OK, This will be Our second Traditional Winter Bow hunt and January is just around the corner. This hunt was done in Zone 4 last year. I'm game for it to be used again.
This Hunt is opened to any & all Traditional Bow Hunters. For NJ Hunting license
ClickHere. (http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/als/websalesintro.htm)
So We need a Date & a Roll Call. The Dates are Jan 3,10,17,24 & 31. I'm good on anyone of them, or we can do like last year and have 2 dates. Again anyone is good with me.
Again all is Welcomed...
mysticguido 24 & 31 (just for picks) No Football those days..
I pull a 24 on the 16th so I get out at 8am saturday the 17 and I work the 24th. So 24th is out for me and the 17 is up inthe air depending how busy it is.
I know I have to hunt every off day we only got 6 deer this year so far and I need 14 more to make the dinner so there will be lots of woods time on my boots lol
Tom, Your more then welcome to hunt till the end of deer season in February. Hell we can even have a hunt in February. there is lots of Land around here in Zone 10.
I'm gonna have some trouble getting out during the late season with my work schedule, but I'll make it if I can. Tom, I'll see if I can help out a bit.
I should be good for any one of those days except the 3rd because I might be picking up a NEW BOW!!!!
Zone 4 is a touch far for me, but I might be able to make a trip for a day.
pat sounds good buddy id appreciate it!!
let me know the days you go out if im around ill bring the new puppy for a "walk" lol
Will do, Tom. I'll see if we can't put his nose to use.
how far is it from NE Pa? I'm in the Hazleton area. Sounds like a blast and I hear Nj is loaded with deer.
Do you know where the Delaware Water Gap is? just a little North of that.
Dave, this is a Day hunt. We do a drive with stick in hand. Then move to another area & do another drive. Brake for lunch, then back at it again.
Lots of BSing and having fun with other Tradganger's. It is worth a trip.
Sounds awesome once the date is set I will make a point to get there.
Last day in zone 10 is Saturday February 21st, 2009. Might start a end of season hunt thread.
Hey guys, I'm in on whatever date you choose. Are we going to do a sit in the am and do some drives after that? Jason
This hunt, is it on public or private property?? I`m new to New Jersey hunting season. I bought a 08 license an is it valid for jan 09 or is it good just through the calender year? THANKS
Count me in!!
PETE
I know that my son and I are in again this year. We had a blast meeting and hunting with everyone of our new friends. I'm pretty sure that Reiner and Tom aka Bentpole are in too.
Hattrick you will need a new 2009 NJ licence.
Guys there is also the WMA here in zone 6. Reiner and I know a lot of drives we can do. There is a diner close by we can meet at for breakfast too.
count me in

Yes it is on public land (State Land). A NJ lic is only good from January 1 to December 31 of that year. You would need to get a 2009 NJ Lic.
Larry, that's kool now we have another spot..
I could probably sneel out for one or two weekends towards the end of the month. I'll be moving the first week in January so the honey do list will be pretty long I'm sure.
The zone 6 spot fits the bill for me too. Larry-where is that at wildcat ridge right? I hope to get some scouting on hamburg mtn this coming year as my new house will be adjacent to a small piece of it on the back side in vernon. Skippy
I might be able to swing it once a solid date is set. It is a long haul for me, though.
doug A where do you live at?
I come from brick in ocean county and my carpool buddy pat lives 20min north of me.
I would like to make it at least once.I don't know how long I can last with walking and driving through woods with a bum foot, but at the least meet everyone.I might hitch a ride with lodestar.
Frank, You can be a sitter/shooter.
Sal,I appreciate it.I want to try to do my part driving just might be alittle slow.Looking forward meeting everyone,Frank.
Frank,
It would be a good thing to slow the drives down anyway.
bentpole will be there. Absolutely. I just hope the Tri-State Terrors will be there. I'll have to remind Alex as well. Just spoke to Alex he's in. He said the middle of the month might be tuff with work though.
yea the faster the drives the faster the deer move...last year they were moving mach 3!
these are pushes not drives guys. the difference:
drive: walk through the woods lots of noise and at a fast pace to confuse the deer and have them scatter to be ambushed by waiting shooters. all their focus is on the guys walking and so worried about getting away they dont focus on the standers.
push: queitly move through the woods slowely not to scare the deer simply "push" them in the direction you want. the deer will keep on their normal travel patterns to gvet away from the unfamiliar approaching body. they wont be frightfull though simply moving out of the area before the intruder finds them...normally walking.
a drive they high tail it out and regain composer later a push they simply move out of the area and circle back at a later time. they move slowely and without many fears of danger. we need to push not drive...even with a gun its not easy shooting a deer moving 75mph let alone a trad bow.
How about the 31st of January 2009.
Skippy yes wild cat is where I'm talking about. Been hunting there for a few years and Reiner and I know the area pretty well.
Sal would Eric be interested in going? I haven't heard from him in a while and I hope that he is doing well.
Don't forget to let Jerry and Vaughn in on this too.
Deadbolt, I'm down in Cumberland County. Millville to be exact. It's about a three hour drive from here to the Rt. 80 bridge. I would go up the NE extension of the PA Turnpike.
Larry, I just heard from him last night & Today. He got a 3 pointer with the boom stick. I'll send him a link of this thread. I think he will want to come.
Got My 2009 NJ Archery License Today.... Count Me In! (That's if you'll have me)
... mike ...
mike sent you a PM. What about NEW YEARS DAY!!?? Oh maybe you guys will be all hungover? I know Reiner,Steve, and myself won't be. SEASON opens NEW YEARS DAY!

i get off of work 8am new years day! but if its anythign like last year ill be shot!! in 24 hours we did 21 calls and within those 21 calls we had 16 car accidents (4 extrications) 1 house fire and a few medicals! Man what a hellish day!
I'll be hunting around my place...Lopat, sweet hollow or behind the house.
Thanks Sal I'm glad Eric was able to get out and do some hunting. Happy for him on that deer too! Good shooting Eric!
I just got bad news from work. I have to work the day after Christmas,so much for the small game outting I wanted to do with the Reiner unless we go in the morning at Wild Cat. I also have to work Jan 2, 2009 on the afternoon shift.
