Another cold snowy night here so I got my camera out. If you have pics of your bow room, den, trophy area and or bow stuff cubby area please share them.
Parts of my bow room.. I'm running out of space and this stuff has spilled out into my living room. I think I almost need to pull everything down and start again with a bit of order to it all...

Cool display:) my wife hates when that happens so
I have started building a game-living room this fall i hope to set the post an beam truss this week an i`ll try to post some pics may be a little bit till it`s finished
I used to keep a horse near Westminster...now I just visit for the steam show. I am so wanting to see everybody's cool displays, hoping it will inspire me to throw most of my junk offa the balcony to make room for a redo.
Spilled into the living room? HAHH! I cleared out the living room in order to prepare walls and ceiling for paint. "Honey, could you help me with the ceiling? I have all the walls done."
Skip lightly down the primrose path. It is ten years later and the painting never happened. We got a roof leak instead. The condo association sent Mudbutt out to redo the drywall. He was mostly a no-show and made more mess than he fixed, so we said never mind. We'll finish and paint. "Sweetie, could you help me with the ceiling"
Now there is another roof leak in another part of the condo, it is dripping merrily as I type. They have fixed that spot twice, and now they must do it again, I fear. The walls are unpainted, the carpet was old when we moved in twenty-five years ago, and the living room, alas, has refilled. The room that I filled with living-room stuff has never regurgitated its load and so, well, I am stuck. But I can look at your rooms and learn, be inspired, and consider emulating your oases of the heart. Post a pic? I wouldn't want to depress you. Shock you. Destroy the mystique.
Killdeer :D :smileystooges: :help:
Great room JDS3,,
(((((PICS TOO BIG))))
Very nice, JDS! Here's mine. A work in progress...we moved into this house a couple of years ago. It is great to have a room to put all the huntin' stuff in and not feel guilty. ;) Of course, I am getting some "spill over" as well. I really like that wood stove and boar mount, Frank.

Where in Westminster did you board ur horse?? it had to be in the last 15 years cuz before that they were not allowed
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
it was a dairy operation only in every direction as far as you could see.(simple life back then) My grandfather said they were hay burners an I could not have one, waste of $ he said. I wish more than anything he was still with us. Back to the post.. Killdeer i believe it`s time to pull out the wipe out an use ur womanly powers to get Mudbutt to paint the ceiling. Now shame on me wishing that kind of wrath on another man, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do:) And i would like see some of ur bow stuff or trad accomplishments, no mater how big or small, they are all trophy's an you should be proud!
Kill DEER the whip will get ya more none than the wipe :knothead:
There's been a few additions since I posted these last :bigsmyl: I have another eastern and my "08 Iowa buck at the taxidermist still.

Biggie, REALY nice!! What is the treadmill for?? BILL
Really nice fellas!!
RedBoar nice set of turk calls there but what with that ugly contraption? ;)
Biggie is that snake the one you got earlier this year? Joe
Biggie you had me laughing this morning. In the one picture you took the angle makes it look like the hog is running on the treadmill. LOL
Bullfrog, the treadmill is for hanging wet clothes on to dry.
JoeM ...yep. I didn't keep the head.
Bill, somebody has to use it!
Great looking rooms!!! Lots of cool stuff to look at...kinda like mini museums.
Pretty disgusting display of self indulgence and skewed prorities Biggie- your my hero! :notworthy: :notworthy: Grant
mine too :)
Biggie,
Very nice! Were'd you get that bronze of Brunner shooting his selfbow in your first pic? :biglaugh:
The raccoon on the book shelf takes the cake
I've noticed some of you have TOO many bows! You need to use the Obama plan and redistribute your wealth!
:goldtooth:
nice room Biggie very nice
Nice job, Biggie. When my wife got pregnant with our first, it was time to add on to the house and so I added on a den/trophy room/office...doing much of the work myself after a shyster contractor screwed me over and left the project undone with most of my money. Actually two rooms in one. These photos are a bit old and there's been a couple new additions plus some rearranging, but hope you enjoy. I know I sure do. When I need to be out in the woods, but can't, this is where I retreat...
One piece of advice, build it bigger than you think you'll need! Seriously.

