Title: Hunting around Houston TX?
Post by: ScottinPA on December 24, 2008, 09:05:00 PM
Is there any hunting around the Houston area in mid to end of January?  I'd guess the whitetail rut is kicking then.  How about public land?  I've always heard that TX is all private.  Looking to supplement a business trip if I can.  Javelina would be good, whitetails would be icing on the cake.

Thanks
Scott

There is a pay to hunt place near Houston called Cougar Run Ranch.  I've never been there, but you can pay a fee to hunt hogs, deer, exotics.  Let me know when you are coming and maybe I could tag along.  I live about 5 min. from Houston Intercont. Airport.

Deer season will be over by them. rut will be long past as well (nov/dec). plenty of fine Hog hunting and you can find a fair amount of public land north of town in the Sam Houston national forest. you will need to buy the 48$ public access stamp when you buy your non-res. hunting lic. check back when you know when you will be down I work around Houston quite a bit.

There are no javelina in the Houston area. Feral hog hunting is your best bet in late January.

Try Hunt-n-Shoot in Chester which is about an hour north of Houston, just east of Corrigan. It has some fantastic hog hunting.