I am off on Christmas Eve. Anyone want to hook up and try hunting with me?
Well....due to a new work schedule..my 12 hr shift schedule has been moved. For 2009...I work Wed-Fri one week, next week Wed-Sat...5pm-5am. Since Jersey still has NO Sunday hunting, the only days I will be bowhunting in January will be Mon/Tues.
Basically, I have 15 days off a month and work 15. Plenty of time to hunt and fish but not around the "normal" working crowd. I'll be Zone 4 hitting Stokes and surrounding areas heavy. Anyone want to tag along just PM me. Maybe I can convince Iron Mike Ciccone to join me...
Enjoy the hunting fellas, keep us all posted.
I might take you up on it, Don't know yet if I'll have gas money.
ttt
I could probably get there for the 17th? I'll be outa town the first few days of jan.
I have the "GO" for any and all Saturday's in January. Please keep me updated as to what the plan of attack is.
... mike ...
I'm flying out to see my wife in Oklahoma on New Years Eve and will be gone until Jan 11th. I'll try to get out with you guys after that.
Are we hunting Zone 4 on Saturday, January 3rd?
... mike ...
January 3rd sounds darn good to me. Let me know I'll tell Bucky, Alex, Reiner, Larry, and Steve. :archer: Hope most of the TRI-STATE TERRORS will be there. :coffee:
The third sounds ok to me. I just have to get my 09 licence. I'll call Reiner.
By the way Reiner and I hit the woods this afternoon at our zone 6 WMA. We cut tons of deer tracks there. Lets keep this place in mind for winter bow guys. We also saw about 25 turkeys, cut a couple bear tracks too but not the numbers we saw last year up in zone 4.
Great! Looking Foward To It! Someone please inform me of meeting time and location.
... mike ... :archer: ...
Larry, any rabbits or squirrels? Mike, we usually meet at JUMBOLAND on Route 206 .
Hi Everyone,
I've been avoiding this thread because again this year, I just gotta work. I'd sure love to have breakfast with you all again though. Usual 5:30 at Jumboland Tom?
Ron
That's good for me Ron! :banghead: OH BROTHER! What are you doing with all that money Bud!!! :goldtooth: :biglaugh:

I hope I'll be able to make it. I've been so busy trying to get Lee his first deer that I haven't really been on here in a LONG time. It was just pure luck that I popped in and this thread was up near the top.
I have to go to the hospital tomorrow and again on New Year's Eve for some tests. Then I have an appointment with my surgeon next week to schedule my surgery. I have a feeling he's gonna want to get me in there ASAP after these tests. That'll be the end of my season, at least with the bow.
I sure hope you can make it Eric. I'll keep my fingers crossed and put in a word for you to the Big Boss.

Spending it faster than its coming in, that's what!
:biglaugh:
No, we're going to Kalamazoo this year (Jan 30th-Feb 2nd) and there aren't enough days left between now and then as it is!
I'd love to get out there and show you guys how it's done but, I know very well that if there's a group of guys anywhere in the world that can get together and kill some deer.... Oh yea, those are different guys... sorry, you guys will just have to do the best you can!
:biglaugh:
I still want to meet you guys at Jumboland. So is it Jan 3rd or the 3rd Saturday in Jan?
Ron
I don't think I can hunt Jan. 3rd...my mother-in-law is coming up to visit, and the wife has already told me that the only way I'm getting out of the house is in a pine box.
But, I might be able to sneak out early to head to Jumboland for breakfast.
HUH? :scared: Pine Box? What's up with that Eric!!??
Bring your mother in law with you Eric. I'm sure she might make a good driver. She can drive out Bear Alley.
YEH YEH BEAR ALLEY!!!! :scared: :scared:
Well I think I'm done with the rest of the season & winter bow too. I pulled something in my shoulder & back. I'm all hooped up on pain meds now and the Doc said "NO HEAVY LIFTING OR PULLING" I just started a new bow too so no work on that either.
I Go see another Dr on Wednesday & I have to get x-rays too.
Good Luck to all.
I don't think I'll be making it on the 3rd, but I have some scouting report for you all doing mine road. I was out for a walk this morning and located two big bucks! This was in the area near Van Campen's Glenn. I know it's a bit farther down river then most of you have been hunting, but I also saw a bunch of other deer too. If you are interested I could give better directions to the area I was. Tom (bentpole) you might know it. The opposite side of the road from the big lake just south of Mill Brook.
Bummer Sal! Jerry I was wondering about Vaughn and yourself. Yes I know the Millbrook area.Send me a PM! Hope to see you two sometme during January.
I Hope The Weather Holds Out.... "I Hope Your Tail Holds Out!" ... Might have some fresh snow Saturday.
... mike ... ...
OK here's the scoop. I spoke to Alex ,he bought his license he's ready for Saturday. :wavey: I think Joe Skipp has to work? :banghead: Almost forgot Mike mcgroundstalker. This will be Mikes first year with us.
That stinks Sal, get healed up soon.
Jerry,
Thansk for the tip on the bucks!
I'm here at work on New Years Eve...will be here until 5am. Really gonna miss hitting the woods with you fellas. I have to check my January schedule and see what days I will be free to head down and bowhunt. I'll keep in touch...looks like Zone 4 all the way. Got to get my license next week too....
I think I can make it Sat morning. Tom give me a call please at home.
Larry, I'll give you a shout tonight. Going to Manhattan with my parents, sister and brother in law. SATURDAY WOOOFAAA!!!
Thanks Tom
Joe Skipp check your work schedule 'cause I'm off fridays until futher notice. I know Alex is game for Fridays too.
Guys bring your CAMERAS!!!!!! :archer: :jumper:
I don't own a camera... Can I bring a box of crayons and some copy paper?
See Ya At Jumboland... If I Can Find It.
... mike ... :jumper: ...
Mike
Jumbo Land is on 206 N. Past the enterance of Stokes.
Thank You... See Ya There! :)
... mike ...
Mikey....what the heck are you doing here at 3am? You should be heading down to Jumboland for a big breakfast...bring your walking shoes....and dont be afraid to "put some wood in the air"....
heys guys have fun out there be safe and drop the string!!
maybe next week or the week after im game for sure!