Nice, Bryce! I really like the contrast of the wood ceiling. I may re-do mine.
The animals aren't too shabby either :-)
WaryBuck, Love those velvet bucks!! I guess you like to shed hunt!! Joe
Really nice guys, one thing you all have that i don`t is lot BIG whitetail s. :banghead:
Even my 13yr old Daughter Sara has a big buck.
KEEP EM COMING
Super man cave Bryce.
The velvet buck is actually an EHD pickup that a farmer buddy of mine found. Everything else mounted is a bowkill.
And that's only a small portion of the shed antlers. I've brought more indoors lately. I need to actually take some new pictures, because the room is constantly evolving. I also need to get some more of my classic shotshell boxes on display. Memory Lane...
Hey Biggie, What is that rug in front of the camo furniture made of? It looks like several hides sewed together. I didn't notice it at first I kept going back to the treadmill. That looks like one of those "Wich one of these things doesn't belong"? assignments my 5 year old gets for homework.
Here's some pics from my "man land". I agree with the comments about big is better. I am already out of room, and still have 6 african animals and a whitetail to put up.
Bryce, your room is awesome!
Can anyone guess who made the pheasant stand?

Has anyone looked into raising an existing 8' ceiling rather than a new addition? I have a nice elk that has to stay in my garage due to lack of height. Any contractors out there have any advice?
Greg that is exactly what it is. Several gazelle hides sticthed together. Bought that one. Everything else, (except the bass) was killed with a longbow or recurve.
It can be none for sure, if you lived in maryland i could put you on some top notch contractors that i use an work with. My only advice is make sure you get a quality contractor if the jobs none right it should be open up an weathered in in short order that takes man power an things being coordinated properly. If not it will turn in to a nightmare
thats a nice beaver chewed log you got there, Lon.
Dont raise the ceiling, just have your elk converted to a pedastal mount. Lots cheaper.

A couple of my room. Several additions to come (bobcat, sitka blacktail, zebra, impala, blesbok, alligator, booner whitetail). Had to build the room so my wife would let me continue to hunt.
Ray whos that skinny guy beside the BIG elk??? :) just playing......I like that pedastal
Hope to see ya soon
Ray every time I see that elk I start drooling!
Beautiful Sable, Ray. :notworthy:
Well I've nothing like what is posted above but my "War room" is in my workshop.
The next house that I'll build I'm allowed to have a room all to myself, gee thanks honey!

AK.
AK I love the arrow can and router setup - guess us Southern hemisphere boys all think alike.
Lon, I love the chewed-on beaver log stand/table. Never seen anything like it before, but very cool.
A couple pieces of advice I was given before starting my project was to put heavy plywood under the drywall so I could hang heads anywhere instead of looking for studs. Also the lighter side walls provide a good contrast for game heads and less confusion. But I also wanted some wood "grain" in the room, hence the knotty cedar on the ceiling and the simulated stuff on the floor. Also, most mounts are more impressive closer to the floor, so if you want a fair amount of furniture in there, but insist on it being back up against the wall, it really reduces your mounts' attractiveness/impressiveness. I balked at making my room wider to save one of about six nearby trees. I now wish I'd cut that one tree (just a cottonwood anyway) down to make the room 5 to 10' wider. Long and skinny is better than nothing, but square and big is preferable IMHO.
My room would be an embarrasment to show pics of.... just a room in my pole barn that I keep heated and all my "stuff" in. A few pictures, some bass fishing plaques, some "michigan" racks tacked up, my gun safe, reloading equipment, archery stuff, and a mini fridge to keep the beverages cold. Sure beats storing my stuff in the house tho'. Come in from ice fishing, peel off the carharts and hang em up, throw the boots on the boot dryer, crack a cold one, and commence to cleaning crappies.....
I'm jealous guys- I'm raising 3, one in high school now, 2 in jr high, I've got a while to go before finances begin to "free up" allowing me to hunt more out of state.
Geez David, don't be embarrassed. We've all been there! I LIKE the original rooms :-)
I did the same as Bryce. Plywood behind the sheetrockmand white walls for contrast. I also added the double french door that opens to the outside should I ever be as good (or as lucky) as Ray and have a big elk to bring in. Be sure and shade your windows well! I'm sure all the taxidermists on here will tell you that sunlight is hard on your mounts.
Very nice displays folks.
Biggie, that is alot of fine critters and stuff.
Al, That is an outstanding use of infant formula cans and electrical tape! :clapper:
I wish I'd taken my camera to Ray's place !!
You just don't get true perspective on the Elk and Sable on here.
They are even bigger and more beautiful than the pics allow. And, watching Ray's eyes as he relives and tells the story; PRICELESS.
Nice rooms!
I would like to see the 'starter' rooms as well....
Here's a couple of our living room...added on a couple years back, two buddies and myself spent every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day on this. I have some good friends! 6X12 eastern white pine sidewalls, 1X12 ship lap pine siding above. Bunch of work, but well worth it!

