How many guys out there own and hunt with multiple makes of bows? Or maybe you have many bows by the same bowyer? I have owned tons of bows but currently only own 2 (although I am on the list for another one). My favorite bows so far are a Habu by Chris Cox, and a Dakota by Rick Welch. I have been hunting with the Dakota the last 2.5 seasons. I have found that I shoot better when I stick with just one or 2 bows. What about you guys?
-
I shoot one, but own six or seven. Mostly older curves my Dad owned. I only hunt with my LB though...
-
I shoot longbows and recurves and now and then a compound, but I prefer longbows. Longbows a just so light in the hand and a joy to carry. If I'm hunting from a stand a recurve is ok also.
-
I only shoot one...at a time  .
I usually stick with one of my Kanati's during season, but I shoot them all in the off season. The Kanati's are the best I have found thus far.
-
I'm trying to become a one-bow man ... still have to shed a couple, though. Right now, my favorite maker and bow is JD Lund and his Whisperstik.
-
Looks like 13 on the bow rack right now. Just hunting with 2 this season depending upon manuerability in hunting location.
-
I'm trying to get down to four or five. Any given season, I'll hunt with three or four different bows. I use lighter bows for deer and small game and heavier bows for bigger critters. And, of course, I have a junker for carp shooting. I've hunted with one bow in the morning and a different bow in the afternoon. They're mostly longbows, and most are in the same weight range, handle the same arrows and shoot similarly. Never had a problem with switching back and forth. Lately, however, I've noticed that I've been picking up my ACS most of the time.
-
Try to stay with one per season.
-
I've got 5 bows from different bowyers.2 from Habu and 3 from Zipper,Wes Wallace,Pronghorn,oh yah and a Fredrick.I almost shoot the Habu's exclusively.Guess I need to sell the others.
-
Although I own a few I hunted with one curve this season. Now that season is almost over the others will come out to play. Can't see just one bow-almost heresy.
-
I have four. 2 Pronghorn longbows 1 Pronghorn recurve and one palmer recurve. I only shoot my pronghorn recurve though.
-
I own several bows of 7 different bowyers, but I would like to have the total bow production if it were possible. But I hunt with just a couple of bows, always the same. I don't have anyway big problems to switch from a bow to another
-
I hunt with several bows througout the season. Took a doe with a Black Widow recurve and a buck
with a Treadway longbow this year. Some bows have better "mojo" than others.
-
I have about 50 bows - not counting the little fiberglass kid bows (that would be 20 more)
I do a lot of archery support for Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Church camps so they come in handy with my collection of several thousand arrows and a box full of safety gear. Been collecting all this for over 40 years. Have not picked up much in the last 2 years since traditional bows have become much more scarce and the prices on used bows have gone out of sight. I would guess my collection is now worth a WHOLE lot more than I originally paid.
As for myself, I have about 6 favorites that I try to keep current with.
-
Two for now
-
I have three custom bows with a forth coming VERY shortly. However, when I am seriously going hunting I always grab my Zipper Extreme.
-
I own Two but only shoot and hunt with my longbow, everytime I get the hankering to buy another bow I just go shoot my monarch, it's part of me and I it!!A match made in heaven!!
-
No comment. :p
-
I own several but generally only hunt with the one that I have the most confidence in on game
(a Martin Hatfield 50#).
I shoot a Great Plains Palo Duro recurve at the range and plan on hog hunting with it this winter.
-
I tried shooting to longbows at once, both where 60lb I wasn't strong enough, :goldtooth: so I just shoot one now
-
Is not just shooting them it is having them on the rack and seeing them and cleaning them that also gives great joy,
I will like to be a one bow man but I think that will never happen, when i go small game hunting i take a small poundage bow , just for getting them out and giving them some time in the field
-
Vermonster,
Hiding your addiction won't make it go away. You are among friends, just let it out, and if you are ever cured I'm sure there are people here who would be happy to help you with whatever purging you might deem neccessary. As for myself, I always try to remain faithful to one companion per season.
-
I can't tell you how many bows I have right now, I've lost count and still have three I have yet to shoot due to the snow and a couple on the way. We have 48 days of deer season here, and I've been known to hunt two different bows in the same day if the mood strikes me.