Hey Skipper. Hit the road at 4am. Got to Jumboland at 5:30. Met the crew and had a wonderful time. Gonna do this as much as I can! Thank You for the invite. You are a first class bunch.
... mike ... :archer: ...
What........No pics? Wish I was there but had to pay some bills.
We will have pictures! Alex took some real beauties! Bucky took some on his camera phone as well. Any way it was good to get together again. I haven't seen most of the boys in months. We had a couple of first timers. Mike mcgroundstalker and my Bud Steve [doesn't go on computers] Good to see Mikey[bamboo] out and about after his recent surgery he was a real trooper. We went all the way down to Hamburger Hill first before anyone else pushed it. You have to realize this is a four ledge mountain. It takes around 20 minutes to get the standers set up. Then the pushers have to do the same on the other end. The mistake we made is the top pusher{ME} should have started first with a couple of minutes in between so any deer pushed will head down the next ledge to the next pusher to start a snowball effect :scared: We put another drive on across the street NOTHING. I figured we should do the table top drive next. On the way up we spotted some deer and made attempts to stop and organize. The most deer [3 does ] I saw were in a bunch of cedars around the Walpack Inn but there were "No Hunting" signs on the trees :readit: Made it up to The Table Top. I'm glad to see the Farmers left some standing corn.Bucky, Alex and Vaughn[deadsimple] pushed the Top. Bucky had 3 deer in front of him. They were going towards Vaughn. We never saw them. A quick lunch and two more drives. The first Scott [southpawshooter] had two deer cross the road in front of him before we could get started. :bigsmyl: If anyone wants to get together let us know. Reiner and Larry know a bunch of drives we can do. Reiner has been hunting there for many years and has seen a good number of deer in his hunts there.
The cast of characters - left to right
Deadsmple, Alex B., bentpole, Reiner, recurve50lbs, southpawshooter, bamboo, mcgroundstalker, Steve
Missing from the photo is the cameraman, Bucky.

The hero of the hunt - this man is the toughest SOB on the planet. I won't go into details here but believe me I doubt that anyone that has gone through what he has recently would have been out on this hunt. You just can't keep a good man down. I'm darn proud to call him my friend.
Looks like you guys had fun. Hay Mike nice bow.
Amen to that Scott! Great Friends= Great Time! Hope to see everyone next Saturday!
Man I had a GREAT time yesterday. Saw some good friends and made a new one too. See you guys next week.
Correction Vaughn is Deadsmple sorry Bud.
Got your back Tommy, edited post LOL
Darn! I know I missed some fun there. Great to see Bamboo toughing it out. That's dedication.
looks like everyone had a great time
Looks like another great afternoon with the Jersey Boys :p ;)
Fine bunch of hunters and yes...Thank God ol Mikey is back in Action! :wavey:
Glad to see you fellas didn't lose Iron Mike Ciccone in any holes or gullies...hope he had his "Pink On" yesterday... :o
I'm heading down tomorrow to buy my license, can't hunt the afternoon...have to attend a wake.
Can't miss it....I'll probably get the lowdown of the hunt from Ciccone...then I'll call Bamboo or Scott up to get the truth >>>LOL
Hey Joe,
Hope that you can make it down for next Saturdays Adventure.
Hello Sal how's the back? Can you make it up here too?
Eric hows about you? Did your mother in law go home yet?
We want to try our little WMA a shot on Saturday. Reiner and I were in there a week ago and it had tons of deer sign all over the place. We know plenty of drives we can do and places to sit of the evening hunt.
Nope, I'm done for this season.. I start rehab Monday
Joe about that MC guy. First thing he did Saturday morning was take out that pink hat with the feathers. :scared:  It was right before we hit Hamburger Hill. :readit: He was OK though. Kept on taking out the Mozzarella and the dried salami. :biglaugh : Joe as far as Mikey goes; he was as pert as a ruttin, buck!
Looks like a good time out there boys...that's one hell of a crew haha!! If you guys are doin it again in 2 weeks I may be able to make it!
Hey... Is that Chico Marx standing on the bridge in Scotts photo? Well, my wife thinks so.....
... mike ...
P.S. Skipp, my friend. I tried to represent Team Pink but your friends from NJ said I should put that hat away where no one can see it. :p Glad the mozzarella was a hit. Next week I'll bring some road kill. ;)
Deadbolt we need you and Patrick there for your young legs. :scared: That's zone 6 right?
Nice...
You guys put any deer out?
Dave only the first drive. Hamburger Hill. It had the sun on it. Pushed a button buck around on the top and had 4 deer run past Alex too fast for a shot. Read what I wrote on page 6.
Guys,
Wild Cat is in zone 6. There is a chance we could be shareing it with smoke pole hunters so bring something to wear in flourescent orange just to be on the safe side of things.
Another request we will ask is that if you have a "Talk About" type of walkie talkie radio please bring it along so that we can coordinate the drives easier and to also communicate better with each other. This area seems to be a "Black Hole" for cell phone usage.
I'll add more info as I get it this week.
Radios and wearin' something orange sounds like a good idea if other hunters are in the area.
... mike ... :) ...
Zone 6 3 points on one side guys...I use to hunt sparta mtn man its ruff hunting!!
Can't wait to make one of these...ill take the "tuff" stuff again just asdk reiner LOL!!!!
tom, zone 6 is not 3 points or better,it used to be.
QuoteOriginally posted by BUCKY:

glad to hear they changed it...gun hunters made it pretty hard int he late season to connect on horns.
Bucky is right
Ok guys,
We can meet for breakfast at the Hibernia Diner Saturday morning. They are open 24 hours. The diner is just north of Rt 80 exit 37 on Green Pond Road.
I'll let you guys know what time to be there but 6 AM or a bit earlier seems right to me. Let me know what you think.
Hibernia Diner Open 24 hours now!!! YEH HAH! French Toast!!!! :readit: Yum Yum. Larry I'll call you and get directions for the easiest way to get there. :help: Hope everyone makes it.
