Title: Winter Baggyness Fix?
Post by: Beepy on November 19, 2008, 11:39:00 PM
So, I have been trying to shot my bow with my sweatshirt that I will be wearing during late season (starts tomorrow!).  The string always catches my shirt on the chest/shoulder area of my bow arm.  I have twisted up my shirt sleeve and tried tightening everything up.... but still!!!  My groups STINK!  HELP!

About all you can do is try to open up your stance a bit.  That is, don't stand totally sideways to the target, rather experiment with standing say 45 degrees to it.  At some point, you should clear your clothing but it may feel kinda funny at first and it will also shorten your draw.  The upside is, you'll pretty much be able to shoot wearing anything and you won't need an armguard either.

I wouldn't change my stance at this point of the season...why start all over again...

1.I would suggest wearing something else if possible.

2.If you have to wear it,you can wear an archery chest protector.

3.If hunting from a treestand, I find that my shoulder straps on my harness helps keep my clothing close to my chest.

4.My Crooked Horn bino system helps with this too.

Just a few things off the top of my head.....

Alright, you can laugh at this if you want.

How 'bout suspenders?

arm guard to keep your sleeve tight, and wear bibs overalls with all your top stuff tucked in. Or yes, suspenders work too.

I highly recommend Sitka Gear for decreasing the bulk of your hunting clothing. Finally, I'm warm AND I can shoot accurately at the same time. Take a look at it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Get a pair of your wife's nylons and cut the bottom off, put over your sleeve and go hunting.  leopard pattern might be nice but no fishnet stupp it's too girly.

They actually sell these socks now with the "toes" cut off they call armguards that cover the arm past the elbow. I find that that works better than just a forearm covering armguard. (I find my girlfriend's nylons too distracting).    :bigsmyl:   I put my harness on last and that seems to tighten it up enough. They do sell these neoprene like vests that could go on last as well. Very warm and leaves your arms still thin. A heat pack at the base of your spine does wonders as well to reduce the clothing needs so you don't have to look like the Michelin Man.

I made myself a garter for my bow arm to help keep the sleeve of my upper arm out of the way. So far it has worked well but I haven't had to wear cloths that were real bulky. I used some 1" wide elastic banding for the garter. My arm guard keeps the lower arm clear from the string.     Pat

I keep a few rubberbands around my quiver, they come in handy around the upper arm to keep things unde control in a pinch.

I also like the short version of the sock arm guard and just slide it up, works well.

Rob,

I needed that this morning!  The camo isn't very good, though.

It might be a state of mind but I can think of something to measure it with. And so will everyone else if you're standing outside naked.

I use a dress sock with toes cut off. It's tight fitting and high quality stitching that won't tear. Found it in a camo grey/brown sorta color to boot.

In Rob's case it's pretty awful.  All that pasty white skin....
