These bows really caught my eye. Im looking for another longbow, so if anyone can tell me a little about them that would be great! ( like how long it takes to get one to my door...how they shoot ect...)
About one year to your door and they shoot great, which is why it takes a year to get one.
Yup it takes roughly a year to get one. Maybe a touch longer. Gregg Coffey builds them for Ron and he works full time and builds bows on the side. They are probably the best bow I have shot to date. The handle is the number one thing about them. It fits like a glove and you never have to worry about not gripping the bow the same every time. They are smooth on the draw and shoot very nice. They are not the fastest bow on the market but they can hold thier own and handle a heavy arrow very well.
Most of the people that I have talked to that dont like them dont care for the grip. It is just not what they are used to and they dont take the time to get comfortable with that style. That seems to be the number one thing that I hear but the majority of people love them.
I love the grip on my Shrews my hand always goes to the same spot which is one reason I shoot my shrews better than any other bows I have owned so far. Speed is pretty good maybe not the fastest but above average from bows I have owned. I have 54" and 56" Shrew longbows right now and had a 54" Shrew Recurve till about a month ago. I really like these bows everyone has a design or style of bow that fits their needs and that can be different person to person. I love the short light feel of my Shrews they shoot hard,very quiet,and my accuracy with them is very good. I can hit the kill zone of a deer out to 25 to 30 yards and beyond that on a good shooting day. Thats the best I have ever been able to do since going to trad gear.
been a lot on shrews lately they truly are a awesome bow i have been through a lot of top end bows searching for the right one, was sitting around tinkering with my two shrews after shooting them and thought perfect they are perfect! and for the first time i really have no desire anymore to own any other bow, strange feeling lol only prob is you want more shrews.
lot of people iv met like my shrew, its light, points naturally, smooth, quiet, accurate, short etc..
They are just a fun bow to shoot, very well behaved, real light, point very well, comfort of a big bow but will fit in about any blind you wanna spend the day in. Prolly the best Huntin' bow on the market.
Like Tim said, about the only reason someone cant get along with one is the grip.
I've shot 66-68" LB because of my draw length, so my 56" Shrew is like a pocket pistol.

The year long wait (and it is worth it) is indicative of the fact that Shrew Bows are not a "best kept secret" anymore. Ron LaClair has a design that reflects his long tenure in archery. Gregg Coffey executes that design to a new level and is a true artist of the bowyers craft. Look no further.

There are SO many superb custom bows out there today, I sometimes feel guilty for bragging so endlessly on Shrews. No one size fits all, and what a boring world it would be if that were true. So frankly, I don't care what others shoot, so long as they are happy with their choice and it gets the job done cleanly when hunting. That said, I agree with all above. But be forewarned, if you "fit" with that grip -- the thunb shelf is the heart of it for me -- you'll have a hard time shooting anything else. And while I want all Ma and Pa custom bowyers to succeed and prosper (and have bought several bows in past primarily for that reason), you gotta respect the relatively low price of these little beauties. Bottom line: Shrews are addictive! After waiting what seemed a dozen lifetimes for my first Classic Hunter -- which I got with lots of bells and gongs, figuring that at my age it would be my last top-end bow forever ... within days I was ready to order another one (only reason is, I should have gotten a take-down, could I have know how the world was about to go). So now I'm leaving in the morning for 11 days of AZ deer hunting with my "last" first Shrew, while awaiting the arrival of my second! Just as long ago I learned better than to tell folks far and wide how great rural mountain Colorado is to live in -- in hopes the hordes would quit coming -- I no longer brag on Shrews ... except among fellow TradGangers and other favored trad friends. Someday, you know, Ron and Gregg will quit making these little wonders, and that will either be that .... or perhaps worse, "Grayling will move to Florida." Get 'em while you can! No! Forget that! You don't want a lousy Shrew! Sell them all to me! dave
Ron and Gregg are my good friends, and once in awhile I get accused of being a Shrew-Slappy...so for awhile I haven't said much about them.
Tim Fishell said it well. The grip is what makes a Shrew to me....ergonomic perfection. There are lots of great bowmakers...but Shrews will always be my best and favorite go to bow.
In my opinion, the Super Shrew Li'l Favorite is the best of the bunch.

I just bought my first Shrew. It's an older 54" recurve so it may not look as good as the later models, but it's still a Shrew and I think it's grand. Very lightweight and I love the grip, too. It shoots where you point it, like an extension of your arm. That's just my 2 pennies worth.
Rodger, I think anyone that has a bow built for them by Greg and Ron calls them a friend. There are 2 bows that all others are compared to and a Shrew is one of them. The Classic Hunter is the best to me also. Out Door Dan
The Shrews are light and generally short, so there is some stability that is sacrificed compared to other bows when your shooting form is less than perfect -- and mine is always far less than perfect. Still, I shoot all my Shrews very well. The grip, as others have said, is excellent for my hand. The deflexed riser design is very stabilizing and helps with the way the bow points. The bows are incredibly well made. I think most people will find a Shrew to be among the best they have ever shot. I certainly feel that way. I currently have five Shrews with two more on order, so I am voting with my pocketbook. I prefer takedown bows and have one Shrew with the Bow Bolt option. My next two will have the Bow Bolt also. Foam cores are now an option, and carbon backing on the longbows will add speed. I want a short bow, and the short riser Shrews (the Classic Hunter and the Lil Favorite) are my choice. Roger Norris says the Lil Favorite is the best of all the Shrews, and now that I have one, I have a hard time disagreeing with him. If I could only have one Shrew, it would be a foam/carbon Classic Hunter with exotic wood veneers, stag antler tips and the Bow Bolt. Fortunately, I don't have to choose, so I get to shoot a Lil Favorite too. I'm not sure which one will be my favorite over time -- they are both incredible. If you get one and don't like it, call me and I will help you get rid of it!!

Not that much, really. I'm not exactly sure what Gregg will be charging extra, but from the range he was talking with me about, it shouldn't keep anyone from ordering them if they want them. You will probably pay more for the Bow Bolt than for the foam/carbon together. I am going to get almost every option available on my two bows that will be coming in July and will gladly pay the extra charges. Ron and Gregg are reasonable in their pricing, and the bows will be well worth the cost. They will still be less expensive than many other top bows out there.
Iron John, June will get here before July, so just be happy that you will get your Classic Hunter and Lil Favorite a month before I get two of the same models myself. ;)
