I am going to start fletching my used arrows, and eventually fletch all my arrows. On my old arrows I have Parabolic's and the new ones have shielded. Just wondering what other people shoot, and why?
Thanks for any and all information.
Ron,
It really doesn't matter. More personal preference.
I used to shoot 5.5 Highback shields, but I have switched to 5.5 Parabolics. The parabolics don't rub each other in my bowquiver.

I am currently shooting both the 5.5 Highback Shields and the 5.5 Parabolics. Go with the 5.5 Parabolics much quieter in flight and stabilize my wood arrows rapidly...can't ask for much more than that.
I shoot them all, shields, parabolic and bananna.I think as long as your arrow is well tuned, shoot which ones you like.I used to shoot all shields on my wood arrows, looked better. But with aluminum and carbon I shoot them all.
I always shoot 5" shield cut feathers. Never had a problem with them, and just like the way shield cut look.
Bill
I have been shooting shields the last few years. Thought they looked cooler. Just fletched some new shafts for deer season with parabolics. I love them. The fly very well. Not sure I will go back.
Thanks everyone. I did not think it would make a big difference, but just needed someone to tell me that. I am just starting to get into this whole fletching thing.
Sheild, Just my preferance! I honestly don't notice any noise differance but I might not hear as good as the next guy!
Parabolic is my personal preference.
Parabolic because that's what I started with and they do well. Wouldn't mind trying the orca profile but they're hard to find and costly. I'm a "set-it-and-forget-it" type.
Parabolic for no other reason other then they are quiet.
I like quiet, I use parabolic...PR
I actually just bought some woodies with shields-for looks/3D. When I hunt I go back to my parabolic for the reasons mentioned above.
I have used both shields and parabolics and truthfully can't tell any difference in sound. However, in my younger years I fired a whole lot of handgun rounds without proper ear protection, so that could be a factor to consider. I shoot shields mostly because I like the looks on wood arrows, but have had pleasing results with both.
I fletched up sheilds, parabolics and nanners.
I hate to say it, but the nanners are growing on me - alot.
Most of mine are parabolic, as they're availible locally for cheap.

I have a permanent ringing in my left ear for that very reason. Right ear a little, left though can be real annoying.
as for feathers I prefer the look of shields, but have parabolics as well.
Paragolics are definitely quieter and weather we can hear them or not, the deer can.
Several years ago, I video taped my arrow flight with the camera set right next to the target. I shot 5" and 5 1/2" in both styles and found no difference in arrow flight (all were good) but the shields were quite a bit louder in the last few yards as they approached the target. I would never have noticed if it hadn't been for the sound on the camera near where it really counts.
It really deosn't make a difference as those above said. I fletch with 5" parabolic and shields and like them both. I believe the shields are a bit noisier. I've had folks lay flat on thier backs downrange and shot over them(don't jump on me ), and while it's certainly scientific, to the person they said the shields were noisier. BTW, they also could tell whether I was shooting woodies, aluminum or carbon from release to arrow flight down range. Just my 2c.(nut)
Sorry I meant to say certainly NOT scientific.(nut)
I shoot parabolics.I love the sheild looks but for some reason they just never shot as good as the paras on either my trad gear or wheelie bows.More than likely a mind thing I'm sure.I'd like to give the 'nanners a try as well.
Parabolics or small, low bananas for me.Quieter and hold up better in tube type quivers.I do use sheilds on some of my wooden 3d arrows but seldom have any on hunting arrows other than arrows that have been around awhile.
full length peacock feathers :scared: ....for ultimate stabilization in flight :p
I think sheilds are noisier than parabolics. For me Banana cut are the quitest. m2c
Sheilds and then nanners. I like them both
Parabolic for me , just have no reason to change .
Mike
I usually use parabolic for 3D shoots, practice and I make my own feathers from turkeys I have shot for my hunting arrows. I burn them in the shield cut shape. They fly just fine for me. I can't tell any difference in either, just like the looks of the shield cut. I use 2 natural feathers for the hen feathers and a red died cock feather. Pretty traditional look.
5" parabolics nice and quite
Started with Paras and moved recently to Shields. They look cool!
I use primarily banana fletchings. Super quiet and to me they look really traditional. I also like the old Pope & Young fletchings, but they whistle a little much like shields.
The only time arrow noise makes a difference is when the arrow misses the animal and passes by it. Of course, it doesn't really matter then. Animals react to the sound of the bow. Arrow noise is secondary. By the time they hear it, it's usually too late. I've shot shields mostly and some parabolics for more than 40 years and can't tell the difference in noise level from behind the bow. I like the looks of shields so that's what I shoot most. Parabolics are a little more aerodynamic, but few people shoot well enough to notice the difference.
I love banana fletchings as well, wish all my arrows had them! They look so cool and they are beefy enough to straighten out the arrow real quick. Never had issues with noise on any offering.
I use feathers....
Seriously, I use Shields,Parabolics,and Nanners....
Too, bad we can't use Owl Feathers, how quite would they be....
I started shooting shields, then moved to bananas and I now shoot 4 x 4" parabolics. I've gone for the parabolics because they're probably the most popular and easiest to get a hold of, as well as being very stable and quiet! ;)
I like the sheilds and parabolics. Don't like the looks of the banana cut. Just don't look normal to me.