-
I try to keep two all the time, usualy a recurve and a longbow but the last year or so it has been more longbows.
-
I have 6 so far. Keeps things interesting for me
-
The past two seasons, I have only hunted with my A & H ACS the others look longingly out the window!
-
Jon,
Multiple. Regarding recurves, have 9 right now. I am like you, have shot a LOT, but the Rick Welch Dakota Hunter, along with the Daala have been tops.
For longbows, have 2, with 4 more on order. As Horatio said, keeps things interesting.
Good post buddy!
-
I build myself a new one every winter and use it all year. Just one for me!
-
im now a one type of bow guy ( Shrew ) just bought another one it should be coming soon am on the waiting list for another, gotta have a shrew for every eventuality. love those bows
-
I might be a one bow guy someday but not now.I like too many different kinds of bows to ever shoot just one.I would be happy to just stick to 3 or 4 for the year. :D
-
Besides a couple short "experiments" with other bows(and a hunt with my original Silvertip in MT in '06)...it's been my Jack Kempf Kwyk Styks for 12yrs now....
My first one "Timex" 63@28, was built in '97 and Jack built me another one "Cy" 57@28,last year as close as humanly possible (besides the weight)to my first.... Both are tuned to about 9gpp and I can switch between them without a hitch....
"Beware the mad that shoots one bow!!"
I personally think that a guy cannot reach his full potential as an archer if he continually switches bows......
-
I will never reach my potential as an archer if Curt is correct, because I love to shoot lots of different bows and, therefore, I own a lot of them -- not as many as David Knipes -- but a lot of them!
Allan
-
I am down to one recurve....Rose Oak Tomcat with 48# and 53# limbs and one longbow....54# MOAB. I plan to add a "MOAB to go" at the same weight and call it good. Time from work and the money lost from it has taken alot of the bow buying out of my budget for awhile.
-
OH MY GOD !!!!!! Is there such a thing as one bow----at least there is a Monday Bow , a Tuesday bow , Well you know what I mean. Happy Holidays!!!!!
-
Have 5 bows, but I allways shoot my Black Widow PsaV.
I want to buy another one(ACS,Blackswan,Morrison or another widow)and sell my 4 "retired" bows.
-
Hey guys,
I have several bows:
Bob Lee Signiture recurve 60# @28"
Schafer Silvertip recurve 62# @28"
Howard Hill Tembo long bow 80# @28"
1/2 doz. lam. & glass long bows of my own make all in the 60# @ 28" range
osage self bow long bow 45# @28"
Yew long bow on the shave horse now.
At this time I only shoot the Silvertip out of respect for Paul. Although we'll have to see what happens with that piece of Yew, I can hear her calling to me.
I guess it may be time to purge.
Anybody wanna buy a bow? I'll figure out how to get some pictures up.
Jeff
-
One top-end bought bow at a time, plus half a dozen or so homemade bows. Although ... my second Shrew is on order and I don't intend to sell the first ... it's my retirement account! :bigsmyl: Serious dave
-
5 Morrison's and an odball Trad Tech Titan.
-
Oh my I love bows, just one?? No No No that cannot be :D
-
I have tried several different bows over the past 3 yrs. I am so happy with one bowyer's bows I can truly say that I am happy with one bow. I have 2 of his and another one on order!
-
For my travelling trips, I strictly use my Kempf Stealth T/D and my backup bow is an original Bill Stewart Multi Cam.
For whitetails here at home, I alternate between my Mikuta Longbow and Groves Spitfire.
-
I'm of the mindset that you will always shoot the best if you use the same bow year after year. That being said I own a Bear Custom Kodiak T/D, 69' Super Kodiak, 74' Super Grizzly, 70's Grizzly, 91'Bighorn onepiece, 02'Schafer Silvertip onepiece, and a few Hickory/Osage self bows of my own making. But I still think I shot the best when my only bow was my first custom bow a Colorado Bighorn way back in 1988. This past year I shot that little 55# Grizzly and have found that I really like it, and have begun to wonder why I have all the others?
-
I would love to be able to just shoot one bow. The problem is I have 5 that I shoot, and I like them all. The 4 longbows listed below, and my Black Widow PSA III. :biglaugh: I can't sell any of them.
