Title: Treadaway Black Swamp - thoughts and pics
Post by: buckster on December 19, 2008, 11:50:00 AM
I just ordered a new LH 2-pice Black Swamp from Mike today, he is a great guy.  I have heard a LOT of good things about this bow!  Here are the specs, tenatively...

60" 50@27" Zebrawood limbs over bamboo, bolivian rosewood handle with some added 45's in the handle and tips to snazz it up a bit.

Wait time is about a year, with no deposit, and a 2-week buy-back. I thought, how can you go wrong?

I would appreciate any pictures and feedback you might have.  Thanks in advance!

That Black Swamp that Mr Treadway builds is one fine shooting machine. It hits the target with authority!!!!Quiet as a church mouse. And the arrow hits right where you are looking. There is absolutely no hand shock in any of Mr.Treadway's bows. The design and craftmanship of Mr.Treadway's bow are just like the man himself!!!OUTSTANDING.Mr Treadway is a TRUE SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN IF THERE  EVER WAS.He is so sure of his bows he offers a 2 week buy back and he also sells an outstanding knife as well.

Steven,

Thanks for the great pics.  Can you eloborate on which woods were used in the limbs & riser?

Does anyone have a pic of the sassafrass limbs?  Mike uses this often, per our conversation today.

Thanks again.

these are not all my bows..i just grabbed some of these other pics from other post to share...I hope that is ok with all the fellows..just pm me if there is a problem and i'll remove... if ive got any of the woods wrong..let me know and ill correct... thanks and keep the pics going..

buckster..my 64" has sassafras limbs...it has been my favorite shooter for a long time... I got it used and i believe the cores are also sassafras... the bow is a great shooter , but as far as cosmetics i believe there are nicer looking lams... I dont think mike likes to stain lams..i think the sassafras would look better stained..just my opinion... im going with cedar in my blackswamp that should be built in the next month or so...

Mitchs bolivian rosewood and zebra lams is a sweet shooter...i was able to shoot that for a week and loved it... these bows are extremely fast, point very well, and are quiet..

plus the zebra lams were sweet.

How long a bow will Mr Treadway build ?  These look like they may be the heavy risered hybrid I'm looking for. ?

Can anyone comment on stability ?  I've been trying to make the switch to longbow for a few years and really like a heavy riser.

that would be a good question for Mike... i thought i remembered him saying he was going to build them up to 60"....He may go longer if it was requested...give him a call.

60 INCHES is the longest in the BLACK SWAMP.

that was up to 60" in the new blackswamp forward handle design..

his original design goes up to 68"

You cant go wrong with either design..they both are extremely nice bows...

My bow is the Kingwood bow that Steve posted the picture of with the sassafras limbs they say the limbs will darken over time. It is the smoothest and most shock free bow I believe that I've shot in my short traditional experience.
