Title: Deer mounts and pets
Post by: Two Arrows on December 26, 2008, 10:37:00 PM
Ok guys and gals, I caved in and agreed to let my 2 kids each get a kitten for Christmas. Basically, the decision was already made to get them before I gave my "ok". My question is: have any of you that have cats ever had a problem with them messing with your mounts?

Thanks - Doug

Maybe the other way around, the Mount messed with the pets! The dog didn't know WHAT to think when this Coyote mount showed up out side the cabin! Poor dog was on pins and needles, didn't know wether to run away or bark at the Coyote mount!    :scared:

Cats...no. But my dog was pretty curious about the deer on my wall for the first day. And he was pretty excited and unsure about the 3D deer that appeared in our back yard!  :)

My house is filled with both and neither seems to mind the other.

My buddy had his mount of a road-kill fawn, ears eaten off by his house cat.

Neither my dogs nor cats have bothered any of my mounts.  However, when I brought my full sized mountain Lion mount home the cats hid out for several days, scared to death of it.  After three or four days they were brave enough to actually enter the same room but hid under chairs, coffee tables, and the couch for another three or four days before getting enough courage to walk through the room.

We had one cat that liked to leap from the fireplace mantel onto the neck of one of my deer mounts from time to time. Never did any harm to the mount and we got her to stop the practice after a while. We have two younger cats now that don't seem to pay any attention to any of the mounts.

Like Walts, they were a little affraid of the Mt lion when I first brought it home but not quite as bad as his. The lion doesn't seem to bother them at all now but I notice they don't actually get too close to it either.

Well, the first incident was today. One cat doesn't seem to really pay attention to the mounts. The other, well, he's totally opposite. He got on the couch, within paw's length of two mounts and decided he needed to sharpen his claws. I was waiting for him to commit the act, he did, and that's when I gave him a swat and blew EXTREMELY loud on a goose call at the same time. What happened after that was pretty much a blur, he almost turned inside out trying to get away. The last I saw was a grey form shooting across the room. We'll see what happens in the next few days.