Bill
-
I will never be able to shot just one bow. Too many good ones and not enough time or money. I would love to try them all!
Louis
-
I have a bow "problem"... When I find a bowyer I like I seem to be loyal.
Earl Hoyt Jr.-- Pro Medalist Hunter, one of the best recurve bows I've ever owned. Earl's SKY bows are superb. I hunt with my ROGUE longbow everyyear.
Love my Black Widow's (all recurves), but I do need a BW PL longbow.. Ha
Also love longbows. Wingnut makes a superb BBO, his "Hunter" model and I have a Oracle on order.
I love them all and try to hunt with two different bows every deer season and then pick others for my hunting trips.

-
I'm with Guru on this one!!
-
One of the pleasures of life for me is trying out all the different bows :archer: , so I buy, sell, trade, blah, blah, blah. I have no doubt that the "one bow" archer is superior is most cases, but I feel sorry for this guy  when I think of all the fun he's missing.
However, one month before hunting season I stay with one bow (plus a backup) and try to become very intimate with it. ;)
-
Just the one for me. Shortly after I bought my second bow (nice HH Halfbreed), my first one died. I think it's an omen. :-p
-
I used to shoot several until recently. I bought a Griffin from another tradganger. Now it is the only bow I shoot. I have sold a few of my bows and I am planning to sell 3 more in the next week or so. I have never shot a bow that I shoot as good as I do the Griffin. The bow is 60" and I am going to place an order for a 56" Shrew. I don't know if I will ever go to another style of longbow.
-
I have 4 recurves: 2 Kodiak Magnums, one Grizzly, one Red Wing Hunter, and I have a High Country compound. Most of the time I'm hunting with the High Country, but here recently I've been taking one of the Kodiaks to the woods and shooting it nearly every day. I had a Zipper, but it was too heavy for my liking, so I parted with it.
I killed my first whitetail 35 years ago, and I've taken well over 100 since then. Going back to the old recurve brings back a lot of memories and has put a new spark in the hunt.
-
I always shot different bows and can still pick up most any bow and hit well with it, but for the last 2 years I have pretty much shot one bow and I shoot it very well! Shawn
-
I have a bunch, mostly of my making, but I usually stick with one for most of the year.
-
I can't resist a good deal so I end up with multiple bows. I am trying to get to where I own and shoot one and have another for a back up.
-
I have a few old 1960's Bear recurves that I shoot once in a while, but my #1 bow for all my hunting,
(and pretty much everything else) is my Mikuta longbow.
-
Montana longbow 64" 55# at 28" :campfire:
-
ONE BOW?? Gasp. :biglaugh:
-
I'm a "One bow too Many Type"
9 total
-
I have 5, but I try to shoot mainly the one I'm using for my next hunt for a month or so leading up.
-
I shot the same bow for 30 years. Then in the past 3 years tried many different bows (screwed my shooting up). I am now down to one bow and sticking with it. A Jack Harrison El Lobo longbow. My one bow creed didn't last very long though (4 days). I have another Harrison on the way. Well at least it is by the same bowyer. My creed has been changed from one bow to one bowyer. But this is the last bow I will ever buy, ever!
Merry Christmas.

Until the arthritis took over, I had six bows: A D-H Hunter, Kodiak Magnum, Browning Nomad and a Bear 76er, all in hunting weight; and a Browning Rover, Browning Prep and a short boy's Boy Scout recurve. in light 'target' weight. I sold the heavier bows, except for the 76er (sentiment) keeping only the Rover, Prep, and Boy Scout. I've since fabricated a couple of 'bundle bows' for indoor shooting: very light tackle. I would like to go back about 60 years to a light longbow like the one I began with, but at my age it doesn't make economic sense to invest in more bows.
-
I'm a one bow kind a guy.... well I only shoot one at a time! ;)
-
I shoot one bow all the time, until I decide that there is another one that I might like better. I've owned at least 20 different recurves trying to find that "one better." Maybe it's me, hmmm. . .
-
I watch the classifieds like looking for work.Im trying real hard not to give into temptation. If I could just get rid of that short bow itch. :knothead:
-
I only own one bow so that's easy. Hope to make that two someday soon. we'll see what funds come in as Christmas gifts!
