Title: Kudos to Big River Bows
Post by: JCJ on December 06, 2008, 07:10:00 PM
We had below zero wind chill's this morning so I decide to forego hunting and drive down to the local Trad Shop, The Footed Shaft in Rochester, MN.

I never seem to be able to leave there without spending money and today was no different. On the used rack was a John McDonald, Big River, Hill style longbow. 66", 60# @28". The riser is cocobola color dymondwood and the limbs are fiddleback maple stained a dark green brown that makes the contrasting grain into a natural camo pattern.

I've owned a few of John's 21st Century type R/D longbows and they are incredible shooters. This was the first straight limbed longbow of his I have shot and it is a shooter too! A real thumper and not a bit of handshock that you often hear associated with straight limbed bows.

Also, for anyone looking for some good recurves at a fair price Lamont had:

64" one-piece Blacktail Elite $495
60" three-piece Blacktail Elite $550
60" Three piece RER (new) $550
60" Morrison $595

John makes some of the best bows I've ever shot.  Looks and price are up at the top also.
