A lot of members seem to like Schafer silvertips, I thought it would be nice to see some of them. Here is mine I got three seasons ago. I love the tip, I hope to see pictures of tips you guys collected. Its 58" I got two sets of limbs with it one set 55# @ 27" the other is 61# @ 27" snake skin antler knobs one set of limbs have deer horn inlays the other has sheep horn inlays, rosewood riser and limbs. I love the bow so much I even named it the RISING SUN.
I hope I get to see some of Paul's original bow not taking anything away from Dave. (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z166/Traditional-Archer/OhioDeerhunt056.jpg)

Jeff
Just got a tip longbow a while back. I'm a rick welch kinda guy, but I'm shooting the shafer more and more. It's 61@28 diamond wood riser, fast flight with snake skins, 62" with action boo lams. I really did'nt need another bow but for $450 I thought I could get my money back if I did'nt like it. Don

Don....$450 for that bow??? Did you feel at least a little bit guilty buying it for that??
Very nice bow. I have a Silvertip recurve on order....7 more months!!
I'll give you your money back on it right now...
MJB,
Dave made this dream come true for me, back in 1996.
I did not want the checkerd grip so I requested that a chunk of elk antler be inlaid into the grip. Dave sure did a good job on it.
unclewhit
BEAUTIFUL bow

Good women are even harder.

TTT because I love looking at them.

MJB,
Is Dave making a bow for you, did he send you pics of the wood he's making your bow with. The pics from Pg 1 :campfire:
Does Shafer offer different length risers?
Traditional-Archer,
Yes, talked with Beth yesterday and Dave was going to spray the bow today. Should be shipping real soon :bigsmyl:
I believe Dave offers 3 riser lengths, depending on overall bow length.
Billy
you are a lucky guy Mike, I cant wait to see the pics.
Quote
Does Shafer offer different length risers?
I looked on their web sight and couldn't find anything on the different riser lengths, but I also think Dave has three sizes. I would say go on their web site E-Mail Beth or just call Beth its a joy to talk to her.
Purty bows fellas..
Thanks guys. Has anyone shot the 15" riser? How is the performance and is the sight window big enough?
I have a 15 riser with long limbs which make it a 60 inch bow and the site window is not an issue. That longer limb on the short riser also makes it real smooth on the draw. good luck
I've had my share of Silvertips over the years with both 15 and 17" risers. I don't have big hands but for me the 17" risers with short limbs felt and shot much better.
I have a 58" tip and also had a 60" at one time and I couldn't tell the difference between the two as far as shooting characteristics.
I like the looks of the shorter riser, but worry about the limbs being to bouncy if they are too long. I realize the longer they are the smoother the draw so I guess its a fine line. I like a 58" bow so the short riser short limb combo may be ok in both aspects.
Sorry to highjack your thread Bruce, I'll stop.
Bruce,
I should have some pics up tonight. Beth is going to take a few. Bow should ship tomorrow.
Mike
MJB, I will be looking forward to seeing the pics.I talked to Beth yesterday and got my order all worked out.Hope to get mine about September right before bow season. I ordered it in November.Walnut riser, green camo limbs. Can't wait!! Jason
Covey
Good choice  There's something about them Walnut riser's with the camo limbs
Well, I want to thank you guys for posting all your Silvertips. It lead me on a new (to me) bow search and you all know how exciting that can be. I p.m.'d a bunch of you Silvertip guys and got mostly positive responses to your experiences with your's. I ended up buying this one from a fellow trad gang member. I put it through the paces today and absolutely love it. Smoothest draw of any bow I've ever owned, very quiet (even with my light 430 grain gold tip 3555 arrows), no hand shock and fairly quick.
Thanks guys for all your help.
Specs 58" and 50 lbs. @ 28"

KentuckyTJ, glad to see you found a bow, and a very nice one at that. I have never seen a walnut Schafer I did not like.
Enjoy the new bow.

TJ,
Throw a cheap Bear Weatherrest on that baby an it will SHINE
Yeah Steve it needs some rest work definitely. I'm a shoot off the shelf kind of guy. I already ripped off the noisy drawing side plate and will work on the rest plate soon.
Good one, TJ!
I certainly WAS a shoot off the shelf kind of guy till I got my Tip. I figured that Schafer guy might have known something. Dave shoots off a rest too. Hmmmmmmmmm, maybe I should give it a try :saywhat: That little $2 rest improves arrow flight for me so much it isn't funny.
Really, you know old habits are hard to break. If I can't get it flying perfect I'll give it a go though. First I will try building up the rest a little and leaving a gap between the two rest and side plate so the fletch has a place to ride without hitting as much. Most arrow's flew well today though so I'm not to concerned about fine tuning it.
Steve, I went ahead and re-worked the rest material like I do all my bows I left a small valley between the two and shave down a golf tee to a third of its size and stick behind the riser plate. Arrow's are now flying like bullets.
I'm with Steve O, I've always shot off the shelf but since Paul shot off a rest and so does Dave it just seems like that is how these bows should be shot. When my new one comes in Aug it will have a rest on it. They definately shoot REAL sweet with the rest!!
SWEET bow Tom!!
TJ, those limbs are sick! Awesome looking bow. Congrats...Mike
That is about as nice as you can get off the shelf  . That will be one great hunting bow. Have fun!
I've owned a Silvertip for two days what do I know. I'll get one and give it a go. These Kentucky deer are very spooky though. Do you find that rest gives you any noise when your are drawing back? If it does they will turn inside out on a calm day hearing that.
Thanks guys.
Went out today and slid the nock up one serve width and put two twists in the string and it's shooting every arrow perfectly. I can't bring myself to do the flipper now no reason to. Man this is a great bow.
Good for you TJ
TJ. You've got the fever now, congradulations.
I took advantage of the sunny afternoon, so here's a couple more of the illustrious one piece........

Wow!
Stop the press!!! Foxtail, those are magnificent!
Well, it is Beth and Dave who deserve all the credit here- they're the ones who turn a bit of wood and glass into these works of beauty!
MJB- I believe that it is the Rosewood Dymondwood that they offer.
Unclewhit- all three are 60", and 54, 52 and 50 @ 28".
WOW!!!
Here's my recurve - 62", 58# @ 28". Fantastic bows! ;)
