Title: Oh, another snakeskin backing question - Finished!
Post by: mcgyver on November 25, 2008, 02:15:00 PM
After the holidays I plan on backing my take-down limbs with rattlesnake skins. My question for you backing experts would be...
I currently have black glass limbs. Would that be too dark of a background to glue rattler hides to?
If it would wash out the pattern too much, is there a better skin than rattle snake to use over black? If I have to paint the glass lighter to use the rattlesnake, would I run into adhesion problems?
I really like to look of skinned bows, and I would really like to only do this once.
Thanks for any input you can offer.       :campfire:

Im not positive, but I thought black was a good background color for rattlesnake skinds....I cant remember who had a post about it.
Im sure someone will be along who knows for sure.

I think black would be a good background for D-back skins.   Pat

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Makes me feel much better about ordering the skins.
I don't know why I seemed to remember reading bad things about dark glass washing out the pattern?
Thanks again. Full speed ahead...

Black is fine I've had good results with rattle snake skins on black glass.

The limbs on this Morrison longbow were black before I sent it back to Bob for some skins. I think they were Eastern Diamondback.

I would think the black glass would highlight the skins but white would wash it out.    Pat

Thanks for all your input and support.
I have been shooting this same bow for about 15 years now, and really wanted a traditional looking Camo.
Well, I finally got her done, and I'm kinda pleased with the outcome.

I couldn't (Wouldn't) have it done without Trad Gang Support.

Thanks All!

Great job.  It came out great.  I will be doing mine one day, after I get past the loss of money for the skin i ordered.

Thanks for the complements!
I have to give a big plug for Mike at Pine Hollow Longbows!
When he says matched skins, he really means it!!

Wow those turned out really well. I too  have been thinking about skinning a bow and with out Trad Gang probably wouldn't.
