I was curious to see how many whitetails you guys have with traditional equipment?
enough. :D
Zero P&Y's. Which is the same number bbassi gave. (for me -- saying nothing about him) :readit:
Seriously, if God decides to give me a chance at a 140+ class buck someday, I'll gladly take it. Until then, I'll be grateful for whatever else I can get close to.
I've taken only one whitetail that scored higher than the P & Y minumum. Unfortunately, I took him with a shotgun slug during the firearms season. Missed the B & C minimum by a mile. :o )

0+0=0 Yeah I think I have zero! :jumper:
None for me, either.
Seriously, I haven't cracked an official trophy boar yet, either; but, you guys know the truth to the cliche, "They're all..."
Cheers,
Ben
I have three but I don't measure anymore,I just enjoy getting a shot.
That really doesn't matter to me actually. I love the hunt with a recurve bow in my hands.
Perhaps I do have a couple or so, but I have never had them measured.
Please hunt for the love of the HUNT!
O
none in the book, I can't see deducting inches if they don't match.P&Y and B&C stink because of that.. Just wrong
1 officialy, but I no longer have mine scored.
None...... Never cared to see if any measured up. Any deer with a longbow or recurve is a trophy to me.
Two, a 142&7/8 taken at 24 yds and a 132 taken at 18 yds.
I have one in the book from 1997.
Still looking for my second one.....
Brett
Zero
I am still trying to get my first forked horn with a bow.
When someone hunts with me for the first time I tell them up front I'm a DEER hunter. Anything with horns and especially big enough to score is a BIG bonus. I still haven't figured out how everyone can get deer to smile long enough for them to age them on the hoof. I'd like to see how much film footage the pro hunters would get in my areas I get to hunt. Not to say they couldn't, but I don't think there would near the passing up of deer you see on T.V.
7 in all. Have really moved away from it though. Getting back to basics and not focusing on horns anymore. It's more fun that way.

You would think that I have a few since I live in Kansas, the 'monster bucks behind every tree' state.
I've seen two or three during my years of hunting but I've only devoted one season trying to shoot one certain buck. That was a mistake on my part.
0-Zero for me. The meat tastes way better than the antlers.
Dennis
None for me.
I think my buck might be close but have never had him officially measured. I would like to get him in the Compton Archives though.
B.Glass. I'm sorry I'm unfamiliar with that. Compton has a trad only trophy book?
As for P&Y bucks. I don't have anything against guys that hunt them. I won't shoot small bucks. So it'll probably be a LONG time before I shoot a big buck. But I hope to one day have the skills to get up on trophies.
But I want a trophy off of untouched woods though. Like the public lands I hunt. You can keep a P&Y from the ways alot of people get them. Not going into specifics as not to offend anyone. But I think we all know what I mean.
I've never had one scored. Never wanted to place a number on an animal. I have too much respect for them to do that.
I rifle hunted a few times with a fella that shot a deer in the early 80s that scored 149 7/8 after the drying period, and the guy was so disapointed the buck didnt make the Missouri Big Bucks 150" minimum. I mean, give me a break, that deer was a pig, regardless of his score. That ordeal really turned me off about books and scores and all the hoopla.
I hunt for good shots at mature whitetails and when that all comes together I'm happy. Heck, I'm happy just to be hunting for that shot. I've been blessed with the opportunity to take a few "good ones" but have no idea what they score.
Trap
I've got one on my wall, but unfortunately I didn't shoot it... I found it dead on the family farm in Kansas while training a bird dog. He scored around 208 and change back in 1987. Great motivation though...
never took one with a bow yet but would never have one scored again. took a B&C with rifle and 2 others that were in the 140-150 class. not in to the scoring system anymore. can't wait to take the first tropy with bow!
I've never understood why some people frown upon wanting to shoot a p&y or b&c animal, or find it degrading or disrespectful to score an animal. Not that there's anything wrong with not wanting to score a deer or caring about how big an animal is, but to knock down trophy hunting seems strange to me. The original poster asked how many p&y animals we have shot, not what we classify as a "trophy" or what we personally think about scoring systems.
1 and right on Tyler. I get a kick out of the high and mighty. My questions is "Why wouldn't you want to support a group who has done so much for the sport we love"?
Amen brother. The Pope & Young club trys to advance and protect bowhunting, not tear it down.
I've take'n several that qualified for "Y" ...one of these days I hope to put a "P &" in front of one.
:bigsmyl:
I dont see a thing wrong with measure'n or scoring. Just because it aint for you ..dont think you should degrade people for doin' it.
I will agree that any animal harvested "fair chase" is indeed a trophy.
A bunch is a good estimate. KS IA and north MO helps alot.Nothing yet this year I am after the most elusive deer that I've ever hunted. Been quite a dry spell going back almost a year. Kind of losing the drive that keeps me in a stand all day. Find myself rolling over in bed and snuggling with the wife instead of hitting the woods with my buddies. Not sure if it's medication, wife getting better or my buddies just getting uglier.
Amen Tyler :D We let the young ones go and shoot the mature deer. We don't own the land and we do hunt on public too.
I could care less what other people shoot size wise. I like to see all of them, big, small, typical non-typical, and does too.
I can score deer and I do score mine and many other peoples deer too. I have not entered any of mine in the books P/Y or B/C and I probably will not but thats cool if you do. Injoy the hunt folks and be happy for everybody else when the do score, were all in this togather. :archer:
Tracy
LOL, relax folks, I dont think anyone was tearing down the P&Y club.
I sure wasnt intending to bash anyone for their choice to score and enter a deer and if you took it that way, my sincere appologies.
Respectfully submitted, High and Mighty
;)
130, 137, 154.
Now I dont hardly shoot anything any more. Always asking myself maybe something behind this doe. And when a buck walks by well its not quite big enough. But I enjoy my hunts, and that's all that matters.
I've only shot one buck that would be considered good for around here, and he was my first deer, ever, and not even close to any book. All the scoring and stuff is nice, but I decide if it's a trophy. That being said I'm happy with my first trad deer I took in the early season, a nice fat doe! Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing anybody for scoring thier bucks, and if I shot a big one, I'd be the first guy to put up pics and stuff, but the again, I'd do that with a six point.
None in the book for me. I have one that would make it, if I entered him and another taken with a compound but he hasn't been entered either. Might have another one this year if I can connect on him before he moves off and disappears after the rut.
I have 0 in the book and it will prob stay that way, But if i do ever get one I think i would have it scored. I think it's unlikely, we just really dont have deer around here that would make it into books
I'm ashamed...I only have two p&Y size does..... :D
Nada.
Got 4 of em that score 124 and 7/8's though.
zero. I don't score them.
One for me...always looking for number two. :archer:
As more and more states realize the benefits to managing for quality, I belive the opportunities for such bucks will increase. Many of you guys are no doubt very good deer hunters, but simply do not have the opportunity to hunt P&Y class bucks. I see it all the time. A guy comes from Virginia, or PA here to Illinois and shoots his first P&Y buck during their first week. Did that guy all of a sudden become a better deer hunter? NO. He simply had access to a better area thats all.
Jon, that was very well said my friend...I absolutely agree 100%!
I have three that would make it....all out of state, I live in eastern NY (MO., Conn., and MT.)
My two biggest east coast deer are from Conn.....and I've hunted there a maybe 1/2% as much as I've hunted in NY over the years.
Ya gotta hunt where the big ones live!

