The riser is gonna get alot of work.
Dremel, file, sanding.. is there anything "harmful" about using some stripper on the finish to start with, or should I just sand? I've always completely removed finish before by sanding.. I guess it really doesn't matter, huh??
Just sand with heavy grit, and git-er-done...??

How do you go about removing brass incerts from a riser.. I will fill the holes later, but want the brass incerts gone??

I'd sand the clear-coat off. You don't need anything to aggressive, 250 or higher. As far as the brass goes, I've never done that but about the only way I can think of is to drill them out.
Depending on the glue used to install the inserts, you could find a screw the fits the threads and screw it into the insert hand tight. Heat the screw(and insert) until the glue releases and pull it out with a pair of pliers. If you are careful you should be able to do this without scorching the wood. Pat
A good sand blasting with glass beads will remove all finish, and with care, it will not damage your riser at all.
Be sure to THOROUGHLY clean the riser after this procedure. A few glass beads in the finish look really bad.
Most paint/industrial coating businesses have bead blasters.
The brass inserts-if you really want them gone, then slot the top of the insert with a dremel tool and H/S cutter, and try and back them out with a screw driver. If that doesn't work, you will have to drill tehm out. I don't know if Hoyt uses a threaded insert or a press in insert.
VOODOO said he left them in.. I guess maybe I should too. I don't know.. The heating idea might be worth a try.. I don't want to drill..

I'd leave them be. The inserts look better than filled holes and no chance to make a crack in the riser if you leave them be. You may be better served having this thread moved to the Bowyers Bench though. Might get looked at more by folks with a lot more experience tinkering with them in there.
