I really enjoy building wooden arrow! Even though I don't shoot them much; there's something about them that fires me up.
Here are a few I made up..lets see yours

Beauties my friend....nice work!!! Better ship me a few for a test run....ha!! I can picture that second set going right through some lungs!!!
Seriously, well done Dave.
Beauties! :scared: Hec if you make them I'll buy them! :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the kind words fellas; its much appreciated!!
bentpole Iam currently just using cedar from the shop. I know their are better woods out there, I just don't have access to them as of yet.
Side note... I kno there are some other fellas that make wood ara's...post'em up!!!
There are better woods than cedar? Not in my little book. Those are beauties by the way.
George dont get me wrong cedar is a great wood for ara's. But its not the most durable wood imo
Dave, durability is just one aspect of arrows. I've tried all of them except the laminated hardwoods and have always drifted back to cedar.
Mine take a pretty good beating so that's not an issue with me. I also like the Sitka Spruce and Douglas Fir.
No fancy paint jobs here. These are my first attempt at wood burning. Also my first attempt at making my own natural turkey feather fletching. I think they turned out well.

Not only are they beauties, they're functional too!!

Dave, I have a set of Douglas Fir that I should have finished up by early next week. Keep this post at the top and I will post some pictures. I may have to wait for the owner to receive them though or you will see them before him. Never the less I will get some pictures up. Nice work by the way. Flint
I like the plain jane look. I'll post pic's later.
Great looking ara's fellas
That wood burning is a great idea; I might have to give that a whirl

Ok,
i just can't resist- That is one BAD title. I'm glad we all understand what is actually meant. I'm sure the girls get a kick out of it. no offence all.

Some mighty fine arrows here. Thanks for posting your master pieces.
jer Bear
Tom,
Yours look just fine.
I sometimes wonder why I spend so much time fiddeling with mine. Pretty colors do not make them fly better. I think of this mostly just after I bust one against a rock or while I spend an hour looking for one in the deep grass (how can something that orange still manage to hide in the grass?).
I do the same thing with my fishing flies. Spend all that time making sure they look great, when all I am gonna do is break them off in the trees at worst, or let a slimy 'ol fish chew on them at best.
Guess it keeps me out of the bars (some of the time) and off the streets (most of the time).
OkKeith
Here you go for some ideas...

V-Archer, are those wraps or did you crest them with paint?
Very nice
I know my nutters are not as beautiful as the rest but ya don't have to delete them, sheesh.

Dave,
They are no wraps, I painted them as follows: Basic color red or black, then carefully with a soft brush you apply the other color with smooth strikes to get the setting of your liking.
The best way is to try it on a piece of paper before you start working on the shafts.

To all...there are some amazing looking arrows listed here. I have built my own sine I was 13 and since I just turned 35 it's starting to add up.
I think I'm ready to tackle some woodies of some sort.
Is there a book I can get about how to take raw shafts and work them up? I have read several articles and threads on it but was wondering if there is a book form I can buy.
I'll have to look through 3R for one.
Anyway WOW you guy/gals are amazing.
Josh
Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by T.J. Conrads explains how to make wood arrows. So does Fred Asbel's first Instinctive Shooting book, and volumn three of Traditional Bowyer's Bible. There are others as well.
Here some of mine.

here are some of my favorites , call them red rockets
the cresting is different on each one making them all uniqe and able to identify a individual arrow, one could name them if they want, or use it to weed out the flyers.