-
Honestly I've been a bow a holic... I shot 1-longbow from age 16 years until 2003... After discovering Tradgang in 2003...I have traded over 30 custom bow... Yes it's crazy... I currently shoot 1-bow and love it... I shoot a Bobby Lutkenhaus double carbon glass free R/D longbow... Its a 40 pounder and smokes an arrow @ 30"... I shoot more consistent with one bow compared to frequent changes... www.predatorlongbows.com (http://www.predatorlongbows.com)
Jason :)
-
I have ten bows, divided down the middle between recurves and longbows. I'm more of a longbow guy........right now! I only shoot one during hunting season.
The way I look at it. " They ain't eatin' nothin', so why get rid of any of 'em!!"
Joe
-
I have over 40 custom bows, but only shoot one per season. As soon as I take an animal with that bow, I hang it up and move on to the next bow. Merry Christmas to all.
-
19 bows. 10 keepers, the rest trading fodder to keep shooting "more" different bows.
-
2 longbows, 2 recurves, and a couple of old wheelies. I love them all!
-
I think I have about 20. I don't shoot them all equally in terms of time, but I do shoot about 10 of them on a reasonably regular basis. I'll be selling/trading a few after the first of the year in an effort to thin the herd, but even so, I'll likely always be a double-digit bow gal!
Claudia
-
Golly one bow! Not me I had about 40 one time only shot about 5 ...Now I have 2 bows...longbows..Merry Christmas trad buds and gals!!!!marco#78
-
Im down to one bow a Liberty English. As soon as funds allow I want a HH Cheetah. I would be happy with two bows I think?
-
Jon,
I bought a new Bear Kodiak Magnum (50# @ 28") about 1972. It was the only bow I hunted with until I had to retire it a couple of years ago. It got damaged in a moving truck. Since then I've acquired a Tomahawk Thunderstorm (50# @ 28"). As long as it doesn't get damaged, I expect I won't need another.
-
I'M a believer in only 1 bow !!!!!!
-
I usually have several and will shoot them all in the spring and summer months. But come Sept. I'm narrowing it down the my hunt bow and a back up. This year the Welch Dakota got the nod for my hunting bow with a Morrison curve as a back up.
I very pleased with the power, duribility and shootibility of the Welch bow. In the past Morrison has always been my go to hunting bow.
It's a confidence thing with me and by season opener I'll have the utmost confidence in my set up.
-
I have several [25+]Customs, both recurve and LB 1 pc. and T/D............That said, I love the choices my collection allows. With 3 more comming in the mail.
However my Griffin's, 60" 1 pc. 61@ 28 and a 2 pc. T/D 60" 55@28 [ my back up] seem to be the only ones that see time in the woods. I shoot them well, they fit my hand so nice, quiet, & fast. Can't wait to get my hands on the Griffin 59'r that will be added soon I expect it will also be a "Keeper".
I spent thousands to find the "right bow". I'll stick with them and in the future probably sell everything with the exception of my Silver Tip and a beautiful long bow another TG'r built me as a gift. Thank's for that one Curt!!
Gene
-
I use only one bow during hunting season this year is is a Bear T/D last year it was my RER.
-
I only have 1 bow, a DH Mamba recurve. I am waiting for a tip that won't be delivered until May.
-
I own a whole bunch of them. My problem is kinda weird. I love taking a new bow and working with it till I get a really good flying arrow, then I like to put it away and move on to the next bow. It's a strange habit I know, but there is something about the challange of tuning a bow to shoot an arrow well that I like. I may never launch an arrow at an animal with any of them, but I sure like seeing just how good I can get them to shoot. :) Don
-
I own both recurves and longbows, but seem to consistently reach for the longbow. Mostly, I hunt and shoot 3D with my Wesley Special from Hill, and secondarily with my Kolomi from Lynn Harrelson. There is just something special about a longbow.
-
i have multiple bows and buying more because i'm looking for that one bow that has it all....then i'll be a one bow hunter.
-
Well being new to trad hunting this year, I recently picked up a second longbow, a sweet shooting Voodoostik. I hunted with my Montana Longbow all season, killed my first buck with it in November. I have a good feeling that the Voodoostik is going to be my go to bow and the Montana the backup, we'll see!
