I am trying gasket lacquer for the first time, but I can't seem to get it to coat my shafts. When I pull the shaft through the gasket it is dry to the touch with no coating. I thought the lacquer may be to thick, so I thinned considerably with acetone and got the same results. What am I doing wrong? All help is appreciated
You will need to break in the gasket. Hold the gasket in your hand, and run a shaft through fast. If the GL is to thin it will take several passes.
I had the same problem when I first used GL. Yes the gasket needs to be broken in. I also found out GL likes it warm (70+ degrees). If I must use GL this time of year I use my heat gun to warm the GL and the shafts.
Thanks guys. I'll give it another go tommorow.
Yup prolly the temp.. I like at least 3 coats on mine