I'm Gonna Be There! So long as weather permits the drive in. I had too much fun last Saturday. You are a great bunch of fellas. Even though Tom wouldn't let me wear my Team Pink hat. :p
... mike ... :D ...
For you guys that are interested in joining us this Saturday at Wild Cat Ridge WMA it is located in Rockaway Township in Morris County.
Again there could be some Muzzle Loader hunters shareing the woods with us so I would advise wearing some sort of hunter orange while moving through the woods. In the past during this time of year there have not been many gun hunters in these woods but just to be a little safer I'd wear some orange.
If any of you have any walkie talkies such as the "Talk About" please bring it along. We can coordinate the drives better using them because cell phones just don't seem to work reliably up there.
This should be a lot of fun. So far all of the Winter Bow hunts we have done since last year have been great times with some cool people.
Are the radios leagal to use in New Jersey? I was told they are not, but i like the idea for safety. Just a FYI
I've never seen a thing in the hunter's digest saying that radios are illegal to use. I read it cover to cover several times. We are just using them to let the drivers know when the standers are set up in place so they can start their drives and for safety. Besides I never saw a radio kill a deer.....has anyone?
If you guys wouldn't mind having us my buddy bobbonj and I would like to tentively join in...
It's an open hunt Granpa. All are welcome, the more the merrier. Only thing is, I won't be making it again because I'm going to pick up MY NEW BOW!!!!!!
NEW BOW!!?? Jerry I'm calming down and your buying bows!!?? What's up with that? Another Mahantango? Angelo, Absolutely! Your welcome! I saw you at the Spring Whittingham Shoot didn't get a chance to introduce myself.
Jerry I wish you and Vaughn could come this Saturday but new bows are new bows. I understand. Try to make the next gathering ok.
radios are legal...nothing wrong with them. no electronic calls though.

Yep, she's gone for a few more months now.
I'd really like to make it this week, but I have to take Lee out with his shotgun. He's put in some tough days in the woods this season and hasn't pulled the trigger yet. Since he's only home every other weekend, I want to get him out every chance I can.
I should be able to make it next weekend, as long as the doc doesn't have me in the hospital by then.
Hey Bamboo your looking pretty good  looks like it may have been cold that day.
Eric,I hope every thing works of OK!
Eric Have fun with Lee. We'll be looking for you on the next hunt.
better every day jim-thanks
it started out cold w/stiff wind !!
So who's gonna be there for breakfast Saturday morning at the Hibernia diner at 5:30 -6AM? Looking for some kind of head count so as to figure the drives out.
Hey Ciccone, must be you have a pretty face. my wife seen your picture and thought you were a girl, imagine that :scared: Turns out she had mistaken your hood for long flowing hair.
LMAO!!!  :jumper:
Good one Stone Knife....
I'll be there Saturday Larry, so will Steve. :scared:  :scared: :biglaugh: Alex said he will be there around 6:15 ,6:30 who else?
Hey Jim! Can you spell "pay-back"? :p
Hey Skipper! Go get a haircut! :p
Larry... Tom... If we get this snow storm I may not make it out there. If it holds out for the drive in..... Maybe. I know you'll understand. Oh, but fresh tracking snow.... Talk Me Into It!
... mike ...
Mike, you gotta go man. :readit: Put the truck into 4 wheel high and hit the road. :saywhat:
Fresh snow WAY COOL!
If you have more than 6" of snow....and Ciccone shows up wearing Snow Camo...
Better tie a cow bell around his neck so you can locate him on drives... :scared: :jumper:
Joe are you saying Mike is a little short in stature? If we get an inch of snow tomorrow we'll let him wear his pink hat so we can keep track of him.
Sometimes... Just sometimes I wish Wood Only had a PC so you guys would pick on him instead. But then, it's kinda funny being the punchin' bag. Don't ya think?
... mike ... :D ... French Toast?... Mmmmmmm.....
There not pick-in on you Mike, it's a show of the love :bigsmyl: or around water.
:biglaugh:
I LOVE YOU GUYS! Hey Scott... Are ya gonna make it out there Saturday?

Man what a great day it was today with all you guys. We saw some deer, more than last week and the weather was not a real problem at all. The woods were a bit crunchy up in the higher elevations and the new snow made things look beautyful. Hope we can do it again next week. Same place same time?
Larry...Where did you guys hunt? I did a little squirrel hunting in Farney SP and got one. Everything was covered in ice and nothing was moving I was lucky to get a shot at the one squirrel. I drove around WR a bit but must of missed the spot you guys parked as I didn't see many if any vehicles.
Did you guys take pictures?
Hey Mike,
We started down along Meridan Rd and Lionsville. Then up to Upper Hibernia Rd. We had a pretty big convoy today.
covered some nice ground today!!
thanks guys!!
Yep...I drove by the spots at the wrong time.
Did John hook up with you?
What? no pics for the day? I know there are some great views on Wildcat Ridge in the snow. Sorry I missed all the fun with you guys today but Jerry and I had to go get our new bows. I posted some pics and a short story here. (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=069198)
Hope you all got home safe.
Cant wait for the results.
Hey boys. Sorry I couldn't go with you guys today, but I was visiting my wife in Oklahoma. It looks like it has been pretty cold around these parts. Here are some pics from hiking/stump shooting in the Ouchita mountains of SE Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. Temps in the upper 60's, but I tried not to work up too much of a sweat. ;)
Notice the short sleeves.

Let me know when you guys are headed out again. If I don't have to work, I'll be there.
Mikey took a few pictures in the parking lot. I'm glad everyone made it home safe and sound. :scared: We did cover alot of ground. We all met up at the Hibernia Diner had a great big breakfast and hit the road.I was glad to see everyone again. :readit: We actually did 5 drives I believe. The rubs we saw yesterday!. The trails and runs we saw were amazing too. .The ground was VERY CRUNCHY AND ICY! That didn't help. But we did kick up some deer. On the second drive I was high man at the base of a ridge. A nice buck got up out of a blowdown on the top. He let me get to around 40/50 yards. He stood up and bolted in the direction we just came from. That same drive Reiner had 4 does in front of him that never hit the standers. The 4th drive pushed out a few.The last one I pushed 2 or 3 in between Reiner and Alex, no shots. That drive it was snowing so hard I got turned around. Well it worked to our advantage. . At the end of our day standing in the parking lot we had a buck walk the ridge we just drove. :banghead: Hopefully the weather will be a little better next week. It's supposed to be cold. We have to figure out where we want to go.If possible maybe we can do Bear Swamp and Trout Brook up by Vaughns? We didn't do Walpack or Flatbrook-Roy yet either. Patrick great pictures Bud! Hope to see all you good folks soon!
