Hey all,
Both the belly and back of my Longbow is BLACK. My riser has some grey and black mixed in. It's a nice looking bow but lately I have been thinking of personalizing it a bit and kinda dressing it up with some snake skins.
I have never done anything like that so I would probably have to get someone to do it for me but if I went with the limb skins from Onestringer I could do those myself.
My problem is that I don't know what would match the best with the colors of my bow. The Rattlesnake skins I have seen on other longbows and recurves are absolutely beautiful, and so are the copperheads for that matter, and I would really like mine to look that good.
The Onestriger LimbStations look nice, but it looks like the center line of the skin doesn't go all the way down the center, if you know what I mean. That certainly is still a possibility particularly if I could find some pictures of others that have used them on their bows. I have had great luck with their stuff in the past though.
Can you all give me some ideas as to what you think would look the best on a BLACK longbow? If you have any pics of bows that have had the Onestringer product applied how about posting them or emailing them to me.
Thanks for the help and your time. I appreciate it.

I think this would look good

I kind of like eastern diamandback skins on black limbs.
The blue racer would look great! Just to confuse you, d-rattle looks great too. I have it on my quiver cover which adds a nice touch I think. How about both in the same way?
I think Emery Rat snake looks good with black & grey.

If it was me I think I'd go with either a diamond back or copperhead skins. Copperhead skins are darn near impossible to find, especially in the length needed. I used the vinyl stuff and I get lots of nice comments on it. I have it on my Kahauna hunter t/d
The nice thing about the vinyl is if you ever want to take it off it won't mar your bow like the prep for snakeskin will
I put rattle snake skins from 3-Rivers on my Super Kodiak which has black limbs.Turned out real nice. It`s not hard to do.And you feel better about it when you do it yourself.Got alot of good comments about it.If you want to know how i done it,PM me.
so where would a fella get some Black Rat Snake or Blue Racer skins...??
And don't say off of a snake...
That's what I'm wondering about too.

A while back, guys were talking about using cottonmouth skins. Seems I recall that while the skins usually look black on the snake, once you get them off, remove the scales, dry them and put them on a bow, a pretty nice pattern shows up. Can't recall just what they looked like but maybe someone will have pics?
Maybe start a seperate post asking for pics of bows with cottonmouth skins????
Peckerwood, you're dead right about the skins on your bow. They really look like they "fit" great with the other colors.
Dave, you're thinking of Hogdancers new Morrison with Cottonmouths I think. They look great but good luck finding skins, especially this time of year.
Mike Yancy at Pine Hollow (Sponsor) is a great place to get skins. I've bought several pairs from him and have always been pleased.
My first thought was Emery Rat snake and after seeing pics of Peckerwoods bow that's my second thought as well!
Be careful with copperhead skins. I used black glass on the back of a bow specifically for putting skins over, hoping the darker glass would make the skins look better. But the copperhead skins I used looked almost black and you couldn't even tell there were snakeskins there until you looked closesly. A taxidermist friend of mine had to airbrush the color back onto the skins.
Cobra skins look great on black limbs. Now finding a set is a bit tough.
FYI,
Angelo at Bison Gear (sponsor here) had a whole bunch of cobra skins a while back. You could check with him and see, there were some real nice black ones with red lines and cost was real good.
Hi Nala,
I put Canebrake on my black limbed recurve. (fake skineeze)

WOW! That looks great! Are those the ones from OneStringer?
If anyone else has pics, how about posting them?
Thanks everyone for the information.

No,the company that makes them is 'skineeze', though I bought them through a company in the uk.
One tip I would give is too rub a little string wax on to them to take away the small amount of 'light glare' for hunting.
Anybody have an address for "Skineeze"?
Cobra is definitely neat...Doc

Those Emery Rat Snake skins look great.
Doc, Those Cobra's are no joke.
Just sent pic's of both these bows to my boy. He is thinking of putting some skins on one of his bows.
That cobra backed bow is just too stinking cool. Dang, but I like that.
