Okay, I thought I had the right match for my Caddo: 4560 Carbon Express Terminators/Rebels with 100 grain brass inserts and 145 grain field points and three 5" fletches shoot right where I'm looking. Then I decided to bareshaft some, just for kicks. The bare shafts shoot about a foot to the left (stiff).
What the heck!?
With all that weight on the front at my 28" draw with a 52# bow, how can these things be too stiff?
Now, do I just shrug my shoulders and shoot them anyway, since they seem to be fine with feathers, or should I be trying something else with them? They fly like darts when fletched. I don't see anything but spinning feathers.

If bare shafts are shooting left, so are your fletched field tips and broadheads whether you can "see" it or not. You either need a thinner side plate, which may not be possible, more weight, or longer arrows.
Folks seem to think arrows marked 4560 are useable in that spine range, they are only from the standpoint of length, point weight, and centershot, just like any other arrow......O.L.
Son, you could pry hubcaps off with 28" 45/60 Carbon Express shafts 8^). It's like a one size fits all....some need taken in, some need taken out. I agree with O.L....you need more weight on the killin' end.
You said you draw 28"s. What length are your arrows cut at? If you want to shoot 45/65's out of that bow anywhere from a 175 gn field point,a 190 up to a 250 for the hec of it. That's with your 100 gn insert.
I forgot to post the length. The arrows are cut 29" BOP. What would that take?
O.L., if the fletched shafts are hitting where I look, will they shoot way right if I get them to bareshaft to point of aim? I am testing them using a 6 strand d97 string I made after reading the thread about your 4 strand. Man, 6 sure looks skinny!
George, they are 29", but it sure makes me wonder how many pounds one would have to hang from the killin' end to shoot them in a 45# bow :confused:
bentpole, I think I'll try them with my 170 grain WW's up front and see what happens. I don't have any field points over 145 grains right now.
Thanks for the replies guys. Carbons just confuse the heck out of me. Everybody has a different number system, they are expensive, and cutting them is a PITA. The ones I have came precut (Fleet Farm or Walmart). Maybe I need to stick with aluminums or woodies, but my 1916's want to shoot high now that I have the skinny string on the bow.
I guess I just need something to fiddle with now that my deer is in the freezer :rolleyes:
Oddly enough, it didn't take as much as I thought to get these tuned. Carbons are strange creatures :eek:
I went to the shop and concocted a heavier field point. I added some lead to a 125 grain glue on FP; then I glued it to a long aluminum insert. It weighed 171 grains. Almost identical to my WW's glue-on's with the same insert. These shoot right on. If I don't torque the string, they fly as if they were fletched. The good news is, I answered my own question: the fletched ones hit in the same spot as the bare ones as long as they are tuned the same. Cool!
This gives me a 595 grain finished arrow. That oughta punch through whitetails like a hot knife through butter!

Just for furture reference, "tuned" shafts shoot where they are "pointed"...that may not be where you "look"! 2 different things. :) ....O.L.