ICY is an understatement Tom. Soon as I got home I called Cabelas to order them there Yaktrax Traction Devices. Same as Larry wore. They were SOLD OUT! :( Even tried QVC... Sold Out Also. Think I'm gonna have to make somethin' myself. (Wife says I'm Nuts!)
Anyway.... It was a great day with all you fellas!
... mike ...
MC Hammer did you try Bass Pro and Orvis? I like falling down and gettin' up and fallin' down.

Well, if you guys are going out next weekend, I'm gonna try to make it. Lee and I sat all day Saturday. Lee thinks he saw a bear about 150 yards out. Other that that...nothing!
I won't know for sure till Wednesday night. Lee wants to talk to his mother to see if he can stay home to hunt for a few hours Saturday morning.
We can also try a few pushes around here sometime. Sal and I both know a couple of areas pretty well, and there is alot of land around Clinton WMA, although I've only been back there a couple of times in the past few years.
My season will be over January 31. I have surgery scheduled for February 2. God willing, I'll be back in action in plenty of time for Whittingham.
Pete good to see you again. I haven't seen you the Spring Whittingham Shoot. Your always welcome Bud! That Widow is a work of art. That bow got more looks yesterday than a naked women on the beach. Eric sounds good Bud hope to see you then. Alex won't be there next weekend. He'll be in Alabama.
Even if Lee stays home to hunt Saturday morning, I'll at least try to meet you guys for the afternoon. Tom, I think I still have your cell #.
Eric sent you a PM Bud.
Eric sent you a PM Bud.
Eric sent you a PM Bud.
Holy mackerel, where are the pics from yesterday???????????????????
You guys out East, are killing me...
Gotta work in the afternoon this coming saturday, so I will have to stay local. Unfortunately, I will be working overnight on the following friday, so I won't get out until the afternoon that saturday. My January schedule sucks.
Well I work a 24 friday 8am into saturday 8am. Ill bring my gear if I get a few hours of downtime ill swing up there and do some pushes!!!
You guys doin the Gap again?
Happy me just got into www.sportsmansguide.com (http://www.sportsmansguide.com) and ordered a pair of STABILicers Ice Cleats. Now, when I get 'em I'll be slip, fall, crash and idiot proof! Well, kinda.
... mike ...
Mike slip fall and crash yea I can see that but that idiot part I don't know about that....gonna take more than ice cleats to help with that!!! Haha just joshin ya bud!
Mike I learned on Sunday at work that there are no gaurentees while wearing those things on your shoes. Don't ask about how I know ok.
you gonna make it deadbolt??
If deadbolt shows up, hope he brings the hat he wore at Saw Mill. We can use it for a practice target. ;)
... mike ... :D ...
Howdy Folks, just checked the weather for Montague Saturday. :scared: By the way MC Hammer I'm glad you bought those ice creepers Bud! Now we'll have balmy weather and no snow! :jumper:
sounds right to me tommy--those pushes havn't been done--and both had a pile of deer last year!!
Plus Mikey the last time we did the table top drive two weeks ago it wasn't done right. PLUS the pines you sat had fresh tracks and the pines where I sat on the otherside of the road was loaded with fresh tracks going towards the Delaware. At least they have the corn to hold them there.
Bentpole,
I met you down in my building in Jersey City a while back doing a job for Deutsche bank, you turned me on to this site and i just wanted to say thanks. I never figured out who you were till you posted pics on this thread.I'm all in now, got my set up and have been shooting alot. haven't taken anything with the widder ,but a few close calls! lol hopefully i'll bump into you at some of the local shoots this spring and we can B.S. Thanks again.

mike im gonna try my damndest to make it!! last tour in 24 hours we did 19 jobs and i got hammered the last 10 hours of the shift with no sleep.
As long as I get an hour or two of down time to rest damn straight I'll be there!!!
Well howdy Bill and welcome! All good folks here! You should try and hang out with us one Saturday if you don't have to work! We push some deer. Second year we're doing this. We're gettin' close but no cigars yet. DEADBOLT I sent you a PM TOM with my # . As far as I'm concerned I'll be in JUMBOLAND Saturday morning I guess around 6:00 or so? Is that good folks?
Bentpole,
We'll hook up this summer and do some shooting. I'm thinking of having a party/shoot at the house and have some of the jersey boys come over so we can all meet.I'm by Blairstown. We'll hook up.
Hold The Phone! HOLD THE PHONE! Larry said we were gonna meet in the same place. Would that be "Hibernia"? Now you say "Jumboland". I'll meet you guys anywhere. Just get it straight. :p
Anyway.... Don't look like I'm gonna get my ice cleats too soon. Might be by end of season. :(
... mike ...
BLAIRSTOWN!!!!WOOOOFAAAA. I used to hunt Cedar Lake[Limestone Ridge] when I could draw a button. Well there's the spring all TRAD Shoot at Whittingham and a another one in August ,but wheels are welcome too. You have to do the Spring Shoot A bunch of Trad Gangers go.
MC HAMMER Larry wants to do WILD CAT AGAIN?
????????????
???????????????? :knothead: :knothead:
Tom at the end of our outting last Saturday it sounded like we were gonna try Wild Cat agin this Saturday. Reiner and I still know a bunch more drives we can do there if you guys decide to go there. Besides we know places to sit for evening hunts. Maybe we can get the deer comming into these areas after being pushed by us all day. You guys decide what you want to do.
Tuff Call Larry gotta think......
I'll let the folks decide I'm game for anything. I'd really like to hit OLD MINE ROAD again though. I know it's a bit futher but I think we would have a better crack at some deer. If we met at say 6:00/ 6:30 wouldn't have to be up there that early. Corn fields and some standing corn left. Up to you folks though.
