Title: Pic of a young man misspending his youth.
Post by: Onestringer on January 04, 2009, 01:39:00 PM
This is Jeffery, his mom works at the post office in town and last year (I mean 2007), she told me Jeffery had a bow and wanted to hunt.  So I took him with me several times in 2007.  Jeffery just kept talking about his uncle and his mathews compound, and how great the mathews was.  From Jeffery's description that bow did everything but butter your bread.

Now comes 2008 season, everytime Jeffery was at my house he grabbed my bow from the garage and was outback shooting it.  Several times he said he wanted a recurve.  So in early December I sent him a text (thats how you get intouch with teenagers these days) and asked him if he was serious, and he said he was.

A quick PM to Vermonster13 a donation to the TGMM youth bow program and tada a 40lb wing hunter was on my doorstep.  An order from some shafts, a quick fletch job and I had Jeffery's Christmas present.

He came by the house and handed him the arrows and said Merry Christmas, then handed him the bow.  The look on his face was priceless.  He was so appreciative.  The weather outside was 33 degress and misting, but who cares out the door we went.

Since Dec 23, I bet he has shot that bow 5000 times.

Update on Jefferys hunting 2007 produced no shots.  2008 he has missed 4 deer with is cp, he did kill a nice tree this morning though.

Rifle, he killed his first deer ever in the gun season, and his second deer ever during late doe season.

This moring we went hunting, and he missed a deer, then the deer came back.  He went to shoot again but his peep broke.  I learned this how you guess, yes a text message.  It replaced the walkie talkie years ago.

With the peep incident, I bet the old wing will see some field time in next deer season.

Terrific story. Kudos to vermonster13 and all who assisted. I'm sure that act of kindness will pay dividends many times over. Jeffery has a mentor, and it sounds like a darn good one.