Goes without saying all animals are trad bow kills. The only things not finished are the muskox base and my '08 whitetails - the one on the left is a 150 inch 5X5 from Iowa and the one on the right is a 140 inch 5X5 with some burr points from Indiana.
Ryan
thats my grandpop's sable...not mine. Ryan I really like that stair bannister/rails with the elk antler pattern in it!
Nice pics of some very nice rooms guys!
Ryan,
I see you got your muskox mount back. Very nice!
Jason
Pulled the horse trailer out to Iowa to bring him back in. Don't know if anyone took a peek in the trailer on the way back...if so I wonder what went thru their minds to see that critter standing in there?!
R
Ryan, fantastic room and mounts. Your dad did a great job on the Javelina and Muskox. Congrats on the 08 buck. A 140" buck in Indiana is a major accomplishment! Tell your lovely wife I said hello! What's next Ryan?
Yea Ryan, that Muskox is awesome! The room you built is also very nice.
Fantastic room, Ryan!!!! :notworthy:
Ryan,
How were those big planks to work with? I'm gonna start on a hunting den in the near future and am considering something similar to yours. Anything you might have done different?
Awesome rooms...just awesome.
Very nice stuff everybody!!!
All I can say is wow to some of you guys. Very cool rooms indeed. I've only been hunting two years now and have only a piece of doe hide and a squirrel hide. Great stuff!
Great start! It takes time.........
WOW you guys are my heros. I thought mine was great till I saw theese. See the post "Man Room to Die For."
Amazing rooms guys!!!! i`m in the middle of a addition.... trophy room - living room, an hope to post some pics if i can figure out how.,...I hope you don`t mind if i steal some ideas:) One things for sure i don`t have any of those big whitetails yet,,, still waiting
Mike
I bought all the lumber from Wholesale Log Homes - down south, I think S.Carolina? Not sure. They are on the internet. You buy by the lineal foot, choose your dimensions and grooved or not etc and they send a variety of lengths. I figured out cost and with drop shipping (expensive) it was still far less for the siding to get the boards from them than Menards, Lowes etc. The ship lap fit perfect - this was great lumber with very little waste - I would recommend this outfit highly. I've never had lumber of this quality and my buddy that built a log home or 2 was impressed as well. Don't get tounge-and-groove for inside siding - harder to fit up than ship lap for the big 16 footers! Also the air powered finish nailers are worth thier weight in gold for this work. The only thing I would do different is to buy the big logs kiln dried. For us "easterners" with humidity above 40% on average the non-dried logs are fine and we are not getting any more checking in the wood than the kiln dried logs usually have but they are VERY heavy wet. 16 footers in the 6X12 were all three of us stout guys could handle. I would have never gotten the top 3-4 rows stacked without my Kubota and hay forks on the bucket. I finished the inside with water based poly satin and I'm very happy with it.
TR - no big plans - just going to get serious about the whitetails (finally!) 3-4 states next year.
R
Thanks Ryan, Will definitely check in with them.
Almost done with my room just have electric and trim left. Hard to finish when its deer season..All bowkills.

waiting4fall,
Thanks for posting your mancave video. I did enjoy it since it is obvious you love what you are doing and love being in your mancave. Refreshing to see someone as enthused as you are about your hobby. Keep it up.
Up for others to enjoy
Nice displays boys- really enjoyed them
