I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, but I'm just curious what some others think. I recently bought a Griffin, and it is whisper quiet. I've owned a truck load of other bows, but I can't recall any of them being this quiet. Any input is greatly appreciated.

my Dan Toelke D-bow is by far the quietest bow that I have ever owned or shot.
Chris Kiefner
A good straight limb, d-shaped longbow. This design when coupled with an arrow of 11-12 gpi. is really quiet. Even quiet recurves make a lot of noise compared to sucha set up.
Mine is #43@28 and I am shooting a 500 grain arrow. It isn't a speed demon but they won't hear it coming either.

Massie Longhorn, don't need silencers.
St Joe River longbow!

the stick. fits into the straight limbed bow category. Tapered lams. under 50lbs. Tuned and with vibration dampeners.
Silence. The arrow in flight sounds very loud in comparison.
My buddies "Holm-Made" longbow.
2nd the Toelke D bow. My whip is QUIET, but this bow is even more silent.
Funny Swamp Pygmy mentioned the arrow flight being loud in comparison. That is exactly how I felt shooting the Toelke D bow. I could hear my feathers more that the bow itself. I imagine that most bows of this design will have similar results...Mike
Hill longbow, b50 string....
My new Tomahawk,
Dave Petersen's Shrew Classic. He let me shoot it recently up at his cabin, it was so quiet I almost couldn't believe it. My father's Matlock Longbow is a close second. Despite its power, it is whisper quiet. T

My Harold Couch TD LB.
I have had so many people comment on how quiet it is. I have had deer fail to react to the shot. I have had people at the Muzzy wonder how the target got knocked down, not realizing I shot. Super quiet.

Surprised it hasn't already been said, but the quietest bow I've ever shot was an all osage, 3 piece t/d Pronghorn by Herb Meland. I've got a Griffin that's quiet, but my buddy's Pronghorn just puts every other bow to shame! Maybe he got lucky, dunno... It's the only Pronghorn I've ever shot, but if they're all like that...wow!
My wife's 43# Martini longbow. Crazy quiet.

everybody tells me how silent my Thunderhorn is and it is but if it is up to me both my selfbows win hands down
knowing all the variables. When I got my Howard Hill from Craig, I was really impressed with the first few arrows, My wife was 15 yards away in the yard and looked up on the first arrow, because all she heard was the arrow hit the bag.
Shrew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MOHAWK.... I have shot straight limb and string follow bows that were not as quiet. It is the fastest D-shaped bow I have shot as well.

It took me two days to figure out that my Griffin wasn't silenced. Of course I'm from West TN. ; )
Gotta be a hill for me. Probably any straight limbed longbow is gonna be awful quiet.
Black Widow MAII pre FF w/LBR 14 strand B-50 59#.

Definitely a Shrew. My daughters Java Man has a quiet thump to it also. I had a Northern Mist Baraga that was scary quiet too.
2 58" Super Shrews live here, and they are silent. So quiet, I start getting picky about my fletching....the noise of the arrow flying starts to stand out.
Howard Hill Wesley Special.
I have to say a Mosshorn from that dude in Alabama.Forgot his name. But without anything on the string it was silent!
Dwyer,, D shaped longbow,, I think your going to find most D shaped bows are the quitest bows

Assenheimer.Ihave a 55lb and a 50lb. 60"long.I dont think a bow could get much better. Ricky
Voodo Kustom longbow...
i have a hickory self bow 45#@28" draw quietes bow i ever shot was made by one william santolla.of nc he really made a nice bow i use a b-50 string and beaver hair silencers . been to some archery tournements with some people who shoot compounds . their reaction is priceless. " can you shoot that again,i didnt't hear it"
The quietest was definitely a longbow, but I don't remember which one; all the D-shaped longbows are pretty quiet. I do remember the loudest bow, though: it was a recurve that exploded when the nock broke at the shot!
I'll add that the quietest bow that I have seen shot is no longer in production. It was Rocky Mtn Archery's Anaszi Bamboo Longbow that my hunting partner "Bamboo" shoots. Quieter than any recurve or longbow I've seen or shot.
Reviewing this thread evokes an observation similar to that made by Garrison Keillor regarding the kids at Lake Wobegone who were "all" above average. Seems like almost all of the bows ever made are the quietest ever. ;)
