Last Christmas I gave a compound shooting friend of mine a Bear Grizzly...He could have it,no charge..The only stipulation was that he had to hunt with it this season..
His first day ever hunting with a recurve...Blacktail buck rattled into 10 yards...
Some people have all the luck...LOL

Congrats to him, maybe now he's hooked. My first year certainly did not work out that way. ;) Joe
That is a very nice blacktail!!!!
Congrats to your friend....Maybe he'll get hooked by the trad bug....
Brett
Good 'un!!
Ruined for life!
Great Gesture!!! Great result!
I bet he will be back with the Grizz... He may stray, but I bet he'll get bored and come back...
Beautiful!
cool!!!
Congrats
AWESOME, very cool thing to do Santiam and congrats to your friend!!!!
Santiam, I don't think you'll be getting that Grizzly back! That's a great blacktail, by the way. Now get your buddy on Tradgang and he'll be hooked for life!
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
"hooked for life".....and I bet someday, after spending thousands of dollars, and thousands of hours trying to get a better hunting experience, he'll look back at this photo and think, "Man, those were the days, wish I never traded that Griz".
Way to break in the new bow! My bow didn't come with that kind of guarantee?!
Beautiful buck!!!
Thats sweet.
I guess the buck saw your buddy without his compound and figgered he was safe. :D
Looks like a Grizzly I have, early seventies.
Those blacktails sure are a handsome deer. I have noticed that they are nearly always wet, though.
Killdeer

Meant to be.
Friends don`t let friends shoot compounds.
Well done indeed! My hats off to you both!
Great Mojo !! Congrats !
That is one HUGE blacktail! Looks like your pal had no problem putting an arrow in the right spot with his new Griz. Fine gesture and most excellent hunt.
Wow! You can't write a better story. Those there Blacktails are some fine looking deer-for sure. Woulsn't mind gettin over that way to chase em around myself one day. Hope he gets many more with that Grizz...

What a nice buck---funny thing Santiam, your blacktails have webbed feet, and ours have mountain goat paws. They are adaptable creatures.

Nice blackie!
Now ya did it, lol
That's an awesome blacktail. In my opinion there is no deer as beautiful as one of those blackies...and your friend got himself a real nice one. Congrats to him.

Both of you participated in the taking of that beautiful Blacktail buck. A+++++++.
Hey Santiam....good to here from ya. Congratulations to your friend...that is awesome. Some guys just make it look easy. I've got a friend that I've been teaching how to shoot a recurve also. I let him borrow one of my old Big Horns (my harem of Quests are off limits :D ) and took him bowhunting with me for his first time. On his first try he got a javelina and then this past weekend he killed his first deer. He's 2 for 2 and only been at it for about a month.
Do you still have all them goats???
Merry Christmas!!
Brett
Hey Brett,
Ya,still have a few goats..LOL
My buddy Vince is a excellant hunter, bow or rifle...He just has not tried trad yet and was displaying a interest in it...I told him that I would bring a couple bows in to work, and he could stop by,pick them up and shoot and get a feel for it...
Much to my surprise when he stopped by he had a pile of trad bows in the back...LOL... His plan was to shoot as many as he could and see what he liked...There were several custom bows in the back seat, including a Blacktail...Other friends had loaned him bows to shoot..I had the Grizz and a Tigercat and felt kinda sheepish putting them in with the high dollar bows..
After a couple months he stopped by to give my bows back...Of all the bows he had shot, even the high dollar customs,he liked that Grizz most of all...I was shocked...It was a nice little bow and the bow I took as back up when I traveled far from home, but was far from being a Blacktail..
He thanked me for the use of the bows and was going to watch the auction sites for something similiar ...
The more I thought about it,the more I realized the the bow was meant for him...He had picked it over all the other bows, and another bow may not have that "feel"..
Besides,I have so many bows in the back room that one more or less was not going to make much difference..I think I paid 10 dollars for that bow at a garage sale...Called him and told him to come back, pick the bow up and Merry Christmas...
BUT, like I said,he had to hunt with it the next season...LOL
From the way things turned out,his first hunt with the bow and all, kinda makes a guy believe in karma, mojo or whatever you want to call it...That bow WAS meant for him...
Way to go to both of you !! Very nice deer and that nice jesture probably feels pretty good too ,well done
Merry Christmas
He proved that to be true Bill! Good stuff. But now there will be one more guy who out shoots me at the Pope&Young though!
That's a really cool story!
No more goats! We're totally focused on cattle now.
Merry Christmas!!!
Brett
Strong work, Santiam You did well, Sir.
Yeah
Trad is so easy; a caveman could do it ;^)
