Hey Guys,
I got a pack of 190 Grizzly El Grande's for Christmas and I am very surprised by the variance in weight. On my reloading scale they went 182, 190, 190, 192, 196 201. I am probably not a good enough shot to know much difference, but i am concerned when it comes to tuning.

I have the same issues. I got 12 125s and they are not. More in the range of 136 138 139.

Dave, Weight tolerances are definitely not one of Grizzly's strong points but that is especially bad. :help:
If they were all 190 to 201 I'd not be surprised but that 182 really throws me, zikes. If you'd not weighed them you likely never would of noticed any difference, but once you know it can certainly bug you. Did that come from us? PM me if you want to swap that out.
Joe, that's more typical. The weight is a bit off but much more consistent. By the time you file sharpened those they'd be real close to 125.

Do not fret. When correctly sharpened to a 25degree bevel, your Grizzlys will run around 170 to 175grains. They'll be a bit heavier if you use a 30degree bevel.
I've lost count the number of 190 Grizzlys I've sharpened and when the excess metal is removed, they are fairly consistent and will fly like darts. I've compared mine to dozens sharpened by Sharpster, and his turn out the same weight range as mine. So I'm sure yours will be fine.

Yup, I agree with Daddy Bear. It's the factory grind that's causing the weight variance. Last year when we bought a ton of blank, unground 190s I was very surprised to find that they all weighed 208-212 gr.
Now we're sharpening factory ground heads for people who send them to us and I've noticed that before we dress and sharpen them the weights can be all over the place. After a uniform bevel is ground and polished however, they always end up within 10 grains of each other and frequently within 5 or 6 grains.

I was a Grizzly fighter for years and finally gave up; bought some STOS and took the wife out for dinner etc.
I mean grizzlies fly nice an' all but come on-wrong bevel grind-let the customer fix it?? Give me a break; who has time for that?
STOS fly equally great and are sharp right out of the package.

Do you sharpen Woodsman heads? I live close to you and would drop off all my heads to have you sharpen them.I also might have you do my Magnus heads.Please let me know.

I respectfully disagree. STOS are great broadheads no doubt about it, one of the best... but they most certainly are not anywhere near sharp right out of the pack.

My last Griz purchases found the weights to be within about 4 grains of eachother. Like 204 +/- 4 gr. Something very close like that. I was surprised. Make sure you take all the "junk" off of them with a file before you weigh them. From the cutting/"finishing" process there are burrs all over and on the ferrule that need removing. Then weigh them. May come out closer...
I bought the Grizz 160gr from 3rivers, had them sent to Ron (sharpster) and received them from him,razor sharp, they all six weighed in finished wt, between 151 and 154 gr.
