ive been shooting cock feather out and i have extrem wear on the bottome hen feather i assume its from shelf contact (since i shoot of the shelf) ive read on the forums about shooting cock feather in i was wondering if there was another way of getting around the wear problem. It doesnt affect accuracy but if :archer: does wear the fletching out quickly could this be a nocking point issue? thanks for the input
Raising the nock point a little should solve the problem. Turning cock feather in would do the same, but that sometimes leads to the hen feather hitting the index finger of the bow hand, and if the feather isn't smooth on its leading edge, it can cut the finger.
I shot with cock feather out for 20yrs and always had the bottom hen wear, sometimes with a dozen shots...even with arrows tuned very well....so one day I decide to try it cock in and have shot that way for three years now and feathers still look brand new after 100's of shots...no wear at all.....
No reason to go back.....
i agree i shoot cock feather in most of the time because of the same problem like guru my problem was fixed. some bows just wear on the feather when shot cock feather out, could be the shape of the shelf could be knock a little to low.
I too experienced the same thing in the past. Even when the bow was tuned, as well as I could get it then, I would have the same wear.
I now shoot with the cock feather at the twelve o'clock position, allowing for a channel between the shelf and the sight window. Since doing so, I have experienced two wonderful things, a much better tune, and no wear on the feathers of my arrows.
Leaving a gap between shelf and strike plate, as Scott mentioned above, has eliminated bottom hen feather wear for me as well. I also shoot cock feather out. I may try shooting cock feather up as well.
By the time my hen feather shows wear the rest of the feathers and arrow is pretty beat up too. .
I shoot 3x 5.5" with full helical and Flight seems uneffected by any wear.