I'm game for some old mine road drivin....if I had my truck  Its in the shop!!
PETE
Let me know folks!
I said it once and I'll say it again. Being with you guys is well worth the drive. Now.... What Is It Gonna Be?
... mike ... :p ...
So far Steve and myself would like to hit OLD MINE. Maybe Vaughn and Jerry can make this one too? Mike and Scott what do you say? MC Hammer said either way he's in.
Vaughn and I are going to be in the area( old mine). not sure what we are doing yet.
come on guys, put down a deer....
Myself and big pete will be up at old mine road around 930-10am after I get out if work and pick him up!
There's a chance I might have to work tomorrow, won't know until later today. If no work, I'm in for Old Mine Road.
I can't make it up. Too many chores have been put off that need to get done. Maybe next week.
Larry cmon you gotta make it I got them seats for ya!!!

Hey joe that means u should be there just in time for breakfast lol!
Larry no problem bud ill leave em with a local for ya.
How about an update for those of us that couldn't make it today.
Whipped too tired to talk now.I guess the balmy -12 degrees this morning did it. Scott and Mikey on the way home Steve and I watched 5 HEALTHY DOES walk across the field on the edge of 560 sunny side push Steve and I did [second drive]. Back of the Table top. Gotta eat. Hope MC Hammer makes it home OK.
Was kinda tired on the drive back into the city tonight. Had to stay alert! So... I kept a moving picture in my mind of the walking away shot at Jumboland this morning..... :D Guess "dropin' the jelly" will have special meaning for us the rest of our lives.
Won't forget the message Pete had for me as he walked up the hill on the last push of the day. The wind was just right.
Oh Yea... Allow me to add that I messed up "The Corn Field Drive" cause I wasn't payin' attention. :( So Sorry... I Bad!
... mike ... :archer: ...
Jelly :bigsmyl:
Sorry I didn't stay out with you guys. The breakfast was good and glad I worked that first little drive. Had to do some shooting and hang time with Vaughn. New bows shot great! Had fun stumpin the swamp.
heya boys sorry we didn't shoot anything maybe next time. took me a bit over 3 hours to get home b/c i had to go back to work for a few minutes.
but it was all worth it b/c when i got home my new bob lee was waiting for me!!! 64" 56@28 man this thing shoot like a dream!!! can't wait to break it and and set her up properly!
Well, I'm glad everyone made it home safe and sound!Tom I forgot you had the longest ride. I want to thank you and Pete for the food and the reinforcements! Can you say HORSE RADISH!Venison Salami. It was good to see Joe from Franklin again.Yeh JELLY! WOOOFAAA! MC Hammer you did that on purpose! Saturday morning was he first time I saw -14 degrees on the Thermometer on the Yellow Cottage Deli .Jerry good to see you in Jumboland. We only had 6 for the County Garage Drive. Jerry and I pushed Scott, Mike,Steve, and MC stood. When I went in I pushed them out but the wrong way. I did push some turkeys back to Jerry. It was tuff, very cold. Jerry went to see Vaughn. Down to 5. We decided to push the sunny slope on the back of the Table Top.Steve and I drove. Some spots were so thick only a bird dog could get threw. I lost my hat twice. The beds, and sign in that area was unbelievable. NOTHING.Right after that we hookd up with Tom, Pete and Joe. We decided to push the hedgerows around the standing corn.Sun was on the corn too. Well if we did it the way we planned Joe or someone would have had a shot. I heard something coming at me threw the corn, I nocked an arrow, got ready to draw only to have MC pop out." Couldn't pass up all the fresh tracks in the corn" he said. You didn't mess up Bud. Joe walked half way threw the hedgerow and a lone deer [probably a button buck] got up and stopped around 30/35 yards in front of him.Went into the next corn field. No shot. After some snacks we drove down Old Mine Road . I stopped, we had a few deer in the cut corn feeding.Decided to let them be.Next was a push on some heavy pines Pete and myself used to hunt. NOTHING. Plenty of beds, tracks and sign again. On the way to the next drive I jammed on the brakes. MC almost rearended me. Saw a deer maybe 2. Got out of the truck and did a couple bleats had this deer coming back at me. I left my bow in DEADBOLTS truck. She decided all these folks in trucks wasn't right and took off. Bamboo thought I was getting ready to pet her. We did one more drive that again had plenty of sign but no deer.Seems like they were a step ahead of us all day. We covered a bunch of ground ,thickets, Sunny side of hills, cornfields and pines seems like these deer knew we were coming. Needless to say I wouldn't have passed up this day for anything. Great bunch of guys!
Man,
I got tired just reading the story Bud...
Great adventure....
:campfire:
Larry I have your two tree seats from DEADBOLT give me a call.
"Great Bunch Of Guys" is an understatement. Gotta be there to see how this crew works as a team. Only wish I got involved sooner.
... mike ... :archer: ...
YOOOO HAMMER! How cold was it? Cold enough to freeze Mikey Bamboos digital camera.
Tom I just picked up the seats. Nice job bud thank you.
So are we going back to Wild Cat Ridge next Sat? We still know drives we didn't touch last week. What do you guys think......
I'm only the FNG so I can't make that decision. :(
... mike ...
just as we were getting our packs on to start the 2nd push a NJ trooper stopped and asked if we were F%$@# crazy!!his expression was pricless!!
it had probably warmed up to -9* by then!!
But he (the trooper) knew the answer to that question before he asked us! I mean... Just take a look at us.
... mike ...
Hey MC Mike Your opinion is just as important as the next guy. What do you think?
Bamboo Mike I wonder how many tickets that trooper wrote that day being so darn cold... Are you game for next Saturday?
Hibernia ... Jumboland ... Hibernia ... Jumboland ... Hibernia is closer to me but Jumboland has JELLY! :jumper:
I'd like to leave it up to you "Group Leaders". All the same, same to me. I'm game for whatever, unless ya want to vote on it.
... mike ...
