Title: Bowfishing with Shrew
Post by: ishoot4thrills on December 28, 2008, 10:56:00 AM
Okay, my used Shrew recurve should arrive any day now. I want to bowfish with it. What's the best setup to use with it as far as tape-on reels go or should I try one of those strap-on adaptors and just go with an AMS retriever reel? What about installing a stabilizer bushing in front? Is it recommended to do that? I'm also thinking about a shoot-thru "hoop" also. What are some of your thoughts? Thanks.

Buy an adapter and go with an AMS and yes people bow fish with lots of customs. I have used a Widows and Robertsons. The AMS is the only way to go in my opinion! Shawn

Yes, I would like to use the AMS reel too. I guess I'm gonna have to come up with the money to buy 2 of them (one for my 11 yr. old son and one for me). I have an 808 set up on a short rod, but I would much rather sell it and use an AMS reel and the side mount adapter instead of the one in front. Anybody got an AMS reel they want to get rid of?

i have used the drum reels in the past, but really like the ams on a traditional gadget adapter.

So, the adapter that straps on the side is stable enough? Not a good idea to install a stabilizer bushing on the front?

Ummmmm....some thoughts.  Why in the world would you want to use a high-end (read that as expensive and hard to get) custom bow to drag through water and mud and crap and get all scratched up and shoot trash fish with?  Tell you what, I'll trade you a nice little Bear recurve for that Shrew...it'll make a PERFECT fish bow.  I'll even put a few extra dings on it first if you want.    :bigsmyl:

As beautiful as a shrew might be in the end it is made to work hard.  I bet some of us would be astonished at some of the things Mr. LaClair has done with his bows.  I just wouldn't do any hole drilling.
