Title: Another footing question
Post by: bmfer on November 22, 2008, 08:11:00 PM
Ok, I asked a question here last week about footing my carbon arrows, I've found the right size aluminum arrow. All I need to know is how long of a piece of aluminum to put on? Also do you hunt deer with a footed shaft, or just use them on stump shooting and small game?

I use 1.5" on my axis arrows. I foot my arrows because I miss a lot at our 3 d range which is filled with carbon hungry rocks.  Sleeving the nock end also helps.  It keeps the back end from splitting on impact.  I dont like changing my set up, so what I practice with is what I hunt with, so my hunting shafts do have footings also.

I will second footing both ends. I used an inch and a half up front and a half inch on the nock end. I also hunted with em, and my two misses sure flew nice. LOL.

There are no real set rules,on my axis/mfx I used 1" piece.I just wanted to cover the front of the HIT insert down in the shaft. You just want to keep the end of the shaft from cracking.