Brrr, I'm getting cold just by reading your stories. Very nice read, keep'em coming, guys
Bet I knew the trooper Mike. :biglaugh:
Mikey bamboo I completely forgot about the trooper!!! :readit: I sure would like to check out WALLPACK especially around the INN. :saywhat:
Hey What about The Skipper!!?? Does he still have to work this Saturday? :banghead:
Just got my "STABILicers" ice cleats via UPS. They are made very well.... But are a bit too small to wear over my boots. My mistake. Gotta get another pair a little larger. Whatever.
... mike ... :banghead: ... Thank Goodness For Plastic Money.
I was bowhunting Jersey today...spent the day sitting and stillhunting. Still a tad crunchy under the soft snow. Tried to take some pics because it was real pretty out there...but the cold sapped my batteries :scared:
I will be there Saturday, just spoke with Bamboo about an hour ago. Tri State Terrors will be at full strength..... :saywhat:
TRI-STATE TERRORS @ full strength!  :D :wavey:  Better pack the Depends! :notworthy:
WONDERFUL! Can't wait to watch Joe eat pizza for breakfast! Did ya get a haircut yet? Geeezzzz.
... mike ...
A day of drives needs more than Pizza...more like my usual....4 eggs, double order of toast, bacon, home fries, juice, coffee....then top it off with some Levi.... :scared:
You Da Man Joe! You Da Man....... :D
... mike ...
Sussex or Wild Cat Where we hunting?
Can't make it this weekend sorry gotta work!
Wallpack has a lot of deer but stay away from them hills hit the flats and the thickets they are herded up in the nasty crap!
Good Question Larry.
... mike ...
I say WALLPACK. :readit: Anybody? :saywhat: Who wants to hunt this Saturday? :bigsmyl:
Me! Me! ME!!! Looking foward to it. Just tell me what diner to meet you guys at. I don't care where we hunt. It's all good...... Shall I Bring JELLY donuts?
... mike ... :archer: ...
Well MC HAMMER if we go to WALLPACK we will eat breakfast at JUMBOLAND :saywhat:  :banghead:

If I get out of work on time, I should be able to make it for the afternoon.
Reiner and I want to stay closer to home and hit Wild Cat this Sat.
Saturday can't come too soon........
Good Luck Larry and Reiner! :archer: Same time at JUMBOLAND? Around 6:00? :coffee: :goldtooth:
What Tom said... Best Of Luck to Larry and Rainman. See all the rest of ya at JUMBOLAND... 6am sharp...
... mike ... :archer: ...
Just finishing plans on what time to pick up Mikey, meet Scott and head down. Decided to fill up the backquiver with some arrows, haul around my longbow, get some new batteries for the camera and we are all set. We need more pics on this thread....had a bunch last year.
Mikey....don't forget your pink scarf....
Hey we gotta meet up at a 3D this year so I can try out that longbow bud...I won't be able to make anymore hunts.
How's This Joe? I'll Bring Two Pink Hats. One for each of us. Got a special one for you, being the Team Pink Leader/Founder/Captain and such. ;) Anyway, a scarf may get in the way when comes time to fling some arrows.
... mike ... :archer: ...
I bequest my Pink hat to Stiffrod...after all, I think he deserves it and should wear it.
Stiffrod..don't forget to bring those pictures you had last year of the waitress :scared: :saywhat:
Deadbolt...after the season, shoot me your address and I'll send the bow down. You can keep it for a week and shoot it. :wavey: :)
Joe, I can't wear pink hats it's against my religion. Plus they might take my Union Card away! :readit: You and MC Hammer can wear them. Maybe they'll change the Jersey Gangs Luck. :saywhat: Should be a smaller bunch Saturday. The TRI-STATE Terrors PLUS 1, Steve, the chicken chaser, MC Hammer and who ever else shows up for Breakfast. I'dlike to hit WALLPACK small group maybe stillhunt/drive. I'd like to hit the back of The Table Top again a little different. We know for a fact they're up there. We'll discuss.... :archer: That little waitress has been asking for you...... stiff rod. :p By the way We have one more Saturday if you want. Season ends in Zone 4 Saturday the 31ST.
Shot a medium size doe tonight at Allaire. Hit it good, but a little high so there wasn't crap for a bloodtrail. Took my stuff back to the car and came back with a light but couldn't find any trail. The arrow penetrated into a little dirt mount up to the fletching ( a little overkill), but the feathers were painted a real pretty color of red. I know it is a high double lung hit, but it went into some real thick stuff and I kept getting turned around. Gotta work a 27-30 hour shift tomorrow, but I have a break from 1-4 pm, so I will head over there during the daylight. Should be cold enough to keep, I hope.
Best Of Luck Buddy. Hope You Find Her.
... mike ...
Guys had a great time wit ya's last week, hoped to repeat it again, but cant.Good Luck sat. and keep an eye on MC.Dont let him get lost AGAIN.
Good luck to you guys heading to Sussex. Hope you guys get something.
Looks like Reiner and I will be joined by Alex. The weather looks good for flying arrows.
Ain't had this much fun deer huntin' in a long time. Must be the cold air gettin' into my brain. Has nothin' to do with all you wonderful fellas.
... mike ...
Found the doe that I shot last night. It was pretty warm today and I clipped a part of the stomach. I didn't trust the backstrap on that side, but the rest of the meat looked ok to me.
Way to go Patrick! Better safe than sorry. I Will be at Jumboland at around 6:00. Steve, has a fever but said he will try to make it! I WILL BE THERE!!!! Hec, I'd come up just to see the TERRORS! TRI-STATE TERRORS PLUS 1 and MC HAMMER who else? Just received my new 3-d deer target in the mail going to send a few before dark. Talk later MEN!
Just cut up the hot dry sausage and from-unda-cheese! See you fellas at Jumboland around 6am.
... mike ... :archer: ...
Just showered up, sipping a tall gin, truck is packed and it looks like some nice weather tomorrow...should be a fun day....bring your cameras, something will be dying tomorrow!
Guys...GOOD LUCK
Glad you got your deer PAt.
Made it home OK. Had a GREAT DAY hunting with all of you. Kinda beat up though. Gonna soak my parabolics in hot water. Maybe my sweetheart will blow-dry 'em......
