Title: Working with Osage
Post by: ranger 3 on November 24, 2008, 03:13:00 PM
I am thinking of buying an Osage stave off the (other site) and have a question. Is the rings easier to chase when they are close or wider? What do I look for, I have never attempted to make a bow before.

Thanks

I like tight, uniform rings, in a straight stave.  Good luck, good straight staves and rings are hard to come by!

Thicker rings are easier to chase.  Anything over 1/16" thick should be fine to start with.  Clean is more important than straight.  But straighter is better.  Look for a stave that is 66" or longer.
