Title: Tieing on Cat Whiskers?
Post by: Ron Haines on December 07, 2008, 12:45:00 PM
How does everyone tie on their cat whiskers?  I have seen people just tie a them on like 3Rivers does and others that use server string to secure to the string.  Just wondering what method you use.  And do you think it better than another method?

Me I have always used a server string to tie it to string.  It makes a nice pom-pom that way.  For me I feel it holds to the string better, thus absorbing more vibrations.

I think they work better served on seperate into 4 parts legnth wise then serve onto string then pull on ends cut slowly you can slide them up and down the string till you find the best spot  :bigsmyl:

If I remember correctly.I pulled the strands of the whisker apart in the center portion of the whisker. I then pulled on each end of the whisker to stretch the rubber. and I tied the center part of the whisker with dental floss. You will need a extra hand to tie the floss or you can do like i did. I used my teeth to hold one end of the rubber whisker.
The stretching of the rubber made a small center not where i tied the floss.

Ron: Check out this tutorial on cat whisker installation.  http://www.fastestbows.com/articles/tech/silencer_tie_in.htm

I use a slightly modified version of this where I have four rubber pieces total, and sandwich the string in between, two on each side. I do not use glue on mine either, it's not necessary. I find using campers waxed string works best, it's super tough and burns nicely. It will not break when you put all your force into the knot.

I tried using the method that 3 rivers does but they kept coming loose. Now I just seperate the sting and stick them through and trim to about 1 1/2 " on each side. Very simple and work great.

A small black zip tie works real well.

I use the small #4 Zip ties also. I have searched electronic catalogs and I beleive that is smallest made, atleast I could find. Readily available almost anywhere. Strong and cinch very tight with pliers.

I fold the whisker in half, then use 2 clothes pins to hold it on the string then i tie it in the center with serving material, cut the one end with a knife and then stretch to spread the rubber apart.

Run them between the string, twist the string, shoot the bow. They will whisker naturally.

I cut mine in half lengthwise and separate the string and run them thru, have one at 1/3 and a wool yarn at 1/4...PR