... mike ...
Thought I'd share some pics of todays drives. Another good time, the weather was supposed to be around 36 degrees but we got hit with a strong cold wind. It was downright nasty when you were "standing". Even had a early morning snow shower hit us.....A couple deer moved around and one buck managed to sneak through. We only had 8 guys but it worked out well.
Iron Mike Ciccone supplied the "energy"...fresh Mozzarella and hot sausage....
Reiner and Scott after a short drive. Bamboo praying that the wind would die down...
Reiner trying out Mike Robin's Torges seat. Mike made some nice improvements to the original
Myself and STiffrod (Bentpole) after another uphill drive..
Early morning snow showers hit. We were waiting for STiffrod....he was checking out a new area..
Scott leading Reiner and STiffrod ...setting up for a long drive. I kicked out a Coyote that sped past Scott while we were driving...too fast for any shot.
Found this buck rub on the first drive. Took this pic, then heard a PSSSSST....Looked over about 15 yds and a wheelie guy was up in his tree stand...Gave him the high sign and kept moving
Alex Bugnon joined us for half a day. Our group was myself, Bamboo, Scott, Stiffrod, Reiner, Alex, Steve and Mike C...A good group, different bows to shoot, giving the waitress a hard time at the diner...Doesn't get any better....
Thanks for posting some pics Joe. Sure wish I could have joined you guys today. I know with that group there was a lot of fun to be had today. Situations being what they are, I'm not able to get around too much these days. Me and the new bow had to settle with just stumping back behind the house.
Looks like a great time as usual. :smileystooges: Too bad I couldn't make the hunt or even some stumping with Vaughn, but I had to work. You fellas should have come to visit me, there were plenty of deer out back by the farm. :banghead: Thanks for the pics Joe.
Some beautiful scenery there gentleman..
Joe, what kind of bow is that, really sharp looking.
Joe, Thanks for the pics it brings the story to life! Looks like fun was had by all... Very Cool Camo! Jan
Only got out for a couple of hours yesterday, so went out to allaire again. Had a real small doe feeding at 10-20 yards for around an hour, but was hoping for something worth the drag. Never happened. Still a good day.
Pat, Congrats on Your deer
Looks like Y'all had another Great NJ Winter Bow hunt.
Mike hows that Shrew working for you?
Joe, great pictures Bud! We spent another great day in the woods again with a great bunch of folks. In between drives we joke, laugh and play but once we hit the woods it's all business. That exploritory trip during the first drive turned up a few good spots. The sign and the deer are there. They're just a little smarter than us this time of the year.Too bad we had swirling winds most of the day. On the way out there was a herd of deer in between the houses before 206. Seems like they started moving when we called it quits. Steve and I took a slow ride down Old Mine on the way home. We had 3 does getting ready to cross the road in front of us to go into a cut corn field. As soon as I slowed down they turned and bolted back up the ridge. They stopped around 40 yards and watched us until we left. Just one more Saturday up there to see if we can get smarter than them.
Gotta Add: AAAAA OOOO MC Thanks for the snacks they were awesome Bud! DA BEST!
It's my pleasure buddy... You are very welcome.
... mike ... :archer: ...
PS... Hello Again Sal. Might send that Shrew to Ron for him to get it down to around 50#-55# or so. Gotta wait for the end of February. Thanks for askin'. :)
Glad you guys had a good time together. Unfortunatly I got sick Friday night and spent my weekend wrapped up in blanket in front of the heater. I'm still not feeling well but I have to try going to work this afternoon. Supposed to be exam week at work and the kids have half days so I hope the work load won't be so bad.
Sorry to hear you got sick Larry. Take it easy this week buddy. Maybe we will see you on Saturday.
... mike ...
Larry, sorry to hear you became ill. It was good to have Reiner and Alex meet up with us. What happened to the pictures folks???
Maybe the pics were too big.
Thanks guys I hope to be better by next Saturday. I did manage to go to work today but I still feel like I've been run over by a truck. Plus we'er supposed to be getting more snow and ice tomorrow evening into Wed. Oh joy just what I need..... :help:
I probably forgot to resize....The Picture Police are right on top of their game....LOL
Don't know how I could be seen with people that don't resize.... My, my, my.......

Agreed
Work is just soooooooooo over rated
Great pictures, Joe Skipp, but I think it's not a very good idea to show people a container full of mozzarella and salami. Guys might start to show up just for food :)
That Joe Skipp takes some good pictures!
So... Who is in for Saturday the 31st?
... mike ... :archer: ...
I'm still sick but I'll ask where ya want to hunt?
Well, being the FNG and not knowin' my way around them there parts just yet has me answering... "I don't care, just wanna hunt!"
... mike ...
P.S. That's if we get a group to go. As stated above and below, looks like a big maybe. :( Then again, if I get stuck at work too late Friday night ya may have to count me out.
I don't know what I'm doing as of yet.I have a bunch of stuff to catch up on. :readit: I'll let you know. I might just not go. The extra snow and crunchyness might put a damper on it.
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
Highs only in the 20's.
I'm still sick so I'm out.
Gotta go back to work tonight. Guess we can give this Saturday to the deer. Best part is I get to sleep in until, well... 8am. Nice!
... mike ...
Good Luck to all those that make the trek! :clapper: I'll try to get out tomorrow afternoon close to home if I can.
Take tomorrow off...too much crust and ice. The areas you like to drive will be really tough going and someone could end up getting hurt.
Give the whitetails a break, catch up on some "home chores" and maybe with a break in the weather, the following weekend will be fine. Keep the faith...
Man, I wish I could have made it out this year!
I had way too many chores to catch up on before my surgery. Got in a few afternoons with Lee...saw a BIG buck behind my dad's house one night, probably about 60-70 yards out. But those deer have been hunted hard this year...there's plenty of fresh sign around my stand there, but they won't come in there during daylight anymore. Can't say I blame them...between my dad and I we took 3 bucks from that stand, and my dad took at least 3 more does.
Had my surgery last Monday...didn't go as planned. I need to have another operation in about 2 months. Now I'm just hoping I'll be able to make it to Whittingham.
