Title: 3 piece longbow?
Post by: B-DOG on December 19, 2008, 10:05:00 AM
i have been shooting traditional bows for about 3 years now and quickly learned that i like longbows better than recurves. i have had several 1 piece longbows and like the way they shoot. i am planning on getting a t/d and like the idea of a 3 piece(specificaly the pronghorn) to be able to change limbs. and for travel. i have never shot a 3 piece longbow with a small riser and i am wondering how much differance it will be from the i piece.

I actually just received a 3 pc. pronghorn yesterday that I ordered from Herb.  You won't see much of a difference, the riser still holds the same type of grip and the design is basically the same.  You will probably actually shoot it a bit better since the 3 pc. has a bit more mass weight in the handle.  My comparison here is based on a 3 pc. Pronghorn and a 1 pc. Liberty Chief that I own.  Good luck and good choice.

I own or have owned Liberty's, pronghorns-1 and 3 piece- Meigs and a couple of others.

3 piece Phorns are very stable and the added mass in the riser does make it very pleasant to shoot.  The 1 piece is nice, but I like the added mass.  I also have shot-not owned- take down Liberty's.  Allen just makes a very nice, shootable bow and I like d that too.  You'll not have any problem with accuracy with either bow.

The grip on the 3 pc is a little smaller than the 1 pc, I like them both...PR

I think that Herb's 3-piece Pronghorn is as close to a one-piece as exists.  That being said, I have a different bowyer's 3-piece that I prefer.

Herb's 3 piece is awesome!! Mine is even better 62" 59#@28 and faster than his 1pc. bows of which I have two. This bow is quite possibly the fastest Longbow I own.

Grips are about the same but I shoot the 3 piece better than his 1 pc bows.

The only other TD Longbow,[and I have a few] that I shoot more is my Griffin [60" 55#@28 with the bow bolt]. I just love the grip.

I use a different boyers 3 pc but I will never go back to a one piece the three pice gives me the riser mass of a recurve with the smooth shooting characteristics of a longbow

I use a different 3pce as well (Jim Jones Firefly), and will never buy another one piece again.  I have kept my Turkey Creek because it is a gret bow, but any serious shooting or accuracy that is needed - then it is the 3pce.

They are so convenient for travel, so accurate and smooth with the added mass in the riser and look a million bucks - what more would a man want!

I really enjoy a 3 pc Kota TD Longbow. Have 2 sets of limbs and a 3rd on order. Works well for me.

Good point Carroll - I was shocked at the speed of my pronghorn - very sweet bow.

The Pronghorn 3 piece T/D is awesome.  I've owened Liberty, Kota, Acadian Woods, Horne, Shrew, Tomahawk, just to name a few, and the Pronghorn is head and shoulders above them all.

The Pronghorn is fast, smooooooth as silk, and the quietest bow you will ever shoot, and zero handshock.  The grip is as close to a 1 piece as you will ever find.  You WILL be happy with a Pronghorn.
