Title: glasses
Post by: Cyrille on November 23, 2008, 08:13:00 PM
How many of you wear glasses while shooting/ hunting? And how do you keep them from being knocked off your face by the bowstring?

dont pull the string back behind them. My string just comes to the tip of my nose. I usually wear my contacs while hunting though, for the increased field of vision.

I never had a problem with the string knocking them off, but fogging up was a real issue.  I had Lasik three years ago and have never looked back.  I routinely shoot in the warmer months with sunglasses and no problem, but then again I have been known to short draw.

Not much help I know, but FWIW I feel your pain.  Having worn glasses for over thirty years I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

The only issue I seem to have with my glasses is sometimes hitting them with my index finger as I reach full draw.  I think you might want to check your anchor point to see if you are drawing a bit too far back.  Anchoring at the corner of my mouth has always kept the string out in front of my glasses.

Yeah, the fogging up is getting real annoying.  That's why I "upgraded" to contacts recently.  Still getting used to them.  I'm seriously considering Lasik!

I wear my shooting glasses when I shoot my bow. The single vision and the amber color are great at dusk too. I anchor on my cheek so I've never knocked them off. If I wear a ballcap, sometimes the brim gets in the string.

My anchor point is the back of my jaw just below the ear lobe. Perhaps I should drop it a bit lower--- I'm going to try that and also wear my shooting glasses as they will fit over my glasses.
Thanks for the answers. I apprecate ya'll takeing the time.

I had that problem when I got my new glasses. Had to change my anchor point. Now I pull up in front of my lenses. When the string touches the front of the lenses and my thumb knuckle is under the jaw I know I'm there.
Also when I loose back tension I sometime take off the glasses, so watch for back tension.

LASIK is the best money I ever spent! No fogging glasses or losing a contact lens at the worst time. I had it done 6 years ago and the technology has only improved since then.

I wear glasses and I cannot do the back of the jaw/ear lobe anchor.

A couple friends of mine starting anchoring that way after watching the Ricky Welch videos and their shooting improved a great deal.

I tried it and my glasses got in the way.

I wonder if your trying to lean into the arrow to much - maybe trying to look down the shaft, thus putting your glasses in the way?????

I agree with john, my glasses have never bothered me when i am shooting, but the fogging can be a real problem. Quick question, do you shoot 3 under? if so that's why the string is closer to your glasses and knocks them off.

Curveman is right on the money...Go get Lasik...It is amazing. I said farewell to glasses and contacts 5 years ago with Lasik and have never, ever, ever regretted it for a second! I would do it again even if I had to redo it every single year! Get some info, do some research and do it! It's Wonderful!!

I changed to contacts several years ago. I do remember always having a smear of string wax on the right lens of my glasses. Just like the guys who went to lasik, going to contacts was a great choice for me.

I am with the never bothered me crowd. However a friend that I used to shot with a lot had to start using glasses and was forced to change to a corner of your mouth anchor.
