i know the regular striker would work great, but how do you think the striker mag would do from a 64 lb recurve and a 550-600 gr carbon shaft? i love the g5 heads, sharper than anything out there, and i would like to use the mag from my trad set up as well. would you use it? i love the replaceable blades, and the 1.5" cut. i have used the magnus snuffer 160 before, with the similar diameter, but i dont like how big they are over all. i know the longer design would help pentatration, but wouldnt 64 lbs, and a 600 gr shaft with about 200 gr up front work well, using the striker mag? would you use it?
I'd use em if I had some.. I have looked at em for a while, but I hace collected so many different broadheads, I really so not need any more..
You sure could, your poundage and arrow weight are more than adequate and than big hole would leave a hellva blood trail.
If I was out of nice, sharp 2-blade heads I might. :-p
It is a personal thing, and I am sure those heads are good; but not for me. I like wood arrows with heavy glue-on heads.
No...if I was going to use a 3 blade, and I do at times, it would not be either of those.
And what do you mean "I don't like their overall size"? What concerns you about their size?
no. The steep angle of these short broadheads is a real concern with respect to penetration, in my estimation.
With a #64 bow and a heavier arrow I would use them but it would not be my first choice. I still think a good 2 blade that is sharp on a heavy arrow is a better way to go. I shoot #51 and a 750 gr arrow. I limit my shots to 20 yds. or less.
Nope. Poor mechanical advantage on the blades. That not only retards penetration, more likely to change direction on glancing hits as well.
this year when we where back in South Africa all the compound hunters we guided where using those heads. one of the Guys Tradman 25 (James) guided killed a duiker with one and then hit an impala in the shoulder it prob penetrated 3" tops never found it until i shot it with my longbow 2 weeks latter. not a good head i my opinion for trad shooters. i would not use it.

i dont like seeing an army tank on the end of my arrow..its kinda distracting... just a personal peeve i guess.
No. I would not use them.
I shoot a 70# bow with 900+ grain arrows and I would not use that head. It will not penetrate bone. It would stop at that big fat tip. Just my opinion.

Have to use for G5 after the shakote deal, wouldn't shoot anything they make. dino
G5 Striker is a fantastic head for compounds with no penetration problems, but I wouldn't think so great for a trad shooter.
I'd much prefer a Snuffer or Woodsman type. Stick with a cut on contact head. I wouldn't use anything else with my trad gear.
Forgot to add, the Striker Magnum would be an absolutely not.
I used to shoot something like that off of my compound, but I wouldn't off of any trad bow. The short length heads give excellent flight charachteristics(sp?), but without the power from a compound, the steep blade angle will actually impede penetration.

But when behind the bow shooting, wouldn't they look the same......I have no idea why someone looking to shoot a big 3bl. wouldn't want to shoot a Snuffer,or the smaller W Woodsman...but thats just me...
I think heads like this would have a place for turkey or coyote hunting where penetration isn't as tough. If your sharpening challenged and need something you can "replace" blades in real quick, that is. My good ole muzzy's from the compound days fit that bill nicely though and have a better mechanical advantage...and I'm sure cost less.
(For turkey, I would *think* the arrow staying in the bird was actually good assuming you get past the vitals? With 64# I don't think that'd be a concern...but you guys may veto that idea.)
ok i get the message. snuffers it is.
