Title: Kustom King Black Forest longbow
Post by: JSimon on December 02, 2008, 11:09:00 AM
Does anyone have any experience with the Kustom King Black Forest longbow? Looks like a nice bow for the price. Their website says it is new, but when I did a search on here I found some posts about a "Black Forest" longbow made by Mike Treadway. Anyone know if Mike makes the Kustom King bow? Also, the price is a little cheaper than a Bear Montana, so I'm wondering if anyone can compare the two. Appreciate the replies,

It looks like a Dan Quillan bow to me and if so I would think that the maker was none other than Owen Jeffries?

Anyone else have any info on the Kustom King longbow? I prefer the looks of it and grip shape over the Montana, but it's tough to tell if I would like it by only looking at a picture.

Why not call Kustom King and ask them?

I emailed them after seeing it on their site. I only asked them if the bow can handle FF and it cannot.

Might be a good bow for these tough times.

Yeah, I might give them a call, but I guess I don't care so much about who builds them. I was mainly hoping maybe someone could vouch for the quality compared to a Bear Montana since they cost about the same. If it's something that just came out, it might too new to know.

If I'm not mistaken, that's one of the bows Tim Cosgrove brought to camp this year. It is made in Germany. It looked to be excellent quality. It was left handed, so I didn't shoot it, but watching Tim shoot it seemed like a quiet, quick bow.

That's a nice looking bow for the price. The name makes sense if it came from Germany.

I own a bear montana and even though I've never heard of those guys... my .02.

Go with the black river. There is nothing wrong with my montana, but looking at that one the quality appears much nicer. I doubt someone would go through the trouble of that much quality in looks and make them of poor construction.

My montana under close scrutiny appears to be just what it is, a line production bow. 3 equal parallel lams covered in black glass and a blocky ash riser. Fades could have been better but are good enough.

That thing has accent stripes, limb veneers, etc. If it were my guess someone is looking for some good reviews, and then is going to raise their prices.

When you look at PSE or martin's real low end lineup, the sequoia, or the L hundred something or other, they are of visually simple construction. Low woodworking, few materials. Thats why they are cheap. That looks like a real good deal. Wish I shot more than one bow.

I bought one back in oct. & am very pleased with it ,& yes they are made in germany so sayeth the owner of kustomking. for 280.00$ the performance is good enough for me to get rid of my other longbows & just use this one. love the grip.

By the way, Tim Cosgrove (owner of KK) isn't JUST importing them. He has been TO Germany twice to meet with the manufacturer. He feels strongly about the quality of this bow.
