Looking over the bows given away over the past 18 months I'd have say the sport is growing in a positive way. I suspect in the next ten years we're going to see a changing face for Trad Gang because of this trend if it holds up. We've given more bows to girls entering the Tradition than we have boys! It's great to see Moms and daughters picking up the stick and string. More ladies participating can only strengthen Trad and do more to ensure Traditional Archery's hunting future! So don't be shy about putting a bow in a young lady's hands, you may just be gaining a lifelong hunting partner and shooting buddy!
So ladies let's see you all post up some pics of your hunting adventures and shooting!
My 12 year old daughter will post after x-mas. SHHHHHHH, it's a secret. Her Whisperstik is being glued up as we speak.
Mike
...and when they start shooting better than you. JUST KEEP YER MOUTH SHUT ! ;)

I'm also seeing many more women and girls in my bowhunting classes here in Ct. It's very encouraging. (nut)

Funny you say that my girlfriend asked to shoot a few weeks ago and every weekend I have shot with her...awsoem to do BTW...but this weekend it was pouring rain out and as we were watching a movie she turns and ask "is it ever gonna stop raining?" I was like probably not why? She came out with "Man I wanna go shoot the recurve!!!"
Boy I couldnt have been any happier LOL...I'll snap some pix next time we are out on the range!
I'm always astonished how many girls are in bass pro and cabelas when I go. Cute young girls too.
Maybe all cute female hunting stars have been more than eye candy the last few years without us knowing it. Sure seems to be more young girls interested i hunting then there used to be.
Tim,
From the serious look on yer lady's face while bearing down...I think pretty soon you'll need to heed Gordy's advice about "when they shoot better'n you, keep yer mouth shut!" She's really focused! That has to equate to good shooting!
Man that is a serious look and intense concentration she's got going there!
I'd hate to see her mad! :D

I recently bought a bow for a very good friend of mine earlier this year. Herb Mealand made a beauty for her. I took her shooting last year when she was in wyoming for Christmas and she has been hooked ever since. She has taken her bow to hawaii even. I will try to post a pic or two tonight.
Keep it up all. What you all do here makes a difference.
Here's my 16 year old granddaughter, Amanda.

for the first time ever, my five year old says to me friday morning...."Dad, can we go hunting today?" mind you, she's never even shot her bow yet. I quickly served the string I had twisted up a while ago and slid the 'no-glove's on....and together we fletched up two childrens fiberglass arrows (she swung the rubber mallet while I held the feathers in the chopper and she pressed them down in the jig.
we then don'd our rubber boots and head out behind the house. it was so much fun!

Archery has long been the traditional sport of women. I think it's about time that this facet of societal activity is straightening itself out! Things are normalizing. :)

Based on phone orders and emails; about 40% of our bows go to girls.

Yes, it's good to see it too, I read some much about archers coming back after using a compound bow for so long. They've rediscovered the enjoyment of seeing an arrow reach it's mark, Not having to know the exact distance so you'd know which pin to use, not being limited to carbon arrows, and the simplicity of a stickbow. Thanks Vermonster, and all others, for doing your best at involving kids and equiping them so they can grow our sport, and they too can get the enjoyment of arrow flight. I look forward to this year and the ones to follow.
WOW, what a great thread! Keep the pics coming, good stuff!
This a great thread. Nice to see all of the new archers.

No pics yet guys, but my daughter of 1 1/2 years will be getting her lifetime hunting license this Christmas. Since she will be getting all the toys she needs from "mamaw and mimi", me and the better half decided to drop $200 in the license.
Thanks, Sarah! Now we've got two Sarah's posted...in very different temps and scenery!
You go gals!
Jason,
What a cool thing to do...and such confidence in the future of hunting! Neat! Now how do you get many copies made of that so she doesn't Eat it at her age?!? :)
Geroge D. -- If that gal can center any of those tiny targets at what appears to be 50 yards+ ... send her to the Olympics! Trick photography? In any event, more power. D

Now that's funny :D
Anyway, I agree. Don't know who this young lady is but i took a pic at a 3-D. She was shooting with her family and it really impressed me...

These are my children. I made my little girl a red oak board bow and she loved shooting it. The only problem is my nephews wanted to shoot it and pulled back way to far and cracked it. :( Now I am working on a new one for her.
My son wants to shoot with me evey chance he gets!

I feel sorry for you in a few years. You got a beautiful little girl and she likes to shoot a bow on top of that, you and her little brother will have your hands full keeping all the boys away :D

Jeff...your MILITARY left!!! :biglaugh:
See this feeling? That is what I remember from when I was a kid, and I don't ever want to not feel it when I pick up a bow. I am an old lady now, and sometimes I scare myself with how serious my face can get when I shoot. Fortunately, I don't see it all that often, and only feel my inward smile.

We need to hear(actually see some great hunting pics) from Pinecone!
My 7 year old daughter loves to tell folks that she shoots a real bow, not a wheel bow... :)
There where some pics here in the past when she was shooting at Mojam. She'll be starting the 4H archery program this spring, which shoots trad bows, as soon as their new volunteer gets his certification...
Paul,
Wasn't it Mojam where one guy posted he left his son shooting with some other adults and went somewhere...came back and the kid had a beautiful tight group..when asked "how?"
His reply was priceless..."Simple, Dad, just kept pullin the ones that weren't bullseys till they were!"
Killy,
Ya still grin like a cheshire kitty when you either do well or get a 'bippy' shot. We've seen those pics!
That sounds like a Mojam sort of story Doc...
You Eastern folks need to gather up Killie and bring her out to Missouri in July this summer.
It's a fun time for adults and the kids...
Paul, Paul, Paul.... :saywhat:
Don't nobody "Gather up Killy and bring her..." anywhere. Just ask Clark! That be like grabbin holt of a tigress with pok chop on yer breath!
Here is my Princess... and yes I know I've got trouble in about 6-8 years.

AK.
Well then Doc maybe ya'll could lure her out to the west...? :D
Wish I could do photobucket, my wife shoots with me as long as the temp is above 0 and it's not raining. She is currently working up to a hunting weight bow but has been known to fling an arrow at a occasional grouse.
Even more impressive to me is the young lady who shoots 3D at my local range. She's there by herself every week shooting with us guys. Keep in mind this is Alaska and most of the guys are more than a little on the rough side. She competes very well, doesn't put up with any guff and always is the picture of feminine charm and grace.
