building arrows,, practice with the bow.

Thaks for the offer uncle Barry :notworthy: . How much and when? Jesse thats a pretty good shooting lane you got there :biglaugh: .
You guys have cabin fever, I'm still deer hunting until Feb 1st...8^)
Cure for cabin fever ? Build a cabin of course ! Soon as the last hunting day passes, the grandson and I are starting a cabin. Well, he's 7 , so it most likely me building a cabin. LOL.
I go hunting. Hogs all year around here in California. It was just under 60 here today was going to head out this morrning but the wife came home sick from work last night so i stayed home to help out.
I press my face against the house windows and lick the glass. Then I climb the walls and throw myself to the floor. :jumper:
LOL! Stump shooting, ice fishing, small game hunting and scouting.
Hawg huntin, went with daren(stick_ n_string)friday and he got one.Goin tommorrow too yeehaw,Jesse. :archer:
I mow the lawn.
I'll have a look for some donkeys later on.
I'm with Zbone then rabbits till the end of feb.
Outdoor and indoor archery leagues and cracken coyotes with the 218Bee. Make sure you lube your arrows or you can't get them out when frozen. The only good thing about a long nasty cold winter is looking foward to spring shed and Turkey hunting.
Like Kingwouldbe, we don't have that problem. Hogs are year round! That's why I stay in the south......
Well I thought I had the perfect answer for cabin fever, but as it turns out it has made it 5 times worst!! I started last week building arrows, snakeskins on my bow and skinning beavertails for the handle wraps, curing the tails! this all takes time and keeps you very busy!! on everytime I look out the window,I think of the tree rat and bunny hunting I could be doing :banghead:I do have a back up bow but it is a recurve and really don't like shooting it much!! I miss shooting my longbow,May be one more week before it's done!! :archer:
We still have until the second week in February to Bow Hunt for Whitetails in some zones yet. After that shooting the bows and getting ready for trout season. Maybe some exploring of some new spots as well.