Agree fully, and very well said, Jon. I live and hunt in FL...no P&Y's to be had here. I also hunt my home state of PA. These are mountain deer and just don't get that big...antler restrictions are helping, however. :)
All mine are P&Y - Poke em Young :)
Jon said it best , I have bowhunted 34 years and can count the P&Y Bucks on one hand that I have ever saw.
Jack
I only entered the first one I killed. I don't remember what it scored and couldn't find the certificate if my life depended on it. I've shot a few more since then that would have made P&Y, but didn't enter them because it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. That's not to say it's right or wrong though, but I've already scratched that itch once and it hasn't come back.
Yes, it's fun to shoot something with a large rack, but sometimes I think "deer hunting" would be much better in this state if the highest scoring set of antlers roaming the woods was about 100 inches or less. Trophy deer herds fall under the category of "be careful what you wish for." I'd trade every rack in my house over 125" to go back to the time when access in this state required a knock on a door, and handshake, maybe some chores, and a promise of respect, instead of a checkbook, a bidding war, a legal document.
Maybe that's why I hunt in Wisconsin more than Illinois.

im to young to remember those days, but i dream about em. asked a farmer last year if i could hunt his land, he said no, i rent it out to a couple of clubs, and get thousand$ a year for it.
I hear ya, Jason.
100 inches- thats a dang nice deer for my neck of the woods.
0 , but those does taste good. I saw my first P&Y this season at about fifty yards: exciting. Most deer don't make it past forkhorns where I hunt. Oklahoma is still working on a better management system but every year seems to be better than the last. Jon hit the nail on the head. I'll be out tomarrow and the wind is supposed to be perfect for that same stand so maybe I'll have an encounter, who knows?
Those numbers are used to quanitify a hunter, not a deer, and it has put a bad taste in the stew. High-fiving, immature idiots permeate the so-called hunting shows on television and do more harm than good to the real sport of archery and hunting. I don't measure antlers....I measure the experience.
IMO,the reason hunting is called a sport. You keep score.0 that I know of.Got one that I've been told I should score.
I have two,a 164 10pt,and a 130 9pt. I truly love to match witts with mature whitetail bucks. But I've found mature does at times harder to fool. I love hunting all deer, the hunt with traditional gear is what really,I think, puts the icing on the cake.I'm thankful God created the hunter spirit in me.Bowtough.
