I have a friend who purchased an old bear mag takedown that came with a bear 8 arrow quiver. He wants to shoot carbons, but the gripper is too large to grab the shaft. Any advice?
Often replacement grippers are available from places like 3rivers.
That is exactly what I have - and the same issue.
There is a fuzzy material on a very sticky backing that I got from my Achery local dealer. I cannot remember what it is called but it is for cutting out the shape of your bow handle and forming a comfortable grip - especially on metal or pastic risers. Works good on wood too.
Anyway - I cut a strip about 1/4" wide and use a small phillips screwdriver to force the material into the arrow notches and then around the countour of the quiver bracket until it fit all the arrow pockets. Then the thinner shafts fit snuggly and the material is very durable a quiet.
When I go back to my thicker wood or aluminum arrows I just peel it out and I am back to original size. The strip of fabric in the package was large enough that I think I could do this 8 or 9 times for a cost of about $8.
Wish I could remember the brand name.
Check out Black Widows sight. They sell some little rubber bands that fit from one slot to the next.. Might help.

Those quivers work better with 11/32" shafts.And keep in mind,they get more loose with age,especially if you leave the arrows in them all the time.It also takes some work to quiet them down but it can be done.A much better choice for a bow like that is the 7 arrow quiver,sold by Bear for the take downs.I forget what they call it but it is a Delta quiver and 3Rivers sells them.They are light,length adjustible,quiet,simple and different size grippers are available.Add to that,the gripper openings are adjustible for tension.Really a well designed quiver.
Some of the Bear 8-arrow had square springs at each end. Mine has bolt bracket on the lower end and spring on the upper. I installed a combo bolt on my riser and it works well. The 2 spring version I believe was designed to fit the high riser of the Kodiak Hunter. Although it does have some adjustment for the spring heights.
It is a bit heavy, but there are few bow quivers out there that hold 8 arrows and for those of us to bored to walk the woods without shooting at something it has been great.
I know there are lighter more high tech ones now. I think I have had mine over 35 years.
My old one was noisy. I switched to a more modern bow quiver.
